Hello guys I am building a computer for the first time and these are the parts i chose. Check it out

http://www.tigerdirect.com/cgi-bin/ShoppingCart.asp

That price i have is practically my budget and I want suggestions if that's the best I can do.

The parts i want the same are I want 6870 graphics card, atleast 500 gigs of 7200 rpm hard drive(no sdd) , I need a sound card, and a phenom 2 (3.2) I want any suggestions to get myself a better bang for the buck also it only has to be in tigerdirect ( because i dont want to pay taxes :)

Also I have a question about the motherboard. I see tons of am3 motherboards that vary in price from 80 to like 180. I chose a 130$ one to be safe but i wasn't sure of it. My question is can i get a 80 dollar am3 motherboard and still get the same speed as the more expensive ones? Is the chipset that important? I'm not going to go sli or overcloaking. Thanks in advance.

A shopping cart link only goes to the shopping card of the local computer.  That is, no one can see what you've picked unless logged in as you.

To answer your specific questions, these days there's probably not much reason to spend more than $100 on an AM3 motherboard. Getting a Crosshair IV is nice if you plan on doing heavy overclocking, and need two full speed PCIE 16x slots, and even then it might be overkill, but unless that's your case there's no need to go overboard.

It's also unlikely that you need a sound card inless you intend to use an amplified jack to power high end headphones, or have some other special requirement that integrated sound won't satisfy. For simple sound quality, integrated sound is more than good enough.

It would, however, help to see what you're actually ordering.

The motherboard is built for running two AMD video cards in CrossFire.  For one card, skip the extra PCI Express lanes, save some money, and get one based on an AMD 870 or 970 chipset instead.

-----

A WD Caviar Green is fine for bulk storage, but you don't want to run real programs off of that.  If an SSD doesn't fit your budget, then try a WD Caviar Black.  Yes, it's more expensive for the same capacity.  But it's much faster, and that's worth the modest price premium.

-----

The power supply you've picked is garbage.  This one will get the job done for you:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=125448&CatId=4294

If you want something of higher wattage to allow room for future upgrades, then this one will work:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=125450&CatId=4294

-----

$60 is way overpriced for 4 GB of system memory.  If you're just looking at clock speeds and latency timings, then you're doing it wrong.  That's also overvolted, so you're basically paying extra for a factory overclock that you could have done yourself for free.

You could get 4 GB of system memory much cheaper:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4779409&CatId=3433

Or you could pay somewhat more and get 8 GB:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7170306&CatId=3473

-----

From your post, it looks like you're not getting a processor, optical drive, or OS license at all.  Nor peripherals, though you might just plan on keeping old peripherals.

The motherboard you picked will work just fine.  You might want to consider getting a Socket AM3+ motherboard instead, like this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=667649&CatId=7245

For the processor you've picked, that won't matter.  But a couple years from now, if you decide that your computer would be great if only the processor were better, then it's more likely that you'll be able to upgrade just the processor and nothing else in a Socket AM3+ motherboard than a Socket AM3 one, though that largely depends on how long Asus and MSI decide to keep offering BIOS updates.

I'm not saying that you definitely should switch the motherboard, but it's something to consider.

-----

That's a nice power supply, but it's a waste of money.  You're putting together a system that will likely never pull 300 W from the power supply.  Even the 650 W power supply that I linked above is overkill for that, and there's no sense in getting a higher wattage still.

Even if you do want to spend a fortune on a power supply (which I wouldn't necessarily be against), the thing to do is go super high end on quality, at a wattage still suitable to your system.  I don't see anything on Tiger Direct suitable for that purpose, so I'll link one from New Egg instead, just to throw it out there:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151098

I'm not saying that you should get this power supply.  I'm saying that it's a far more sensible way to pay more for a power supply than merely going with a higher wattage that you won't use.  Too much wattage in a power supply is actually a bad thing, as it's a waste of energy because power supplies aren't very efficient at 10% load.

-----

It looks like you're spending quite a bit on peripherals.  Don't think that you need a "gaming" keyboard and a "gaming" mouse, as the "gaming" label doesn't actually mean anything other than that the company's marketing department thought it should be called that.  If you'll use some of the peculiar features that they'll offer and most keyboards and mice don't, then go ahead.  But if all you want is for the normal keyboard keys and the mouse pointer and buttons to work right, then you can get something just as good for much cheaper.

You're also getting both speakers and a headset.  Maybe that makes sense if you're going to wear the headset sometimes while gaming but not others.  But if that isn't your plan, then it's redundant.

There's no sense in getting a discrete sound card unless you're quite an audiophile, in which case, you should be spending a whole lot more than $33 on speakers.  The integrated sound that comes with the motherboard is good enough for nearly everyone, so you should probably at least try that before picking up a discrete sound card.  Personally, I have integrated sound, a $15 or so pair of speakers that works great for my purposes, and no headset at all.  But I'm not at all an audiophile.

I switched the motherboarrd to what you suggested to am3+ because why not. It's the same price and it's more future proof and basically the same thing. Thanks on that one. I also lowered the power supply to 650 on the one you suggested way before. Does everything else seem okay? I'm ready to order it but I want to make sure everything is alright. If you say yes i'll be ordering it on your mark. :)

It's a good thing Quizzical doesn't have a really evil sense of humor.  He could direct a few people into buying The Worst Computer Ever before people caught on. XD

 LOL ^^ This

I am sure there are more than few people here that owe Quiz, Cata and Rid some well-earned props. Sometimes forums are not a PVP playground.

Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.

Looking forward to TSW, WoD and Copernicus.
Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS

well i was looking around the forums for a while and he seems to know what he is talking about at the same time being aware of budgets and other concerns people might have. Since there are so many parts to choose from when buying a computer its really helpful if someone like him just pin points what is good for what reason. But it would be funny like u said if what i order turns out to be complete shit hahaha.

If that's what you want and it fits your budget, then go ahead and get it.  It looks like you want to go ahead and get the peripherals you've picked, which isn't what I'd personally do, but your preferences can easily be different from mine.  I have a KVM switch, for example, but it's not something that I'd recommend to most people.

Is a Phenom II X6 1100T faster for gaming purposes than a Phenom II X4 955?  Yeah, a little.  $74 worth of faster, which is the price difference they charge (which is really just passing on what AMD charges)?  No.  If that's your budget, then you should be looking at a Core i5 2500, or 2500K if you want to overclock it.

The power supply is garbage.  The cheapest upgrade that they offer that is actually good is the Corsair TX750 V2.  That's a nice power supply, but it's absurdly overkill for a Radeon HD 6850.  On that build, you should be looking at a high quality power supply rated around 500 W, not 750 W.  But Cyber Power PC doesn't offer that, which is a disservice to their customers.  That's an extra $83 right there.  Well, I guess the Cooler Master Silent Pro is all right, but that's only $5 cheaper than the Corsair TX V2.
