Imo so far this second launch is a cautious success. I'm quite optimistic so far. The lag's been brought under control quite promptly relative to many other launches we've been seeing recently. Now we'll have to see how the beast behaves once they start turning on the various features that have been disabled during the initial launch period.

I remain quite optimistic - the game has a great concept with a lot of cool stuff in the pipeline and the launch woes so far are really nothing to write home about.

I agree. In order for Xsyon to be successful, it must launch with 120 servers, half of its features broken or unplayable, and lose 70% of its subscribers and 80% of its servers within the first three months. Then the CEO must be fired, a good amount of the pre-launch plans scrapped, and a cash shop must be put into place.

That way it can be successful. Just like WAR.

Yeah.... uh no. A Beta is a complete game with a few minor issues, it the last stage of testing, it's the testing that makes sure everything is working right, because it's already there. This game is still in Alpha testing and they are talking about launching it soon. 

I'm not even going to mentioned that you have every right in the world to criticize the f' out of a game the moment they start charging you for the game. They have been charging for access for over a year now and it's really in no better condition today, than it was a year ago. 

So, in 4 days when absolutely nothing changes, what are you going to say then? This thread will still be here in 4days.

I would agree with you except for the fact that Jooky has been honest and forthright about the situation and told people what to expect.  People knew this when buying the game, accepted that fact and chose to support the dev's anyways.

What part of the game launches on the 15th aren't you people getting? The majority of options in the game are turned off. Not to mention, this is NOT a triple-A title. Every official review I've seen on this game states that. It is a low budget Indie game... hello!

No, it is not meant for everyone. Hell, its not meant for the majority of players here. However, there is a demographic that will fall absolutely in love with this game. And that is the target market.

People who love The Sims, may love this game.

People who loved SWG Pre-CU (the crafting aspect) will most likely love this game.

People who like full loot pvp, with consiquences, may or may not... the system still needs quite a bit of fleshy out here.

RTS players... may love this game.

 

Who most likely wont?  

People who like simple combat. Push button... fireball types.

People who will not settle for last gen graffics. This is not a Crysis engine game. The graffics are very last gen. I'd say, roughly on par with DAoC a ways back.

 

Some Cons:

Character creation is horrible... its ugly, period.

Chat absolutely sux. No customization, colors are bad, no background for the chatbox etc.... 

Character animations could use a bit of tweaking.

Tooltips, when turned on, need to be worked over.

Game environment, is not current gen graffics.

LAG, server crashes...  this will most definitely carry over past launch. Theres no helping that... it does with even triple-A titles.

No direction: This could go either way, I prefer the open sandbox where players decide how everything happens. (Im an old JumpGate junky)  However, the majority of gamers out there are going to cry tears of blood for those yellow questionmarks in the sky.

 

Some Pros:

Dynamic environment: You can interact with just about everything. The trees, water, stone, the earth, and even the grass under your feet. This is absolutely ground breaking, amazing to me.

Crafting: Ok.. I've never been big on crafting. But theres just something about the way its done here. And from the more experienced crafters... I hear nothing but good things.

Fighting/Hunting/PvP:  Friendly fire is on... I cant begin to tell ya the "Oh Crap!!!" and other words that came out of my mouth as I was taking down a bear with a fellow tribesman, and when he came between me and the bear..  watching him die to my weapon. I had  no idea that friendly fire was on, and I tell ya what.... I LOVE IT. Think before ya swing those axes people!

Full loot pvp: Do I need to say anything?

Realistic looting rules: No, you cant pull an epic sword or ak47 out of the intestines of that deer you just killed. You get skin, bones, hooves... etc. I love the more realistic rules here.

 

I could go on, but at the risk of sounding like a fanboi. And I guess I am to a point, I enjoy the game.. alot.

 

Yeah, Im ranting a bit. But I am doing my best to give you the strait dope on what this game is. If it doesn't sound like what your looking for... DONT BUY IT. Or do, if ya dont mind wasting a few bucks.  Just dont buy it, if all your going to do is come on here and complain. Its pointless, and quite frankly...  irritating as hell.

You've been warned. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.

I did a preliminary review earlier on MMORPG and gave the game a 7.0 -- fun to play now, but with a lot of features turned off, a better score cannot be given.

It is true, the game has no NPC's with "!" over their heads, no NPC's at all, really. There's no in-depth tutorial that walks you through the game, no intro. No questlines, no dungeons, no raids, no instances. It is a sandbox.

This game is not for everyone. But it is fun for many people.

The dev of Xyson was not in control of Roma Victor - he was a CODER/programmer. He is doing a really good job for such a small Indie team. On that note why can a small indie team do a better job than so many mega corp teams? Even Eve and Wow both were really terrible at launch.

