Originally posted by Wrender What you said about WoW where everyone stands around the auction house waiting for the next instance is exactly the same as rift on a pvp server. I played to 50 prestige rank3 and yeah not a lot of open world pvp. There is no reason to open world pvp really, the warfronts give more prestige. If i solo kill someone i get 100 prestige, but if i do a warfront, i get 20 prestige per kill, and 600 for winning. Even if you dont win, the rate you will gain prestige is far higher than in the open world.
Most of the people who play Rift seem to enjoy chasing carrots, and carrot chasers wont open world pvp if they get better rewards for doing warfronts. They are in it for shinies, i like that term, and not much else. |

@OP 1. Quests are mostly meh, but due to invasions and rifts popping often they don't get You bored all that much. And since those and BG gives xp You should be fine. 2. PvP is weak for someone who would treat it as main activity. Souls due to all combinations offers high degree of customization and thus fun, as long as You can read and are willing to experiment. BGs are called WarFronts and are okay but You'll get bored as there are only 4 of them. World PvP is a tad meh, but due to no flying mounts or dungeon finder it has potential. Have to see what Trion will do about world PvP in next bigger update. My advice - don't buy now, but keep eye on Rift and check where world PvP will go. I think Trion idea is to mix some world public groups PvE/PvP(rifts, invasions) and instanced PvE/PvP(dungeons and raids and WF). So if You like only one element it won't deliver. |

As much as I like this game, I'll be honest with you. PvP sucks until endgame. Once you get to level 50 and get in a decent guild, you'll start doing pre-made vs pre-made. PUG pvp is stupid, of course it's been that way in every game. As for questing, it's just like WoW and just about any other game with alot of quests. I've heard also that endgame PvP will include raiding capital cities and such for Favor/Favor quests (Favor=PvP currency), but that has yet to be implemented. I find it fun though on PvP servers how players aren't OP just because of thier level. A couple of level 30-35s (if they're the right classes) can take down a level 50 pretty easy. There is no penalty in PvP for being lower level other than stats/gear. None of that stupid "I can't even hit you because you're 20 levels higher than me" you find in WoW. "Well, there was a time when I was quick to judge others based on what little I'd heard. But... traveling with even the worst, slimiest, smelliest of tieflings and no-honor tree-worshipping elves has taught me some of them are all right." -Khelgar Ironfist |

First of all, this game's grind is so short that you will not be bothered by quest content. In general, faux-reviewers keep bringing up how boring the grind is despite it lasting a week. The fact is, even if it is boring, you're not mired in it forever to hit 50. Seriously, two weeks at most. Unbalanced, unorganized but competetive PvP seems to best describe Rift's PvP state. You do play roulette with your 3 server pools when queuing up for stuff, and team composition generally wins or loses you a match. That being said, the pool is generally pretty full and tears flow like a fountain if that's your thing. Those pools, however, never seem to be divided, so in a way, you're probably not going to be playing in 'fair' scenarios. There doesn't appear to be any sorting based off tiers. The thing is that while the meta is bonkers, you do have a lot of flexibility overall to follow the meta if necessary. Short leveling grind and swappable roles helps mitigate the overall problems with balance at the moment. If you're truly competetive, you'll play whatever the meta demands, and rift does very little to stop you from playing all 4 classes and maintaining them fairly easily. Still, I don't think PvP in Rift is structured enough to be satisfying for OP. It's geared towards embracing the community as a whole, and the community generally bitches. |

Originally posted by Crazy00Eyes 1) Yes, the quest's are boring and repetitive as hell, but you level quick so it's not too big of an issue. 2) Don't do it! PVP is royally unbalanced. There's cleric's walking around like gods, and pyro's one shotting everyone else, it's terrible. There are no ranked matches either, so the warfront's (instanced PVP matches) are just a PVP gear grind. Save your money, especially if you enjoy PVP. |

no mmo has pvp perfectly balanced but what rift did in last patch was buff a already powerful soul called pyro in mage tree, nerf rogues and warriors and make clerics very very hard to kill. would not be such a big deal if the natural predator as ADVERTIZED on their website the voidknight is completely nerfed. |

mmorpgs are not known for balanced pvp, but in case you don't care then: waiting queues between matches are somewhere around 1-10min you get decent gear and xp
once you are 50 you can do PvP all day. while you are lvling up there are some lvl ranges where you have to wait longer for invites |

I'd wait until the summer or just after if you want 'better' PVP outside of the Warfronts, guild quests and daily world pvp quests atm - the basic struchure is there and theres RVR built into the game but as of yet not active due to other fouces the devs have to deal with first (check out a few interviews) and theres no dought 'PVP Rifts' aren't on the drawing board already.. Trion are completely on the ball with patch and content updates so theres no worry that the game will 'stall' like many other MMOs out there, plus hopping over on a PVP server and messing up the other faction's Rifts and bases with friends is not only an option but RECOMMENDED as PVP by the devs, theres a lot more reason to 'World PVP' then in other games. As for questing: TBH I'd reccomend not only you don't quest 100% Rift farm and WF instead but have more then one soul build type going at once just to mix the gameplay up a little - sticking just to questing and one build gets old quickly, plus misses the point of the game (and strongest reason to play this) completely Bring on the WARRRRGGHH! |

If you're mostly into PvP, don't bother. Apart from 3 BGs (4 at lvl 50) there's no PvP content at all. No world PvP objectives, no arena, nothing... Rift PvP is also just one big CC fest, it's not uncommon to go from 100% hp to dead while being CCed the entire time. |

I'm constantly playing as a healing cleric, I'm about 200.000 prestige from prestige 6 by pure healing so far (which yelds the lowest amount of favor/prestige in the game). Diminishing returns were introduced with patch 1.1. Perma squirreling is gone and so are the long perma stuns/silences, AoE or otherwise. They still happen, after all in order to start seeing diminishing effects you'll need to get hit once for full effect. But with some careful gameplay (no bunching up) less people get affetcted and since two out of three spikers are out of the game, it's easier to keep the stunned people alive than before. Check your PvP soul for help on that too. |

Originally posted by Darkheart00 No where did I say anything about wanting a perfect PvP game, I even said PvP in MMOs is hard to balance and rarely is. The OP was asking about PvP, so I gave him my opinion. I do like rift and am currently subbed and will more than likely stay subbed for at least a few more months. But no one can honestly say Rift PvP is good, not even close to it. If you wanna be a fanboy then thats fine, but at least be honest about the state of the game. Rift is a very good PvE game with a side dish of PvP thrown in to appease the masses. Anyone looking for a game just for PvP should steer clear. And once again in case you missed it the 1st 3 times, this is my opinion only. Dont get your fanboy thong in a bunch because someone has an opinion that differs. |
