Out of all these mini-series, my favorite was the Tudors. Watched all four seasons at least twice. I bought the DvD's, it was so good. Next in line is Spartacus, Band of Brothers then The Pacific. I never got into Camelot, didnt like the King Arthur they picked. The Borgias is great, but if you miss one or two, you are lost. Game of Thrones is interesting and I am enjoying it, but cant put my finger on if it really happened or is it pure fantasy? I am not a history buff or lore buff.
Watch "Nurse Jackie" sometime. She is a pill popping hoot of a woman. |

I am a massive George RR Martin fan, and I love the books. So far I have not had a chance to see any of the series, as I stay in Scotland and it is on a SKY channel which I don't have. Glad to hear that the general concensus is a thumbs up. I was dreading that it would not do the books justice, mind you HBO do make some great dramas. One question though - has Ser Gregor Clegane (the mountain that rides) been featured in the series yet? He is my favourite character of the books, and I cannot imagine who they would cast as him. In fact, one of the reasons why I thought no production company would touch this is (spoiler alert) how Martin has the unorthodox way of killing off his protagonists. Especially in book 3 when must off the 'good guys' are massacred. Do you think that HBO will stick to the script, as I imagine there will be a lot of bemused viewers when that particular event occurs? |

news of the day: ratings rose again for the latest episode to a new season high. :) Yes, Gregor has been in a couple episodes so far - had some pretty sweet tournament scenes. The adaptation has been extremely close to the books. I think everyone should be watching this series. You don't want to miss out |

Thanks Clob. I am thinking of going out and buying the season box set when it gets released. Also cannot wait for July 12th when book 5 will FINALLY see print. I was dismayed by the apparent death of Ser Gregor when he was poisoned in that duel. I even said so to Martin himself when he visited Glasgow. However, in book 4 there are several comments about Cersei having a 'champion' and I have a hopeful suspicion that it might be some zombiefied or rejuvenated version of Ser Gregor, who in my humble opinion is one of the most destructive and evil characters in fantasy fiction. |

The series has got better as it goes along,it's worth the watch at the very least. Nothing can be like the books but as i have said before, the books are a good read but slightly overrated . Their are better fantasy Authors IMO. http://realhistoryww.com/world_history/ancient/Misc/Jesus/Jesus.htm |

Originally posted by ArcheAge To be honest, it was George RR Martin that restored my faith in the sci-fantasy genre. To think that the first, three books of the series sat on my shelf gathering dust for over a year, before I finally got around to reading them - tsk! Only fantasy author I have found to trump him has been Tolkien, who I'll always have a soft spot for. However I have heard that Steven Erickson is a similiar type author and is meant to be very good as well. Will have to check him out for myself. |

Originally posted by outfctrl It's pure fantasy, but it has a more realistic footing than say LotR. It's not even remotely historically accurate and completely made up. So far anyway, there was some kind of living dead monster in the latest episode. We really don't know what that's about yet. (PLEASE DON'T SPOIL IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOKS!) |

Good news is they already renewed it for a second season..that should cover book 2. I think(hope) its a good bet that the series will continue until it no longer has written material to follow...iow 5 seasons(assuming the 5th book does come out finally this year lol) |

Originally posted by ScrimMaltese well so far (apart from "kind of living dead monster") its pure fantasy, but acurate technologically. you won't find magic or sorcery, aliens or anything that would not be possible on earth in the 1200-1300 hell even the weapons have their weights. Ned Stark does unsheaths ICE, (a great sword 2/3 of his size) with 2 hands from his son that has to carry it with 2 hands and weilds it like a sword made of metal 2/3 of his size, thats a heavy son of a bitch. the costumes are also era apropriate and region apropriate...the north will be wearing fur on top of boiled leather and in the south where its hot there will be 1/2 naked women but its not historically acurate or anything, like scrimMaltese said, its a completely made up world and storyline |

