"Will Underwater Combat Suck?"
Only if you're a Fire Elementalist. |

Fire Ele becomes Steam Ele, and there was much rejoicing.
Underwater will be pretty awesome imo, I'm glad they've chosen to redo many (all?) abilities to work properly underwater.
And to drowning whiners. You can breathe water if it has enough oxygen in it. Water in Tyria has a higher O2 content than water on Earth. Fixed. Would also fix the fire ele problem too :p |

I've played two MMOs with underwater combat: EQ and DAoC. It sucked in both of them. |

Going slightly off topic... Modern guns do work underwater, you just have to remove any air-bubbles in the barrel before firing or else you could end up with a back-fire. Revolvers work best underwater. Flint-lock type... never would they work underwater. Bows also works under water, but the range is severely impaired because of the drag on the fletching, and any curvature on the arrow would send it into an unpredictable trajectory.
Given the industry's past examples of underwater/3-dimensional combat (flying), I have to have reservations about it. But given that this is Anet, I will remain cautiously optimistic. |

from everything that I've heard, the underwater combat is so great that you're going to want to buy a bigger bathtub. People are going to start GW2 LARP at swimming pools. People will wear scuba-gear to work on casual dress day. Kids will pass up on getting nose-rings and get "gill" tattoo's instead. People will sell t-shirts that read "I fought leviathan and all I got was this crummy t-shirt" All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

@Loke666 that's the second time you referenced the jellyfish, I think someone is looking forward to that pet :) Most games do get underwater movement wrong, sluggish, difficult to control and one eye on the timer never made a good experience, really hoping Anet get it right or at least much better. I'm really hoping to see some in the next demo. |

Same as in WOW; as an engineer you could make a helmet thingy to gain permanent underwater time. Alternatively cast spells / use pots, etc. Could be something like that I suppose, they'll just make it easy to get I think. |