This has amazing potential, as a whole.  It was poorly and hastily done, and will suffer tremendously.  Eve has a Niche Base, I played Eve for years, their fans are dedicated and concise in their opinions.  Eve is a complete game.  You won't find things unexplained, lacking tooltips or UI development, or generally leaving people completely in the dark.  The information is right there in the game ready for you to access.

What "Wow formula" are you talking about, anyway?  The formula of success?  Sorry for expecting someone developing a product to have finished it before marketing it.

I won't argue that Xyson might not be complete, the PVP is cerrtainly incomplete, though they do have it.  Your complaint was that if the game lacked tooltips, tutorials and certain UI features that it was incomplete and I'm telling you, strange as it may seem, there's a group of gamers who are looking for exactly that sort of game.

I dislike the fact there's no ingame map/compass system, but other folks don't mind, they like being lost and figuring out for themselves where they are in the world. Not my cup of tea, but who am I to say they are wrong?

You are correct, they did produce the game to make money.  They're just happy to live with a smaller amount of money in order to create the sort fo game they would enjoy playing, something done not often enough in the cash driven world.

Time will tell whether this game will survive or not.  My only point was to disagree with your assessment that it was unplayable (its not) nor not fun (to you, perhaps, others seem to enjoy it)

As I said, its not a bad game.  Howver, it's also not a good game.  It's a classic case of diehard MMO players (like myself) trying to find somewhere to call home, embracing the newest, poorly done, idea.  When you're bored, struggling to find a game to play in your spare time, you'll play ANYTHING.  Thats where Xsyon comes in.

Don't get me started on character creation, where you get to allocate meaningless stat points into a few commonly named places.  I label them as meaningless because there is no way to figure out what each one does, and in game - some are even less obvious then their labels.

Tooltips are not hard to write.  They are not hard to implement, and they are inexcusable not to have in any program, of any kind (except perhaps a calculator) in any production level environment since 1995.  Information is never a bad thing.  Not having these means you're allergic to success and money.

Combat is a mass of poorly animated and designed characters from 1998 swinging wildly without any indication of, well, anything.  Are you hitting?  Are they?  when will either of you die?  What's happening?  Why play a game where you aren't even in reasonable control of your actions.  Swinging wildly at someone hoping you're hitting isn't PVP.  It's luck.  Go to the casio if that's your thing.

Just a terrible all around game, from another company that didn't bother to write up a project plan and pushed out a release far before it was ready.  What another monumental waste of time and development.  Incredible potential.

Do not buy this game.  You were warned.

You know, I was thinking earlier.... what is it about this game that just has me hooked. Its the similarities in spirit to Jump Gate. NetDevil had what... 6 devs when they created JumpGate classic.. and they never gave in to what the majority cried for. The game was never ever, overly successful. But over 10 years later and the server is still online with people paying to play. Does that say anything?

There are alot of similarities here. Sandbox wise.  Of course, these are two completely different settings... but hey, I guess I just love the open sandbox style.. and not just that, it attracts a certain type of community that is a blast to be around.

Thats got to be what it is. =)

I love how everyone references Warhammer, like it's even a part of my title on here for any reason other then MMORPG.com's too lazy to upkeep their writers titles.  Especially since their writers haven't written for a site in over two years.

Warhammer's a POS.  As is this game.  It'll have its LOL'niche' crowd populate its one server for the two month free priod, then it'll get old and die due to bad mechanics and an inferior UI.  I'll be back when that happens to repost here and laugh.

Until then, enjoy that new car smell on the mmo of the week while you build your cities and swing wildly at each other and call it 'pvp'.  I got my $40 back.  You should too, but hey, my opinion is wrong apparently. {mod edit}

Everything is turned off, and the server still runs as if it was on a 386 half the time..

It's really too bad, the game was mighty interesting.. But they are going the way of Earthrise so far, and that bad launch was nasty enough for me!

Right, so the launch date is on the 15th...they have 3 days to figure out why so many game features make the game lag, even the fanbois are getting pissed at the unannounced 2nd wipe after they all placed their totems. 

These sort of problems take AAA games months to sort out. Ten guy dev. team with barely any experience except for a failed MMO title from one of the coders? Goooooood luck with that....

e.g. Age of Conan also sucked at launch, but it was created by a big and experienced team and after about a year and a half+expansion they managed to finally produce a game worth playing. 

 

So as much as I would love Xsyon to succeed because I'm a huge fan of sandbox crafting games and have played major titles for months and even years (Wurm Online, A Tale in the Desert, Haven and Hearth to name a few), I'm afraid so far all the signs are showing that the game will not be doing well once the free two months expire and once everyone realizes that it's not worth subbing for.

 

Unfortunately, there is a very big chance that the game will fail in two months after the launch and despite good ideas and an interesting world, it just won't have enough players interested in paying for it in the long term.