I watched a few episodes, but honestly I was put off by the amount of sex and violence that seemed to be there just for the sake of it. Even worse is the very slow character and story build-up, and what little of the story that was actually presented seemed to be a rip-off of the Elric of Melnibone book series that I didn't like either for the same reasons. And when I say rip-off, I mean fucking rip-off. ___________________ http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/12/13/ |

Originally posted by Gazenthia Sometimes, I hate things everyone else loves, just for the sake of it too. It's fun. Everyone should try it. I love being Anti-Social like Gaz. There really isn't much violence in the series and there isn't much sex either. The Amount in the First Few Episodes, is quite low compared to even Network Television. You see a brother and sister, which is a huge part of the plot; and you see a dwarf who loves Whore Houses, which is a huge part of his character. And you see a couple people get killed, which isn't even all that gory, which is pretty much nothing compared to even Network TV. |

Originally posted by Gazenthia No, actually you just said you don't like how slow a Mini-Series is (which they all are, since they are single stories stretched out over several month's worth of episodes) and you didn't like the Sex & Violence, both of which are relatively low in this one. Especially in comparison to any of the other Premium Channel Series. My advice, stay away from Spartacus. Everyone else loves that Mini-Series too, and being Roman based on Galdiators, it has way more sex and violence than Game of Thrones could ever possibly write into their story line. Definitely not your cup of tea. |

I have already told you that I don't care about how Game of Thrones compares to anything else at all, networks or other miniseries. I don't give a god damn, man. I haven't even heard of "Spartacus" before. ___________________ http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/12/13/ |

Originally posted by ScrimMaltese Are you watching the same series i am? I agree there isnt that much violence, but i'm pretty sure that scene in the whore house with littlefinger lasted 5 minutes, not to mention dany's parts. The books are overrated imo and the series is good only because it's the first season (goes downhill after the second book) and because it follows the books closer then most tv series based off books, It really isn't as complex as people think, its production was just really well done. |

Originally posted by tvalentine Yeah, but that was a good 5 or 6 (or more) episodes into the series. Long after the first few. There were a couple more scenes with the Blonde guy (forget his name Khalese's brother), but they were later on as well. |

Star Wars Galaxies, R.I.P. NGE was your final death blow. |
It's interesting so far....
I was in shock about Ned Stark .....completely blind sided by that turn.
I am dying to see : 1: Will the Del'Thracky (spelling lol) Prince live from his infection due to this voodoo ritual we've seen started (and what of her warning not to enter the tent once it starts....) 2. What will become now of the "fair" jamie lannister now that his ability to be used as a bargoning chip is well...cut short. (a brilliant play by the starks to get him I might add) 3. What will become of the wall if these white walkers are starting to awake now? Clearly there is some question as to if the wall is high enough!!!! go figure that one out!
So far I'm loving it...despite the possibility of it losing interest....it hasn't lost mine yet.
favorite players to date: The imp. stands taller than all others right now. also the shy heavy guy at the wall that is a friend to John Snow (The bastard) |

Originally posted by tvalentine Hmm I would say the series gets even better after the first book, because you really start to see characters break their shell and become something. I'd have to say my only disappointment would be that the author sometimes concentrates far too much on intrigue, particularly regarding Cersei. It surprises me a lot that someone who has read all the books (so far) thinks the series is overrated. To each their own I guess. O_o o_O |

I think it is a fantastic show. There aren't many shows I can say that about but this one goes on my list. 1. Breaking Bad 2. The Wire 3. The Shield 4. Game of Thrones 5. The Sopranos 6. Boardwalk Empire 7. The Walking Dead 8. Sons of Anarchy 9. Dexter Great age for television far as I'm concerened long as you aren't relying on it to come from the regular broadcasting stations. Good thing too I suppose considering the exact opposite can be said for the amount of crap Hollywood is shoveling out movie wise. As great a time as it is for television it is about as bad as you can get from a theatrical standpoint. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |
