What are the official minimum specs for running the game?  I see many people with issues getting the game to run and the common response on the forums is that their system is too low or they have too little memory etc.

These are the only ones I could find:

http://www.mortalonline.com/news/july-13-07-09

https://account.mortalonline.com/content.php?name=information

Minimum configuration (1024x768, detail reduced)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
RAM: 1GB
Video card: ATI Radeon 9800/nVidia GeForce 6600
Video memory 256MB
Hard drive space: 5-25GB

Recommended configuration (1680x1050)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or equivalent
Video memory: 512MB
Hard drive space: 30GB

Can this game really run with 1 GB of RAm and a GeForce 6600?  Is that even possible?

Is it realistic that 2GB RAM is Recommended?  That seems very low to me...

Have the specs changed since this was posted?  If so can anyone link?  I find it odd that those specs would still be listed on the website...

I am running i5 with GTX260 and 4gb ram. Game is not playable on high, on medium it is still a bit laggy (fps lag) and sometimes freezes up (not a crash). Duno if the freeze is hardware or software related, however. Low settings are.. well, low settings, it runs smooth but looks crap.

Please note that I am not interested in starting a debate with someone who is running the game on high with same spec, just merely stating my experince.

These really arent requirements, except if they changed a LOT. Tried when there was beta or something so I had free try, I have almost exact stats as you put at Recommended and game was unplayable at low.

I had the "recommended" specs during beta and could barely play the game on low-medium settings.  The problem is though, I don't know if the game was just that buggy or my hardware couldn't handle it.

gtx 260 oc 40-70 fraps low-medium custom settings, textures 256 (textures and shadows and AA eat fraps) on direct x 10

10 fps difference with direct x if i recall.

Also not having dedicated sound card, will affect frames, I noticed that, like the looking at waterfall, just set your frequency to 16 from 24 or something.

I got 3.2 quad core intel processer (2.6 but OC) also nivida march for sli this march for next drivers I think  or next month, depends on nivida.

4 gig of memory (ddr2 @ 800mhz)

game works quite good for me, and looks decent enough.

also the game is quite cpu intensive, depending on amount of people on screen, so your cpu will bottleneck your gpu if not good enough.

I am looking for the official minimum and recommended specs from the game.  Do the ones posted above look realistic to you given your extensive knowledge of the game?  To me they look impossible.  I find it hard to believe that the game can run with 1 GB ram.. and that only 2 GB is recommended...  I would think that needs to be double but perhaps the info posted on their website is out of date.. so if there are newer official specs please link.

Thx

quite a bizarre place to look for official responses, being that this forum is not in any way affiliated with the developers.

Well he did post a link to the official site's listed spec so what's the problem? What, we can't have a discussion here on these forums?

He said he wasn't looking for a discussion, he was looking for an official statement.  I was merely suggesting (by implication) that the official forums, or some other SV sanctioned (or at least SV-attended) channel of communication might be a better place to look for official responses.

1. That's not what I said.... feel free to scroll up.

2.  I do not need an "official response" as opposed to asking if anyone knows of any other recommended/minimum spec that was posted other then the one I linked.  Also, the support forum is restricted to only customers so I do not have access to it.  If however, you do not know the answer to my question but would like to post such a question in the official support forum for me I would be much appreciative!

Since you have previously displayed a high level of knowledge about the game in the past.. do you know of any min/rec specs other then the ones I listed above?   If not, do the ones I listed above look accurate to you?  In your experience does it seem likely that the game would run with the minimum specs?   Does it seem likely that the game would run well with the "recommended" specs? When I compare them to other games that use the same engine they look very low...

There's a public "questions" forum that should suit ya just fine.  I'm not being snarky, I think updated minreqs would be a good idea (though for all I know the ones posted might technically be correct).  Keep in mind, for years (actually, most my life) my computers have always met minimum specs, and ONLY minimum specs.  Those computers never played games well on lowest settings.  WIth that in mind, I've always wondered exactly what 'minimum' means.

That being said, I'd be suprised if the posted minreqs would play MO smoothly.  I have my doubts it'd play it by normal minreq standards (which is crummy) .  So yeah, you're probably right that SV should re-up their reqs.

Now, to describe (by memory, so excuse inaccuracies) my old computer, that ran MO on medium-low settings pretty smoothly:

2 gigs ram (though when I added a 3rd gig it made a big difference)

AMD Athlon x2   2.5ghz

Geforce 8600

Windows Vista, 32-bit

Personally, if I had my say in how "minimum requirements" were calculated, I'd put the bare minimum at a shade below what I listed above (I couldn't see it going well at 1gb ram).  That being said, if we are to assume that MO should have the same standards of "minimum" that every other company uses, the minreqs could go a fair bit below what I listed.

But yeah, if you're honestly interested in finding out whether or not those system reqs are up to date, and/or looking for revised minreqs, I'd look into asking in the official forum's 'questions' forum... don't worry, that's what that forum is made for.

"WIth that in mind, I've always wondered exactly what 'minimum' means."

Conventionally, "minimum" requirements denote the lowest possible specs that a game is required to run. For example, many newer games utilize advanced shaders which require DirectX 9 or above. If you don't have a video card that supports DirectX 9 the game will not work on your computer.

Which is the problem, a game is rarely playable at an 'acceptable' level (subjective, I know) with a computer with components made about a month after dx9 was released (like, a decade ago?  I dunno).  from that perspective, I don't see any technical problem with listing the required ram at 1gb.  It'd be worthless, yeah, but it is loadable as far as I can tell.

It has to do with the amount of settings the game has for graphics. A standard game nowadays includes resolution, AA, models, effects, bloom, blur, and shaders. If each of these settings had only 2 options, you are talking about 128 different configurations.

It's unfeasible to list every single requirement for every single configuration, so typically the "minimum" requirements are based at "low" settings and "recommended" is based around medium.

Default How well will MO run for me.

I'm thinking about coming back to MO after a good long hiatus, but I'd like to know if they've done any optimization to the engine.

My specs:

AMD Phenom II 940 3.2ghz (Quad)
ATi 4850 512mb
4g DDR2 1066mhz RAM
7200 RPM Drive

I usually play in 1080 res.

It ran ok for me before, have they done any optimizations in the past 4-6 months ?

P.S. I know my GPU is shitty. I'm upgrading it soon.

Other than the GPU you should be fine.
CPU is ok, the ram is on the lower end but most of the team run the game with 4gigs on their systems.
So you won't be able to play with maxed out gfx settings but you'll be able to play.

I suspect he is referring to the fact that it is DDR2, since he says most of the dev team uses 4 gb.

2 GB DDR2 RAM is "Recommended" but 4GB DDR2 RAM is "on the lower end"?

That would seem to be rather odd...

These are the only ones I could find:

Minimum configuration (1024x768, detail reduced)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
RAM: 1GB
Video card: ATI Radeon 9800/nVidia GeForce 6600
Video memory 256MB
Hard drive space: 5-25GB

Recommended configuration (1680x1050)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or equivalent
Video memory: 512MB
Hard drive space: 30GB

Can this game really run with 1 GB of RAm and a GeForce 6600?  Is that even possible?

Is it realistic that 2GB RAM is Recommended?  That seems very low to me...

Have the specs changed since this was posted?  If so can anyone link?  I find it odd that those specs would still be listed on the website...

If you were thinking of playing this game, don't.

It is still in very very bad shape at the moment. Riddled with bugs/exploits/etc. Best to wait a few more months to see if it can stay afloat/get fixed.
