How will PvP work in the game? Is it an open system? The answer is half yes and half no.

Sigh... and there goes my interest with ArchAge...

I will NEVER play a MMO with open PVP, corpse looting and CERTAINLY not one where I am judged by other players. NOT IF HELL FREEZES OVER!

A trial and jail system eh? I can already see people abusing that simply out of spite. As the game isn't released yet, there is still a chance for things to change. So I'll simply keep an eye out.

Time for me to move on. I had high hopes for this game since I really like sandbox MMO's.

Hmm, unlikely. K-Tera is actually not doing well while K-Aion on the other hand is going strong. How it will do in NA is debatable.

I can't see the trial and jail system working. If anything that kind of mechanic is going to lead to more greifing and abuse than comes with standard pking in sandbox games.

LOL you people assume to much in a game you never played... its an indie not an AAA where they follow a scipt they do what you want a and gamers want, being in game design I had an idea like this for a wild west game, it will work if you do it right and have anti griefing where certain choices can't be picked.

Example, someone killed someone one time, death, wrong, if it was someone killing , and killing, aka griefing then you get an option to say death. But if it then then get jail, for ex amount of time , or and some big fees, even have it where your friends /guild can get you out by raiding that town. Etc.

So stop assuming things , gamers today have no pataince and expect the world... Go to school and you would understand what it takes to make these games, and what you can do.. I did.. I know now.. But I never whined like alot of people do .

Pardon? I'm not sure why I am even bothering to respond to your post quite frankly but for the sake of argument here goes....

The only thing I am assuming (and this is coming from someone heavily biased towards ffa pvp) is that people will work a system given a chance. Any system which allows other players to decide the fate of others via some form of 'trial' is going to be prone to griefing.

Until we get clearer details it is wise to debate the point, given the fact it has been posted here for that very reason. If you do not like the fact that people are putting out opinions, why the hell are you here? Or do you take umbrage at the fact that I didn't immediately jump to the high heavens and proclaim the second coming over such a notion because "you had this idea for use in a wild west mmo"?

ArcheAge may well get it spot on and it is an interesting take on the idea, but as it stands it is right to pose the question that yes, such a system could well be prone to excessive amounts of abuse.

At this moment in time and with just the very idea put out there with no details, the system looks like it could be prone to griefing and potentially even worse than standard ffa to me. Sorry that get's your knickers in a twist.

I agree

I meant it as similar gameplay

Tera is quite similar to Aion, probably it is a bit more PVP focused than Aion, but they are not that different

Aion is tab-target auto-track tank and spank. Tera is aim and dodge. Huge difference.

I dont know why they say its for Western market...i mean watch the beta videos and you will see the game is very korean in style.

Game sound great but i cant stand the Korean style.

Playing: EVE online and TL2
Waiting for: WoD and PoE
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO

This game has began to perk my curiosity but the fact it is a korean game and only tested by korean testers will most likely mean it will be a grindfest when its all said and done..

I am watching it now and glad to have added it to my tiny list of only 3 games that may be worth my time..

Playing GW2..

Looks awesome

But, I hate being penalized for PvP. "For Me" I didn't care for it in Lineage 2 either.

In war there is no PK and Carebear, everyone is a solider.

Definitely a deal breaker, unless they refine the system.

A broad statement like that is full of holes. Ask anyone who has been in war and there are always nuetral and even beneficant parties with only the interest to help. The trial system is pretty interesting to say the least. Although in function it really depends on some fantastic community individuals. Ive seen it work on free Uo shards. We'll see how it all pans out. I for one am excited to see how the character models are fixed up. With the crytek engine there using the models could be amazing!

That could be a deal breaker for me aswell, what kind of an MMO wouldn't want to have some form of PVP???

Jake Song:

I regret to say this to the gamers outside Korea, but ArcheAge Closed Beta Tests are designed for Koreans only. Schedule for the ArcheAge's 4th closed beta test is not fixed yet. When we announce the schedule for the test, if you are Korean and live in Korea, you can apply as a tester through ArcheAge website and wait for the raffle result.

Hmm, I don't know if an average Korean knows what an average American wants. Even if Jake Song is "worldly" , I still have reservations about letting Korea  decide the progress of a potentially epic MMO.  I mean how can a Korean beta tester's feedback be the same as an American beta tester's feedback?

This is exactly my thought as well.  I think Jake Song is an awesome game designer.  Lineage is still my favorite MMO and the best PvP I've had in a game, but I can't see how they can globalize a game with only localized feedback.  I don't mind Korean style games, but if they're really trying to 'globalize' then they should get other feedback before they get too far along the development timeline.

I'm also not sure if I want to play on a PvP server anymore.  Early MMO pvp was entirely different from the idiotic mindless ffa deathmatch crap that western pvp holds up on a pedestal.  I just don't see how quality pvp can happen in the current mmo pvp environment.

The game does have some intriguing features.  I'll keep an eye on it.

I like the trial system and I think it will work well enough to curb a lot fo the short attention span griefers. Point being that whether you are found guilty or not, the price for killing with reckless abandon is a pretty hefty timesink regardless of the outcome. I think that will cause some people to think twice knowing if they gank for the hell of it, theyre gonna have to sit and deliberate for who knows how long.

The koreans can keep their games as far as I am concerned.

What irks me, is what I see as arrogance and pride. They make a game for Korea and they dont care how it plays for anyone else.

Lineage 2 no thank you.

AION no thank you.

I kind of agree with you on the FFA PvP comment. Personally, I like the concept of FFA PvP but the execution always seems to fall short. I'd like to see more games go with the Eve-online system of progressive safe zones. A game where you can kill anyone, anywhere, anytime but in some areas the penalties for doing so will be so steep that it's just not worth it for most people. That's also why I'd like to see MMOs move away from level/skilled based character progression (not necessarily completely removed) and rely more on equipment to define character's rolls. It'd be more of a psychological thing, but after playing Red Dead Redemption and Red Faction: Guerilla I think it could work.
