A: Planetside is an MMO.  This is MMORPG.com and it has Planetside listed, it was advertised as an MMO, it charges a monthly fee.  Walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it's a duck.

B: Half sandbox MMO? is this a new subgenre?

C: People are proud of Darkfall beause people have a crazy desire to defend whatever game they are currently paying $15 a month for.

D: Proud because it's the ONLY player skill based game out there? So darkfall is the best game when compared to... nothing else?  That sure is something to be proud of.

The simple fact is, if you try to sell Darkfall as a sandbox MMO with FFA PvP and full loot, EVE is obviously a better game.  If you try to show off "player skill" and a FPS interface, Planetside is the clear winner.  You may enjoy it, but that doesn't make it the "best".

you have attributes and spell stats

Attributes are the bascis of your char.

Spell stats are 1-100 which indicate how often you use  a spell and the dmg output.

but your not getting my point:

You can have a uber char in darkfall and still suck in pvp

 you can have a newbie char and kill vets chars in the game..

Its not about the stats its about the skills of player and if any players say otherwise they either

 -  don't play the game

 - tried the trial and  gave up within the trial time

So you took your friend to a siege that he couldn't participate in.  Well, not all of us like to watch.  I wonder what was so fun about it, can you elaborate?  I joined in guild in DF a while back and they took me out PvP'ing, it was boring.  All I did was follow people.  I was playing for a couple weeks and couldn't even hit people.  If I did, the damage was irrelevant.  Did I mention I was fighting mostly naked people?  I guess my experience was dramatically different.

The FPS combat.  There's currently no mmorpg doing it.  It makes other mmorpgs simply boring.  You have to aim your arrows, aim spells, swing your sword in the right direction, etc.  It makes all the other tab-targeting games a snorefest.

There is a few MMO's doing it.  Mortal Online immediately comes to mind.  This is purely an opinionated point which holds no actual proof.  Age of Conan has a very limited verson of aimed attacking.  While FPS combat sounds amazing, it only works well with shooters.  There is a reason why 98% if all MMO's go the third person or isometric(over the top) view, 98% of the gamers prefer it.

Now the game does get old like any other game.  Like I said I'm coming back to it.  But it always feels great to come back to because it's just such a different game compared to everything out there.  I usually go about 3 months on and take a break for a month and then come back again.

I'm glad you've found something that you enjoy. 

The game is hard to get into due to lack of hand holding and in-game tutorials.  But there are tutorials on youtube that can show you the right direction for new characters.  So for all you lurkers out there that just enjoy reading these boards, try out Darkfall.  You'll like getting away from tab targeting.  And for everyone already playing darkfall, we already know it's the best out there.  Which is sad considering how slow the devs are lol.

Gamers don't like games that are hard to play, and by hard I don't mean difficulty in in-game activities.  What I mean is that Darkfall and games like it are hard to play in basic functionality.  Figuring out key bindings and how to set them.  Figuring out skills in the game and what you need to progress.  Figuring out where main cities are.  How do use very basic commands in the game.  Spending a week trying to get used to a very user-unfriendly combat system compared to what we are used to.  Games such as Darkfall is harder to play than most, and not only because it is a full loot/FFA pvp gam (whch is usually the argument I hear).   I personally can't play it because it doesn't have a skill point cap.  It destroys economy because everyone can make anything if they want.  No replayability because of one character slot.  Characters become jack of all trades, not master of one, but master of all demi-gods.  I mean, the servers aren't even at half capacity.  That alone should tell you something.  I don't like the weird view perspective changes.  I don't like that it uses the old /command system that went out of style after EQ1 released.  The UI is simply ugly and unfinished. 

 

That being said, I'm glad you found something you like.  It's not for me nor 96% of all gamers.  In fact, probably closer to 99.9% of all gamers.  I love sandbox.  It's just that no one has made a fantasy sandbox that can even shake a stick at Ultime Online.  That's 14 years people.  It would be great if some AAA developer gave us what we wanted.  Imagine what a AAA sandbox would be like.  Hard to imagine isn't it?  It hasn't happened in 14 years.

Seconded. Also when planetside 2 comes out, if ever, it will be even moar better than the original is better i assume. however, i have not tried darkfall myself so maybe it is fun too. the world may never know.

We get it, you have your own little clubhouse where you sit around patting each other on the back, breaching up each others egos all the while calling out everyone else who doesnt like Darkfall.

In your opinion Darkfall might be the best game out there for you, however most people dont care for it, and its not those peoples fault they dont, its the game itself.

So no matter how much better you guys feel you are than the rest of us, and congratulate yourselves for it, Darkfall isn't impressing anyone but the other people in your club.

 Absolutely, Ive been playing mmo's since 99, and I have yet to actually think to myself "This is the best mmo"

Practically speaking ive had issues with every mmo ive played in one way or another, and Im man enough to admit the faults and not take personal offense when someone disagrees with me.
