The original Guild Wars, Nightfall and Factions are collected into a nifty bundle at Steam and are on sale today only for $14.99 as part of Steam's Summer Camp promotion running from now through July 10th. As a bonus, Eye of the North is also half off and can be had for $9.99. What a great way to prepare for Guild Wars 2 by taking the original game's "refresher course"! Find out more on the Guild Wars Steam promotion page.

Worth it for three big reasons. 1) GW1 is a very entertaining and well-made game. 2) GW2 is on the horizon, so it will allow you to work towards earning perks and rewards for that because of legacy account linking and stuff through the hall of monuments. 3) That is a great price, 5$ per game, and combined the three (Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall) offer over 100 hours of gameplay.
The one downside is that you need to buy Eye of the North to do the GW2 achievements and such, because the hall of monuments is only accessible through that expansion.
In short? Yes, totally worth it. Buy it and enjoy! :) |

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

Well this is a day late. It went on sale yesterday, and ended at 1pm EST today. |

People who were around these boards in 04, will remember these comments. Everyone believed GW would be closed within the first months and that it was a scam. Everyone said it was not possible and they would sell out.
It's crazy that here we are 6 years later, and people still spew out the same nonsense. Maybe GW2 is all hype and bull like some believe, but NOBODY can question what ArenaNet has done with Guild Wars 1. They more than kept their word. I fully support the company, and I sincerely hope that they will keep their integrity for GW2.
It's not that they didn't change direction, dropped the ball a few times or were not able to meet certain promises/deadlines(everyone makes mistakes/miscalculations and things change in practice). It's that they just continued to show commitment and effort. I only know one other gaming company that do as much for their fans - And that is Valve! |

I snagged the three-pack yesterday when it was on sale because I needed an MMO I could play casually now that I work two jobs. I love EQ2 to death, but... I don't have time to get past level 55 now, since it seems like the levelling curve just took a sharp upward spike. Is levelling to 20 faster in a certain version (prophecies, nightfall, factions), or are they all pretty much the same? |

Factions is the fastest iirc |

Ignorant post from someone who obviously has not played the game at all or long enough to know that these ARE NOT pay to win items. Everyone has the ability to have everyone of these skills if they put in the effort to unlock them themselves through playing the game without paying a cent. They are also great for second accounts if you want to be lazy and not have to unlock them all over again by repeating the process a second time. Take for example my situation. I unlocked everything that is listed here myself without spending a dime playing Guild Wars at my own pace over a certain period of time. This DOES NOT give me any unfair advantage in PvP whatsoever. I am at the same level as anyone who may have been lazy and purchased the unlock packs, and at the same time, if I didn't have everything unlocked, then I would focus on playing one role only ...say warrior...to build up my experience and continue to unlock more skills so that I could play other roles...say elementalist, or ranger, or assassin...etc. {mod edit} |

Factions is fastest, Nightfall has the best balance between fun and speed of progression. |

Those are for the people that want to jump into PvP right away and create a level 20 PvP character. They can NOT use that PvP character in PvE. Your post is irrelevant. |
