Originally posted by Xasapis Who's generalising? I was talking about the millions of WoW/EQ players that have already seen that kind of gameplay and are getting bored of it. Wasn't referring to just the people currently playing RIft. |

Originally posted by Deto123 Are you new on these boards? They are practicaly filled wit threads claiming that the game is "same old, same old". It doesn't matter whether it's true or not. And yes, lots of people will love the game and thus to them it wil be amazing. It's as natural as for people to get bored by it. What you'll notice on these boards is an absense of threads that claim how the game fooled them or the developers tricked people with promised features that were not there and so on. The game delivers fully on what it promises. It may not be enough for some people. It may be boring for others. But for a change, somebody delivered the full feature list that was promised. It was certainly a while since we saw that happening. |

Yeah I agre with alot of the posters here as well. Its too easy for me and Im a casual gamer (7 hours a week about). Theres no strategy so far and the lack of meaningful PvP doesnt spice up the combat experience. Its a well polished amusement park though. Just Im looking for somehting more engaging. Have fun in rift, heres hoping they ramp up the world PvP. |

Originally posted by cinos I've played WoW in the past. I've already seen WoW's gameplay to its fullest. Rift offers a different experience with many familiar elements. You are generalising, unless you think that "most" people are the closed circle of friends you have. |

I gave up WoW when I played after the Burning Crusade and I never got higher than 64 so I do not have any problems with Rift reminding me of it . I enjoy Rift and still am playing it and having fun. I guess I am lucky to have found a game I enjoy and that seems to be heavily populated. I feel sorry for those of you who are still looking or have no more room for these games.

Originally posted by Xasapis So you deny that most (yeah I said it again) MMO players have not already played games similar to Rift? Do you deny that these people would logically like to see something new rather than the same old, same old? That is all I am saying. I would have thought that would have been clear from my original statement. I'm not looking to get into an argument with you, despite your attempts to start one. You like the game, good for you. This is a thread discussing the reason why people are getting bored and I added my point. Maybe instead of dismissing other peoples opinions because they differ from yours you should try actually lending something to the conversation? Like for instance, what is this different experience that keeps you from being bored, that myself and certainly the op have clearly missed? |

Fun is where you choose to find it. If you're bored change it up or change games. I was exploring yesterday and thought I was about to find some unfinished area after walking up a steep ledge to a remote peak between zones but instead found a blue artifact sitting up there. |

I agree, this is a thread on bored people. How many will be bored is yet to be seen since, as I said the first month is not over yet. It pays to be cautious and don't make grand claims on how "most" people are bored. Do you know why most games made follow the same formula? Because people are not bored by it. I hope somebody somehow proves that people love MMOs with different features that what we've been getting lately, but so far the players have been punishing innovation to obliviion, while the "clones" still live and make money. Even the ones on life support. |

Originally posted by Xasapis I didn't say that most people playing rift were bored. I said this: "It represents the best of what the old style of MMO has to offer, and unfortunately most have already 'been there, done that' and want something different." That doesn't translate as most are bored, just that most have seen it all before. Also the reason why most games (at least in this genre) follow the same formula is because one game was released at the right place at the right time and made a fortune. Nearly every company since then has been trying to replicate that success, and only now are they beginning to realise that what happened with WoW was a fluke. It's the reason why the MMO has not really evolved in the last 6-7 years. Since the majority of games released into it have just been variations of a theme. However we seem to be moving off topic now, so I suggest we end it here and not derail the thread any further. :) |

Originally posted by Xasapis Not true at all. While every game out there has people who get bored from playing them, the reason for the OP is that its a large case of "been there, done that before". Take a game like EVE and you'll never find anyone who thought to themselves, man, this sure feels like game "XYZ" that I've been playing for the past 7 years. It is possible to design a game that does not feel like the standard MMO model currently embraced by a majority of the Developement houses out there today but rarely will you find it outside of a smaller title. Why is it in MMO's when games are alike or similar its a bad thing but Call of Duty can release 8 games that are pretty much the same and its the coolest damn thing since sliced bread? Seriously, reading some of these "Rift is like ____ games" complains are hilarious. Its like complaing that COD, Halo, Gears of War and Battlefield are the same because you run around a map and shot things. The OP is not bored in Rift because its like WOW. That is the most ridiculous reason I have ever read. The OP is bored because he is bored with the genre. It does not matter if its Rift, WOW, Aion, STO, CO, LOTRO - the best thing for him to do is take a break from MMO's for a good while and play something different. For most WOW players that liked WOW and played it and enjoyed it like a game and not a second job, Rift is a breath of fresh air. Its familiar and fun but a new world to explore. |

Ultima online is a ghost town and Rift is not using LOTRO's engine. |

I like Rift a lot as well, but I am pretty sure I am just bored of MMO's in general. Cancel your accounts for awhile, go buy DA2/ME2 or New Vegas. Some people may not agree with me but DA2 is pretty awesome. Plus playing consoles for a few months always invigorates me to go back to MMOs such as WOW/EQ2/ and now a new favorite, Rift. Sadly, besides EQ2 and its dated graphics none of the other choices offer player housing which to me, is a whole nother reason to play an MMO. |

Originally posted by creedgaming "LOTRO uses the G3 engine made by Turbine, an updated version of the G2 engine used for AC2. This does not mean that LOTRO will be like AC2: the engine itself is a generic toolset to build the game and contains no concepts (as best as possible) for a specific game rule set, form of combat or look-and-feel. Also tools like Maya for 3D modeling , Photoshop Pro (textures), Worldbuilder, MS Visio and even MS Excel are used. Turbine is also a listed user of Havok, an engine to create realistic physics, and "Granny", a tool for creating avatars, but we do not know if they are used for LOTRO." Rift is using the Gamebryo engine for the client while the backend was build from the ground up. So no, Rift is not using LOTRO's engine. By the way, welcome to the MMOPRGs, where every game is an evolution of a game that came before it. |
