Why do people think that SWG was going to be competition for SWTOR? Does anyone really think that Lucas Art or Bioware were living in fear of competing with SWG? As if it was somehow going to threaten the success of the old republic or steal players away?
Lucas Arts most certainly did not close this game down and least of all they wouldn't do it for fear of SWG being a competitor. It is doubtful that SWG had more than 5,000 or so subscribers.
An online petition is going to fall on deaf ears. SWG requires a license and that license costs money. SWG has been dieing for far more years than it was succeeding. I doubt SOE could afford to keep running the game, afford to invest in redesigning the game for a fourth time to have a F2P model or even understands how to successfully run a F2P game.
SOE and Lucas Arts only listen to one thing and that is money. If you really want to be heard then perhaps find a way that speaks the language they can understand. |

An online petition isnt worth a crap. Earth and Beyond had one for years since 2004! These big companies will not listen. It is useless. Like kicking a you know what. |

Originally posted by Cherpie Jesus this is so sad. Did you think it was going to just go on forever? SOE gave you 6 months of warning. Be thankful for that much. I love how people play a game so much they lose touch with reality. You NEVER had a say in this games future. You would think the NGE would have taught everyone that lesson. To SOE and LA you are nothing more than a pay check..and a small one at that. They know you will pay for TOR and even if you and every SWG player decides not to it really is not going to matter all that much. SWG did not have enough people playing to fill the servers they had..not even close. This is not about being an elitist .. it is about being realistic.

We old schools vets tried to petition NGE (as you can see it didn't work and there was a mass Exodus of us that left). However, Its worth a shot to the OP to fight for the game you love to play, but your going to get the same end results as we did. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but in the words of Han Solo, "Goodluck, your going to need it". |

The real SWG died November 15, 2005. Even after all the petitioning we did back then, it didn't do any good. Like others have been saying if us 200k out of the estimated 250k didn't get through to them (they called us the minority...lol), there's no way the remains can reach. I guess for those who laughed at us for our game getting taken away get a little karma for their behavior and I don't feel sorry for them, though I do feel sorry for the new players who little idea of what had occurred in the history of the game. Just let it go, it's time this zombie got put out of misery. I and many of my old SWG buddies have been planning on playing TOR for a long time, maybe you guys can join us in our future new home. Cheers to all those who played and loved the game Note to Cherpie: Calling people idiots or morons is not a good way to win people to your side of an issue. |

Unless you can get a couple of million signatures and guarantee that those people will re-subscribe it's a complete waste of time. The game is a mess and it has been for over half a decade, theres no chance SOE are going to get players back. |

although being right allll of the time has its obvious advantages, it's still painful to watch the slower less observant people come to the same conclusion years later after much grief and stress.
Ohh and fyi post CU, SWG-Emu had the pre-CU version running and it was awesome - sorry you all missed out. |

You might want to pop over to Massively and re-read the interview with Smed. Especially the bit where they ask if there is anything players can do to stop this, and he replies "No." That should of been a fairly big indicator to you that a petition will not change the fact that Lucas has dumped the contract and is moving on. Can I ask... What would be the best outcome from this? They leave the game up and charge you $15 a month, never again developing it? |

ROFLMAO
You are looking from loyalty from the people that brought us the NGE, that has to be the most ironic thing I have seen here about SWG. I would like to be one of the first to tell the current players to get over it with a smile on my face.
Ok now to the real meat of it all. I would sign your petition because I know how bad it is as a SWG vet and a so-called forum terrorist to have the game you loved to play yanked out from under you. At lest you have a warning on it and perhaps now some of you all will start walking a little in the shoes of those that have been denigrated for not wanting or appreciating and fighting against the NGE and being told to get over it and let it go and understand the vets just a little. Our petition and threat of a lawsuit at least got us a refund

I think it's really cute, all the negative things people are saying about me, and this petition, simply because I posted a link. It's really depressing to see what has been done to you people because of a game. What I really like is the people calling me an NGE fanboi and how I'm crying. So let's get one thing straight. I started the game when they plugged that thing in. So all the Pre CU bugginess, credit duping, forum troll wars, and everything else that was going on back there, I've been through it. I've been through it now and have taken every single twist and turn the game has taken the last eight years. I, like the vast majority of you, was not pleased about the NGE and the changes made to the game. I was not happy with having to combine into one of nine "iconic" professions. I wasn't happy with the reduced complexity of the game. And while the game was a shadow of it's former self, it still clearly had that sandbox factor that people enjoyed, albeit in reduced form. Why did I stay? I'll tell you why I stayed. Not out of some loyalty to SOE, cause believe me I've criticized them plenty. It was because I am that much of a Star Wars fan, and my friends that chose to play into the NGE. Do I miss the old days of SWG? I certainly do. Not a day goes by I miss my smuggler/rifleman. But being bitter about the game, and especially being bitter to those that have kept playing it has not, and will not continue to get you no where. Sitting here and running down people that want to sign that petition really just goes to show what kind of human beings you really are. But, it takes all kinds to make the world go around I guess. As much as people have complained over the years about bringing back Pre NGE and Pre CU, it didn't get you what you wanted. Now you turn that vitriol on those that don't want the game to close? We get it. You hate the NGE. And that's fine, I can respect that. As I said before, I myself didn't care for it too much either. But I was able to get past that cause I wanted to play in a Star Wars universe and I was willing to sacrifice I guess. Doesn't make me a bad person, and doesn't make anyone else a bad person either. So those of you running off at the keyboard about how people who want to save this game are trash and such, and take pleasure in the fact that people are actually sad about the end of this game, I really feel for you, and feel for your lack of emotion, and your lack of conscience. Am I crying over this? Hardly. I am sad that a game I've spent most of the last eight years in is coming to an end. And there is nothing wrong with being sad. Cause that's simply being human. Which judging by some of your responses in this thread, is a lot more than many of you could ever hope to be. |

Slightly off-topic, but I will use this thread to say:
I'm sorry to all you current players on losing your game. I truly am. I know exactly how painful that can be. Good luck to you all in finding a new passtime to replace SWG. |

Not to rehash every post - but yeah, SWG died on November 15th 2005. Ever since then they have been keeping it alive with life support - its now time to let SWG go and pull the plug. Clearly SWG is brain dead and would not be able to return to the glorious state it was in prior to winter 2005. Its been long over due for us disgruntled vets to move on - now we can. Help me GW2, you're my only hope... |

Only difference, THIS time YOU are the one getting the short stick. Get over it. |
