Having played APB originally I was happy to hear it was coming back and was looking forward to playing the new and improved APB...

Apart from the installation issues which took the best part of seven hours to fix (with advice from other players as the actual game support team does seem to post on the forums) I finally got into the game. Spent 10 minutes or so working on my avatar and then worked through the tutorial.

Well, the game is less laggy then it used to be and the driving does seem better, but the combat? Yeah...it's a joke. This is not a newbie friendly game. I've heard from a lot of people that I just need to persevere and learn all the weaponry? Fuck it, I can't be bothered.

Unless your idea of fun is going into the match system only to get facerolled by vastly better equipped/skilled/leveled opponents then I'd look else where. I've spent the better part of three days now trying to work my way through this and it's just bullshit. If it's one vs one, I lose. My opponent will commonly have three times my threat level and will know the level backwards.

There's no incentive to learn, not at the cost of dealing with a community that seems to have come from League of Legends.

Funny, because I jumped in with no combat experience with a basic character with my friend who was mid silver tier and was killing people who were higher than him.  Maybe you're just bad?

The match making system is still in progress, but like the above poster I jumped right in and had no problems.

This game still sounds like what would of been a decent single player game ( if AI was added) with a multiplayer element tacked on that they are trying to get a sub for or getting people to spend money on in some way.  Same reason the game failed in the first place.  Why do companies keep making multiplayer shooters and calling them MMO's?

Really? I detect bullshit. The matchmaking system is a joke, it really is.

If you looking for the match making system to put you into one of two, completely evenly matched and numberd teams, for a FPS style even-steven death match..yes the MM system sucks.

However, if you see the MM system as a quests, where at some point in your mission enemy players might be summoned to stop you, or harass you, then its not so bad.

Most of the time, im doing 1-2 stages out of 5 solo, pve style, then all of a sudden an APB is put out on me, sometimes 2-4 enemy players (much lower ranked than me) are sent out to stop me, usually they are in a location far enough away where i can get to the next objective and wait for them (big advantage there).  Some time the enemy stops me in my tracks and i lose, otehr times they are pretty bad and i can handle them solo.

Other time, i join into a 4vs2 as backup, its all over the place.  Hitting K (ready for next mission) is a crap shoot on what type of mission ill be getting, one i can win easily, or one thats going to end up in a loss for me.

This isnt a big deal for anyone who plays to have fun, however its a HUGE deal for egotistical kids who just want to showcase how good they are by stomping other people in an even match where they are "pub stomping" in their group, since sometimes your pub stomper group will be out matched.

Some people dont even notice that when they lose the "unfair" match ups, they often get more standing than if they would have won a fair match game, not alwasy but sometimes.

Yes some times the match making system pairs a training noob against me, im a terrible low silver ranked player. Sometimes ive been paired with a noob vs one gold ranked player, and destroyed

Of course having the option for a super fair match or the option for a hard/easy mission would be best, perhaps they fix this by "launch"

Either way theres still a lot of fun to be had in this game, even if you sometimes get missions where your going to lose (unless you are better than you are ranked for)

Oh and someone inform the OP that the starter weapon is competative enough where you can faceroll cash shop players...upon reading the OP post again, hes still going though the learning curve and needs to learn to play, that will solve most of his "getting facerolled" issues.

Everything I've heard points to it being pretty much the same game. Which is sort of surprising considering how bad the original did. I really liked the graphics, the character customization, and the music/editor. Everything else was garbage, in my opinion.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

APB's only positive is and always will be its customization. Everything else is horrible.

I played the previous incarnation and the new version and it felt almost completely the same, which is to say repetitive and short lived fun.

And the driving felt as crap as it did the first time around.

I got my ass handed to me plenty in matches, I did not mind that at all...in fact I accept that about this game and others when I PvP. I did mind that I never saw myself in any balanced matches, always ended up pitted against people who outranked me by enough of a margin.

Gonna pass.

If I didn't respond to you, chances are you're an idiot.

6/04/11 12:16:05 PM#11

The issue with Apb is that its match-making system does not take into account peoples threat rating. Threat rating is basically how far into the game you've advanced and dictates what Weapons and mods are avaliable for you to use. So if a TR 56 is going up against a Tr 162 you can almost bet that the TR 162 is going to have a ton more options to counter the TR56.

THAT is whats the matter with the system currently, you get people who seem to want to argue that TR is not important and there is nothing wrong with a TR 52 going against a TR 162 because its all skill based. No ... its not,  not when the weapon mods and character mods are equiped.

I'm teeeeeeeeeeeerrible at APB.

Hoooorrible.

But I still likethe game and think its good. I dont play it too much though because, I suck at it.  Not afraid to admit it though and claim the game is bad because infact, I'm bad at it.

Matchmaking works great.. A few things to consider though..

- It's easier to play in group.. You'll need a lot of tactics, flanking in APB which you can't do alone..

- When looking for a group, always try getting people of the same threat level (bronze, silver, gold).. Even with only one gold threat player, you risk on getting matched against other gold players..

- Use the friend list when you find nice (and good) players in the game.. Before joining a district, check who's online and join their district.. Join their team or send whispers asking to group up with them..

