in a perfect world all those things could work. if only technology was better than it is now we could immerse ourselves completely and have all the great wants. unfortunately this isnt a perfect world. i am about to play eve and i just would like to know if there are any other mmorpgs that are good besides wow and gw or w/e. i am mainly a console player and i love the story driven games alot, but hate the lack of freedom with what i can do in the universe. is eve a good game for that? or is there any other games out there for me? I've played Eve off and on for almost four years now. Its a fun game made by a great company(CCP). BUT, Eve is pretty much what you make of it. From what I'm told, the PvP side is fun. But I've never left high security space, and just run missions and mine once in a while. There are many more missions now than a couple of years back, and they are adding more story line missions. |

You guys often write a bunch tripe, but this is a pretty good article. Even though I wish Darkfall all the best, and it has its place because many people do enjoy it for its FPS-PvP-24/7 style, it is most definitely not a sandbox. A sandbox does not exclude non-PvP playstyles. It is immersive and should allow a player to just 'live' in the world without being forced to grind/compete. It can still be in the form of a conquest MMO but the game design needs to inherently benefit community builders more than destroyers purely because there are so many fewer people that are able to create/build. |

After reading I really felt the urge to play "Ultima Online" and "SWG" again. Sandbox game or but those games really gave me the sandbox feeling. The freedom you had there was the best in my opinion. Most mmorpg have a player driven economie, but on SWG for example you could really influence this with for example rare/unique mine spawns and top of the line items. |

Very Nice article, it really feels like someone took all my posts over the past 10 years from everyone on the net, cleaned that up and better prhrased it and then posted it. Everything said in it are points which I myself share, this thread should serve as a guide to new and future Devellopers who have never experienced all these things back in the days of UO. Excelent Read! :) |
