I have mixed feeling on Origin (or Steam or Direct2Drive for that matter). I have always prefered to have copies of my software where I can get to them....on CD's/DVD's. However, after amassing some 1000 titles, I am beginning to see some ease of use. However, I also know two things. First, my access to my games can be interrupted if the online service is off-line. And, that (in the case with EA) my software can become unusable after approximately two years (see XBOX 360 EA Sports games). Now that last one is more a "fear" then something I have experienced, but EA has said that they will no longer maintain your ownership of digital purchased past 2 years. That in and of itself is scary if you are discussing digital download purchases. There is another issue I have with EA's Origin. Seems EA has attempted this before not just once but serveral times. Of course there is (was?) the EA Store but there was also multiple versions and names such as "EA Downloader" and "EA Download Mangager" and others. I am not comfortable with so many changes...it just feels like they don't have their act together. Let's party like it is 1863! |

I have no problems with Origin. I just hope that if I decide to buy it that they let players download the game prior to launch because it will be a mess on launch day. |

No, you won't.
For the other games? don't know but it's not the case in ToR. You don't even need it installed to play it. It's just there to buy it to get the software onto your computer. |

I am going to do everything I can to avoid installing EA's crap. If the game I want to buy is not on steam, then I will probably buy the game retail, or for my PS3. I have given my soul to steam/valve I can not give it again to EA, I am short on Horcruxes |

Originally posted by SaintViktor I completely agree here with both sentiments. I am actually thinking of waiting a few days after launch to even start playing for this reason alone. "If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?" |

As I've said before, I rarely buy anything outside of Steam and if I do so it's usually a hardcopy so if Swtor is trully available only through Origin then I'll buy it in retail. Something else I would like to know is if EA is planning to include non-EA games in Origin in the future. |

I wonder if Origin will allow preloading? If that happens then I'm all the more enticed to use Origin. If not, I could go for a boxed copy because it would be cheaper with trade in credit. |

As i won't be getting origin.. or allowing an instance of it on my computer.. it really doesnt matter.. so if i do end up getting the game (doubtful) it would only be if it could run without interfacing with origin.. but that would include any future games.. not just SW:TOR - and yes.. Games for Windows Live, and Windows Live.. is another varient i totally abhor... i tolerate Steam (manual startup only. offline mode by default - firewall unlock to connect - paranoid.. hell yes) but if the game is Origin only.. well sayonara that one.. useful only as an addition to my somewhat ancient Aol Disc collection of amusing drinks coasters.. |

I understood it as, Origin is essentially just a store app, not like steam at all. It won't be required to play any games, but if anything, it may be required to download certain games, like the EA download manager. The only difference is, they would likely want it to run in the background and maybe pop up an ad or two, but its likely after you download the game, you can just close out and you won't have to keep it open like Steam.
Or, you could buy the box and never download origin. |

Originally posted by maskedweasel I have Origin running on one of my machines. It is essentially EA Download manager with a better store front solution and more robust. I think you are right it saying you could grab the app, DL SWTOR, then delete the app and never use it again if you did not want too. if they intend to make it more like Steam (I use steam often and have no issue with it either) then it is not apparent at this stage of the product. |

Pretty much the same as the old EA downloader. Man you guys are so skeptical. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

Lets think ; possibly the best MMO that has been developen in the past 10 years if not the best and am I going to miss out on all the fantastic content .... WAIT for it because of where it is downloaded. Nah.... life is too short......I will be seeing anyone who is a Bioware Fan/ A star Wars Fan or just general all around MMO fans in game digital download all the way. Nice of EA to provide a nice new slick service ; unlike STEAM that is a little intrusive and annoying. About time someone provided a decent service. ________________________________________________________ |

Yes. If it is only available on toast I would buy it to. |

If it were the only option, yes I would be stupid not to. Even though it really isn't the only option (retail stores), I've been waiting 6 years now and I'd be dumb not to grab it any way I could. |
