It has been known for about a year that Trion Worlds has been developing an MMO based on a Syfy series set to debut this year. The science fiction network has finally named the game. Called "Defiance", elements from the series will be incorporated into the game and vice versa. Defiance is slated to be released later in 2011.
Read more here. A few screens from Defiance are also available on Trion's site.

Ahh, Scifi (I bloody refuse to call it SyFy) channel original movies. CGI so bad it looks like a cutscene from an early 90's video game, and that's mildly insulting to most games from the era. I like them because they also let you know which actor's careers are about to implode; they're pretty much a last desperate grab for cash or some sort of recognition at cons to justify charging twenty bucks for an autograph. Anyway if the gameplay is anything like Tabula Rasa's, I might check it out. Rift wasn't my thing, but it did show me that Trion is perfectly capable of creating a polished product. We shall see as more information is revealed. |

I sure hope the "SyFy" game is better than the "SyFy" movies. Camp only goes so far. "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

The biggest thing here for me is...Will this game be sub based? If so I won't play the game or watch the show. Additionally I hear this game might be available for the X-box, so charging a sub fee along with X-box live fees (isn't it done already?) seems dumb. I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote. |

Originally posted by gaou From what I UNDERSTAND, changing the name from SciFi to Syfy, allows them to air more shows and movies under their name. I guess the problem was 'SciFi' is a type of genre, thus couldn't be copyrighted. SyFy however is their own spelling of it, and CAN be copyrighted.
Anyways, I'm interested to see what Trion does with this. Rift wasn't quite what I was looking for, but it was a solid, polished product none the less. |

In keeping with Siffee's prime lineup, will there be crafting ala "Quantum Kitchen" and PvP ala "WWF Wrestling?" Siffee has more reality programming than Fox. Pushing "the boundaries of imagination, creativity, and story-telling" my ass. |

SciFi (sounds like "Wi-Fi") is what the channel used to be. SyFy (sounds and acts like "sissy) is what the channel has become. Wrestling, "reality" paranormal investigations, ruining decent SciFi shows by putting them at stupid times, and creating shows from dumb jokes (a vampire, a ghost, and a werewolf walk into a bar...ouch!) are just efforts to become mainstream in a similiar vein to how MTV so very rarely actually shows music videos. |

There are a few shows on SciFi (I refuse to say SyFy) that I really enjoy. Warehouse 13, Stargate Universe, Sanctuary, so hopefully if the show/game is as good as those shows are this is good news. Hopefully they aren't like the other craptastic shows, like mentioned above the made for tv movies with or the stupid "realistic" monster/ghost hunter shows. |

Originally posted by Zolgar I think it was so they could air non-scifi shows and get less grief from the consumers. Wrestling is not sci-fi. They also need to fire the guy either coming up with the original movies or the guy green lighting them. They used to be decent years ago, production quality not so much, but stories were much better. Now it's just crazy natural disaster or dinosaur/overgrown animal movies, yawn. So, is this gonna be a retry of the ideas they had for SGW? They planned to have that game and the show cross over into each other. Maybe trion can pull it off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you can't beat 'em, hold 'em off 'till you come up with a better plan. |

Originally posted by battleaxe I agree with most of that except for Being Human, I actually enjoy that show. It's a little drama-filled for a typical scifi show (yes scifi, the genre) but I can watch it without throwing my TV out the window unlike most of the other stuff they have.
