I wish people would start not to be so dependent on the rigid trinity setup, and learn some different tricks.

The whole stale trinity mechanics in team combat with its rigid class system has made people lazy, made incapable to adapt to different situations or other types of gameplay.

Fair enough. I haven't seen a game that doesn't use it, but even still... all I meant is that it depends on how it's handled so that you're not bombed with a player whose never tried the spec/class/whatever before entering the instance. It doesn't matter if it has no tanks, or no healers or whatever, it's still important that switching specs/talents/subjobs/whatever isn't so easy as to punish the players unlucky enough to get x person in their group.

Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.

If you'd played GW arena PvP intensively over a period of months, you'd say differently: trinity combat isn't the be all end all of MMO team play, there are different styles of MMO group combat mechanics, away from the trinity, that work just as well if not better.

People just have to be more versatile with them or adapt to different team combat roles.

But hey, people needed to learn trinity combat for a first time too when they started MMORPG's, so it should be doable, learning new things and new roles.

It's all in the details and execution, I agree.

swg before the NGE didnt use it

that game was a skill based classless system

one of the primary reasons the NGE was taken so badly is because they changed to a class base system thus taking away what a lot of people loved about the game  the ability to dictate who you are in the game

i suspect its somthing like swg had that  SW is going for

but then again i could ba as far off as possible they havent given us much to go on yet lol :P

at this point everything is a guess at best

“The greatest ignorance is to reject something you know nothing about”

just because the cake is a lie dosnt mean there cant be 3.1415926535etc etc (Pi) :P

Nah... switching rolls can be a great thing. If its anything like switching rolls in DCUO I'm looking forward to it.

Kind of sux, having to sit around and wait to fight, just because you cant find "X" class to get you through.

Whoopee. Another "grouping is more funner" design philosophy. Now, thanks to Rift, SWTOR, and now this, I'm going to be saving a lot of money not buying MMOs for the foreseeable future. I'm done paying for content that I'll never see. At least with Guild Wars 2, they're not going to be charging me a monthly rate to play.

Grouping is only fun for people who like it. There are those who won't do it no matter how much developers do to drive them into it. We'll just stop playing...and paying!

FFS, you only have fun in a game if you can have the same things as everyone else? Pure jealousy and greed. If you don't care to group with any of the other players in the game, why do you care where they get to go or what gear they have?

Hmm, right. They didn't manage to bring AoC to the x360 so I have a hard time believing that they'd succeed for The Secret  World, looking at the high end graphics and it being an MMO. It certainly won't be on the x360 at launch, if at all.

iI'm hoping like hell they have open world PVP servers. If they do then I know this game will be exactly what I want. If they don't this game will just be another meh to me.

To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.

3/12/11 3:34:44 AM#91

Although I haven't been following this game, the article and the materials I have seen right now is pretty promising. The skill system is exactly what I would want in a game and the setting is...refreshing. I love orcs, goblins and the like as much as the enxt guy, but this game is a nice change of pace. Kind of reminds me of the Dresden Files. Guns, magic and dark things which go bump in the night. I think I'll start following this one now.

Sounds alot like DC universe

In that it has 7 active skills only to be accessed normaly....not sure what the deal is with that.

Micromanagement of that type is major annoying.

So which means you gets a bunch of skills you can never use.....becasue you have to choose 7 only to be used at a time.....

oh but it has passive skills too.....<_<

Just like DC universe....

Sounds like the game will be ok.....not sure it will be that great though

It's called tactics and is not annoying at all.  That kind of thing allows for a kind of class customization within all the skill trees.  A role to play.  It's guild wars style use of skills, what is wrong with that?

Also, in conjecture to what some guy said earlier that is related, being able to switch roles at anytime does not mean that everyone will pick the same skills/roles; as long as the game is balanced from the perspective of many different skills that will not happen.  A type of respeccing is one situation though and games with multiple skill trees that you can pursue without regret(supposedly, eg Ryzom) are another.  What they both have in common is that everyone will not be the same as long as there is balance.

The pve part of the game (main part) seems really interesting.  I look forward to seeing this unfold more.  The pvp, however, after reading this article, seems like crap.  To be able to jump into a "pvp zone" from anywhere in the world will ruin immersion.

Trust, man.  Really....trust.  Ragnar Tournquist, the creative director is the King of immersion and story.  I truly do not believe that his ideas about PvP are going to be interferring with immersion.  Wait until you hear a bit more about the PvP and the "whys" of PvP before writing it off.  I can't guarantee anything, but I would indeed be willing to bet cash money on him handling it right. He will see to it that it makes complete sense and doesn't interfere with the storyline or immersion, because that is what he is ALL about.

The very fact that TSW has NOT been touched by Gaute Godager leads me to believe that it'll be better than AO and AoC, and the simple fact that it's Ragnar Tørnquist that's GD'ing TSW has me drooling with anticipation.

That being said, I'll be waiting a couple of months before I pick up TSW, as I know that Funcom has a tendency to send games out the door a tad off-kilter, so to speak.