- If you have a mic.. USE IT.. If you don't, try to give simple indications when you spot ennemies through the group chat..

- When in missions, don't stay in the open, hug walls, spot covers and move between them.. It's a 3rd person shooters, use the camera at your advantage..

- Watch the radar.. Ennemies appear on the radar when in cars and when they're shooting..

- Watch your back.. People like to flank and go around... Unless you have really good teammates, don't ever suppose your back is being watched.

- Get a primary weapon that fits your playstyle.. If you like going for objectives, get a shotgun or a SMG.. If you're more the support type, get a sniper or a long range gun.. If you're whatever in between, get an assault gun.. It's your best bet...

- Get a secondary weapon that covers the flaws of your primary gun.. If you have a sniper, go for a short range gun with high fire rate.. If you have a shotgun, try to get a secondary gun that will give you a bit more range..

- Try to find a good clan with which to team up.. Playing over and over with the same people will give you an edge in battle since you'll have a good idea of what your teammates will do in any given situation.. Again, use your mic..

- Don't be shy to ask for feedbacks from your clan mates..

- Finally.. APB is a competitive online shooter.. So unless you're really good, you'll die.. A lot.. And lose games.. And play along complete jerks.. Welcome to the internet.. Remember it's a game and even though you're losing, you're still progressing in the game, though more slowly than when winning..

Now go out there and have fun..

Uhmm you are very wrong and i suggest all players that have played it and liked the concept should try the game again now.

you say it is not newbie friendly becouse you have to learn al the weaponry you mean that by how to use them or unlocking them either way it is plain easy and as for unlocking them.. since you have probaly played the game for 5 minutes and shutted it down to make a rant post the highest weapons you can unlock are gaining lvl 10 from a npc and since there are a shitload of npcs getting one to lvl 10 is done in a few missions so just look at the weapon you want go pledge to the npc do some missions and you can get it..

The match making is alot better then it used to be and they are still working on it.. if you just got from the tutorial theres no way you fought someone with loads better weapons then you since it takes all your oponents only if you for example fight a 4 vs 3 it means the group of 3 play better then the group of 4 alot of people cry if they fight matches while having 1 less in the group it means you and your team are more skilled players.

you cant say the game is bad becouse you get owned it means you suck at the game and need to learn to be better since you need actual skills to win at this game i had a group of 4 players and the matchmaking placed us against only 2 players so we were like this is going to be easy. it was a hard fight and they did not win easily but the 2 pros beated us less skilled players a few seconds in time.

QFT. Seriously that's the only thing it will ever have going for it. I played both the original and this version and they both sucked horribly. I can't even begin to explain how god awful driving and shooting and doing basically anything in this game is.

The game is not new player friendly. Saying you 'suk' and need to 'l2p' just labels you as a fanboi and nothing else. You need to look at this from the prespective of a new player. You are however displaying a good example of the sort of elitest pricks who play which is in itself a good advertisement.

No, in fact, the game ISNT very noob friendly.

So many people, as i did, walked into the game with FPS style "tactics" on my mind.  I got my ass handed to me.

It wasnt untill i learned about :

cover ; not charging into a mission objective without doubling back and scoping out the area for instance weapons

Weapons; as in how to fire them (spamming auto fire is a sure fire way to lose), but also each weapons role in the game, some are only good for specific scenarios.  The starter gun, when used right CAN be absolutly competative and surprisingly dangerous to go against no matter what weapon your toting.

Nades (grenades): how to use them , when to use them, and why your using them.  Typically you think its an instant team kill, usually they are used to "smoke" someone out of a well defended area, or to draw them into a teammates "sweet spot" for an easy kill.

Open world activities: understanding when you can be arrested, how you get arrested, what to do when you see that APB warning pop up as your dropping that TV into your trunk.  Understanding when your at risk is key to not being surprised.

Learning the LTL weapons: these are this games CC weapons, they dont kill, they stun you and then you get handcuffed (enforcers only get to use them) know when to spot an enemy using them and how to approach them, or how to use one as an enforcer

Learning your factions "objective" in the game, how to make money basically, its easier for criminals to make cash yet enforcers can grief criminals (for a small reward).

This isnt an Unreal Tournament mod, your TF2 and Halo skills are null and void in this game.  Previous FPS experience doesnt make you any better in this game, because of tis complexity.

So...how to get over the learning curve??  Practice, try out each weapon, ask in chat on its effective use, then try it in a live mission.  Failing missions early on isnt a big deal, you progress fast early, and losing wont drop you into a lower rank.  So dont fear a lost mission.  Also, if your getting facerolled over and over again, switch up tactics and weapons, you might be surprised how a simple thing as switching froma  sniper to a shotgun or colby will change how a fight goes down.

But suggesting people "dont bother" with the game because its got a learning curve, and yes the match making system will put you in a siutuation where only a truely skill player will win, doesnt make it a game to avoid...unless your looking for an easy mode game that takes little skill and practice.  Youll be mission out on some serious non-mission related open world crime fun however.  Random outbreaks of bumpercars can be a lot of fun.

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this.

This one sentence is at the heart of your play issues.

The game is learnable, and winnable. Your issue by what you say is that you don't win as soon as you log in.

In other words, in this case, it's not them, it's you.
