Actually "everything you knew about warcraft...will be changed...forever!" advertisement doesn't ring a bell. It sounds to me like they were trying to recreate their whole game for new players, not add a cherry on top. Which is why they tried with realID for casuals, the whole world needs to appeal to players who don't have much time during the day to play. |

Originally posted by Alrestor WHAT?! How did you obtain that information? Well, the little detail that I still liked in WoW after all these years that kept my... LITTLE respect (the WAR in that world againts two major factions with several races and ideals) is going to be destroyed... What will happend to WoW PvP then... without factions or hatred? Don't like that ideia at all.
Sorry to post this 'zomg' on a rift topic but THAT I needed to gasp and comment because it was... touching news. ![]() I see a universe where unicorns fly... and my mother-in-law is in a grave at last. |BEST UNIVERSE EVA AWARD| |

Originally posted by AceOfSpade90 As I mentioned its "while leveling" as the whole chain quest is phasing. It doesn't affect pvp its a choice to enter "the time zone" if you're high enough level. Anyways they are already hinting it throughout the game and its only a matter of time until fanboys can't deny WoW copied rift. (First come first serve)
edit: the whole expansion is just one really long quest. |

Originally posted by Boradin RIFT directly copied and pasted WoW's achievement system. I don't mind games using other ideas and editing them a little bit or presenting it in their own way but with the achievement system it seems as if Trion couldn't be arsed but wanted it in there. It just looks bad in my opinion. Its a good average game. But they clearly went to copy the big names in MMO's and played the safe route of just making sure its not buggy. Its a game that will sell at times like this. When no other MMO's are coming out and many people maybe looking to try something new but i can't see it lasting very long, in terms of subscribers. |

Originally posted by Jimmy562 Ah... no. I've made achievements in Rift that I've never seen in wow...not just some... all so far. And tell me Jimmy... what game have u seen this clean at launch? None I'm guessing. I'm not saying that Rift is the perfect game. I'm not even saying it's better than wow. But so far...for me anyway... i'm playing with adults!(That's priceless!) Originally posted by Jimmy562 Being a history buff myself Jimmy... I can't see your point. Wow is a clone of several games. Sure, Warhammer(online) came out after Wow...but Warhammer(The game) has been around at least 15 years before Wow was even thought of. Alot of ppl make fun of Ogre Island but it was one of the first(If not the first) Mmorpgs..My point is don't set one game apart from the rest... they all copy each other somehow. The main selling point is quality. Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games. |

Rift is a clone to wow/warhammer because its heavily gear based/class based/instanced/instanced pvp/instanced dungeons. THis game is almost an exact clone as warhammer. I will give you that its a tad better but not much. It's a tab targeting game and we have to technology to make twitch based fps combat in MMO's. Asheron's Call had tab targeting but thats because the technology wasn't there for fps type combat. It did have some twitch based elements to it and it was non instanced (no instanced dungeons or parts of the world.) and easily the best pvp in any mmo untill darkfall came out. WoW is basicly just playing fable 3. A very polished game that has dumbed down classes, easy combat and extremely extremly linear story that and holds your hand and tells you how to play the entire time. and then theres games like OBlivion. Open world, lots of depth, endless player made content, limitless class ideas. It's just all around a better game than fable. Fable is just a quick fix with no depth. WoW or Rift is that quick fix. IT lacks depth completlely and is pointless. UO, Asheron's Call, Darkfall, SWG are the games people want to see become huge budget sandbox(or should I sAY MMO) games that people want. Oblivion and Fallout type games. ask yourself if you would rather play fable as an mmo or oblivion? I would have to assume that 75% or more would rather play oblivion but somehow all the mmo's are just simplified rpgs like fable...but I guess that will bring the population( just look at the most popular movies/music/television just very simple stuff with no depth, talent, or intelligence behind it.) My friends at work are like man you gonna try rift out? I tell them that I really only like playing MMO's that arn't heavily instanced and have pvp. They are like man i saw some cool battleground videos of rift tho it has pvp. Then you have to let them know. Any gear/class based/instanced game with out any penalities to death is not going to have meaningful pvp. It's just not. In Asheron's Call you lost some gold and took a 5% xp penalty, lost your buffs(extremely tedious to buff in the game) and got sent back to your single bindstone (which could be a 30 minute trip to get back.) You fought over dungeons and towns that mattered and the game world was shaped by the players and it had extremely good pve for its time. Darkfall is a different kind of beast. I will admit that the penalty in this kind of game is too harsh for some, which is you lose all your items on death. But the combat is so much more fun in darkfall than a 123 button masher game I don't know why they would even make a game like that anymore. I came here to explain why people say its a clone. It's a broad picture and people pick out little things like rifts and achievments talent trees and stuff that make it have some differences. but its no differentt to most people. It's the same thing with different skins. I came to try to explain some of the things that people want to see in new MMO's. 1. SEamless world 2.real time combat (not 1990 technology tab targeting boring combat) 3.deep character depth and uniqueness, (not stuck in classes and talent trees) 4. and for some meaningful pvp that has an impact on the world. (pvp in rift shoudln't even be considered pvp its a joke but that holds true for all themepark games.) |

Rift does take the best of Wow and War but they did it well so i really enjoy it. It's really like playing Wow and War but up to date. WoW is really getting old (in my opinion at least) and War was good but too much buggy (I know its better now, ive been played this game before Rift but since they lost major subscribtions, the game will never get what it deserve... anyway) So i dont see any problem with the fact that Rift is kind of a clone. At least, i have fun.
P.S: Sorry for my english, im french. Stop complaining and move your ass. |

dear Dreeter, who cares. you have to much spare time and you didn't even bother to mention Ultima online which Wow is a clone of. Rift is just the next step. if it is to easy and the pvp is a joke. try DOTA or various mods or clones like LOL or HON. and for the RPG element play final fantasy 1-7 im sure that will challenge you, and for the social value go to the PUB. all these ' i hate rift' 'i hate wow' bollocks is annoying..try some constructive criticisim and alternatives. i know some haters will reply. rage on men..rage on. cheers |
