This article is from the International ArcheAge Community and Newsline - AAportal.net.

The Labor system is a unique feature of ArcheAge. It is actually one of the main aspects of the game-play.

The Labor system defines the way crafting, construction and gathering works. You will need labor points for most activities in ArcheAge, so this system entangles the whole game-play process, and offers unique possibilities for an ArcheAge player. You accumulate the points regularly at fixed intervals, whether you are on-line or off-line. The reason of such design is for equilibrium between the users who stay on-line a lot and users that play more casually. However, there is a limit to such accumulation, so that if users play often enough, they will be use this system optimally, while people, that play too often will have a shortage of these points, and people that play too rarely will have an excess of them. But still, users that cannot play the game each day, can log in occasionally, like every 2 days and spend all accumulated labor power at once.

Also, high-level users can use their labor power in more luxurious activities (such as going to a dance party) and also purchase the labor power of lower level users for crafting. XLGames would like the users to enjoy the game with less burden. So, with such a labor system, you can actually run a corporation. Pay people daily to work for you, and you get all your projects finished fast and rip the benefits, while the users get the money they need stably each day.

Thanks for posting this. Sounds potentially interesting but as somone who plays in longer bursts rather than a bit everyday I'm not sure whether I will find it too limiting or not I guess it depends on how easy it is to set up contracts to buy/use/be assisted by other characters.

I'm sorry but this feature is very cheap and cash-shop-ish IMO.

I understand that they want to make the game more causal friendly but jeez: find another way to do it!

I do not see a reason not to like this system, this made me even more hyped up about archeage that ever.

But, if you refer to F2P model with game shop - then it sucks of course. But I'm almost sure it will be P2P with no shops.

Sounds like a variant of EVE's off line skill point system, earned at a steady state and spent to increase certain (but not all ) skills.

If so I applaud it, being one of those players who cannot normally keep up with those who have more free time to play MMORPG's.  (EVE's skill training system is one of the main reasons I play it)

I really liked the look of this game, all the features sound amazing but the combat is the same old 1,2,3 button mashing, should deffo be fps style combat for these type of games.

Currently playing : Darkfall
Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

FPS works only for games, where there's a set maximum of players in instanced maps. It's in total contradiction to non-instanced FFA mass-combat. It's simply not fun fighting with several hundred people on the field, when you have FPS-controls, as you'll loose the overview pretty fast.
Additionally the ability to pick targets is cruicial in such big fights, and FPS doesn't allow for selective target-calling. FPS-controls in mass-combat is nothing but a zerg-fest.

BTT:

The labor-system is pretty cool this way, as guilds do gain something from every player, no matter if they're casual or hardcore-players. Players being assets, providing something useful even if logged off sure makes for better communities.

I very much like what they've come up with there.

Yes I agree. I can not believe they are going down the crappy combat route. I can't play EQ clones after trying Darkfall.

It is one of main frustrations with MMOs the same old shitty combat system that should have been put to bed years ago. I mean how long can people play the same olg game time and time again but with new clothes on?

Combat should be engaging and feel dangerous. The fear of losing your items really makes a game imo.

Agreed.

I was getting a little excited about this game, but after learning of the combat style they have chosen to use, I can't say I'll be following this game or that I'm interested in purchasing it come launch.

After experiencing Darkfall, there is no going back.

Its a sandbox game. If I want to pew pew people, I'll play actual shooter. RPG games are made to be click-to-played.

I'd take game who has everything archeage does than half-broken games who have "action" like darkfail :/

Indeed, I don't wanna see any other half-assed attempt at twitch combat like darkfall's or MO's, if you wanna do it then do it right, until then this combat is enough for me.

I wander if this game will survive. So far from what i've seen it looks like the average mmorpg out there..the little things they add to this game has the same feeling as the little things added to other mmorpgs that everyone thought would be so cool or special lol. It would be nice if this game does well, but i feel it will be crushed by everyone just like the mmorpgs before it lol...we just have to wait for it to come out to see the negative threads about this game lol.

Add Earthrise to that list of failed MMOs with twitch-combat...

ArcheAge is more like EvE Online then any of those three titles mentioned (DF, MO, Earthrise). You won't be running around being able to kill anyone anywhere without real consequences.

With this crafting-system this game requires you to invest alot of time, planning, social engineering and passion instead of just 1337 movement skills. So I guess this game won't be interesting for FPS-players in more then one area.

Exactly.  Obviously we have to different types of player here when it comes to combat style.  I say if you like the Darkfall FPS style, Tera is coming your way, play that.  Personally, I've played Darkfall and found the FPS style a hindrance.  I've always felt that way about my MMOs.  It ruins my immersion and makes combat annoying and tedious.  I do like my FPS on consoles in games like CoD though.  Just not in my fantasy titles where I have a tons of spells at my disposal.  Hence why I prefer lock on targeting and skill being done via strategy in battle, not twitch combat.

However, scifi space combat or vehicular combat is a different story but even then I still like seeing my ship in third person view.

Anyway, back on topic, ArcheAge is shaping up to be the epitome of what I want in an MMO.  Including the combat.

Look at all the negative threads made about EvE Online in that regard. The game is still pretty successful.

It's time that there's more MMORPGs with the depth of EvE Online coming out. A good mix of economy/crafting, FFA-PvP and themepark PvE.

Have you even read any of the features being implemented in this game?  Not since SWG have I seen a game where you can place a house anywhere in the world, build ships that are for combat as well as travel, plant trees, bushes, crops,  animal farms, and these are all interactive.  I've not seen a sandbox combined with a themepark for a fully immersive experience of story and player content.  I'm just barely touching the surface of what ArcheAge has in it, too.  So, I have to wonder, what are you talking about?

I'll clear it up...what i meant was...that this is not the first time that new features in a game that we all thought would be soo cool and soo great ended up being a piece of crap. All because you seen a few videos of houses being built and read about all sorts of features this game is supposed to have..doesn't mean the game is going to be any good...It reminds me of the time when people thought in Aion we could fly all across the lands with our wings.. just to find out all you can do is glide off of hills lmao besides little sections you were allowed to fly in. I'm neutral and I can smell a game thats showing all sorts of promise before its released failing when its released.
