The reason RIFT has bad community at the moment, is because it's a open beta on a pay to play game. People are bored, they want something to do. Probably 1/12th of the people on rift RIGHT NOW will not play the game. All those people flaming general chat won't stay. Those who do like RIFT will stay. I mean, p2p games don't have betas like this, where it is so easy to get on and play.

When someone enters the game for the first time and makes an innocent comment that this game is similar to WoW at least 5 others starts to make deragatory coments about him in CAPS, like "I WANT TO D...E ON YOUR GRAVE!!!!!!!!!!!"

I played on 6 different servers, its all the same, and those ppl are here as well.I made a post here that the game is fun for a short time, it is polished and bug free but I found it shallow and I will not purchase the game.After 7 pages of totally immature comments the mods locked up the page! Some posters even accused of me being some kind of a secret agent for WoW trying to ruin RIFT! btw I did play WoW in beta, I was on the fence but I ended up not buying the game...

Let me get this straight... After all that has transpired over the last few months, with *rabid* fan boys and haters running a Crusade against each other,  you should some how be immune, when you make a WoW remark in general chat?...

At this point there is NO such thing as an "innocent" comment about WoW, its like waving a bright red flag in front of a bull, or a bloody steak in front of a tiger.  I suspect the hysteria level will start to fade out in a couple of months.  But until then, unless you are trolling, or want to start a flame war, its just not wise to open that topic. ^^

As I've stated, I like Rift and enjoy it.  Thats good enough for me. I'm not looking for the One True Game(tm), but I wish all of you who are the very best of luck.

I am mortal, my time is limited and life is too precious to waste it in places with unfriendly people. So while in past years I was more willing to "fight over things", debate all over and taking all bad manners, I decided from today I will avoid such places.

Maybe you think about this one time.

the game is like a dumb blonde..  Great to look at but nothing whatsoever upstairs...  The lights are on but  there's no-one home!!

The only thing is where do you drawl the line at a comment vs the  lineat trying to start a riot.  Some folks are more tolerante of comments than others.

It just depends.. I personally have had nothing but helpful encounters , decent converstions and a few good natured quips in RIFT chat. It just really depends on many factors. The facts are...some people have a bad time....some people have a shitty time....some people don't notice...some people don't care. I expect to have negative encounters in the future...because it's always a mixed bag no matter what MMO I play( and I've played many)...no matter the population.

You guys must realize that WoW players are sick of WoW and they are checkin out  Rift. Hopefully they will move on after Beta and return to WoW and the community will be better at release.

Sadly I doubt it cause like I said .. WoW players hate WoW cause it sucks beyond belief,,,rather they want to believe it or not..

But judging a game in BETA is moronic beyond belief

perhaps one should just go back to WoW and remain

To be honest if you are allowing chat and trolls to ruin your experience then you probably shouldn’t be playing mmo's. Its one thing if you can hear the person but if you are getting upset about people posting hurtful and non-helpful things you need to just find it out for yourself. playing an mmo alone defeats the whole purpose of the game. ATM Rift is free you don’t have to pay for it or subscribe to it. Once that actually has to happen the people who find it funny to try to ruin a game will for the most part go away. So honestly if it upsets you that bad don’t play it. simple as that.

 OP you will find mean and inpolite people whereever you go, that just seems to be how human nature is.  Overtime I have come to realize how selfish , inconciderate, and rude people are.  Just from talking to people, and listening to them talking bad about everyone they know. It's always ME, Me, Me.  Just the way it is.  Even if it seems like a person is trying to do an act of kindness , usually it all comes back to something they are doing for themselves.

I am not surprised there are asses in the chat channels.  In most gaming communities you find the occassional ass. More so in others. This game is in beta, hopefully all the nasty people revealing their true forms through the internet, will all leave when it comes time to have to buy the game and sub.

I didn't even bother to pre-order, so I guess I saved a step from cancelling.

I see no value at all in this game.

Wrong.

Judging a game in beta is 100% valid, considering:

A.) You are paying for that game in a few days time when it goes live, which means that unless you believe in 'Miracle Mega-Revamp Patches'  that all of these game fanboys preach in betas (along with the tooth fairy),

B.) That is the game you are getting for the first few months.

Free open beta = free to troll chat channels.

Pro tip - never credit a game for their public chat channels during a beta event.

In all the random dungeon groups I've formed or joined, the guild I helped form to test the guild UI features, even most of the Warfront groups and Invasion raids I've found nothing but friendly, well behaved, and helpful people.

Measuring community is IMPOSSIBLE - different on each server, each faction, each region etc.

That being said, the chat channels were horrible. /leave 1-9 channel is the first thing you should do. 

Way too many free loaders and "testers" with nothing productive to say other then to troll and flame each other.

That being said, once the game DOES go live anyone who actually buys the game and spends their time trolling and flaming other people in the public chat channels is simply a pathetic moron.

/ignore will be used. All will prosper. 

Vote with your wallet - pay to play and cut the crap or move along and shut up about it on forums like these.

I for one plan on reporting people who troll/flame the public chat channels on release - that kind of behavior should not be allowed in game, or on the official forums. period. 

Constructive criticism is a concept so terribly foreign to so many internet wanna-be's it's astounding.

I see SO many of the same people every day on these Rift forums, people who you can easily tell have absolutely zero chance of buying and playing the game at release... I honestly have to ask - what's the point? Get over yourselves. 

Vote with your wallet and shut the hell up. No one cares. Not about my opinion, and certainly not about yours.

No like any other MMO it doesn't suck people are just tired of the status quo regardless if you can wrap your head around that fact or not. And you act as if everyone from WoW is like this while any popular MMO will have the people that open mouth before thinking which I think you tend to do a lot, you also have your other players. And from your rabid responses across other boards saying stuff like "RIFT IS GREAT WOW IS FOR ASSHATS" you sure are promoting your community a lot different than what you speak against huh? Pot meet kettle. 

And if Rift offers more of a polished product than WoW, than you will have to deal with what WoW will lose and good riddence. Also judging a game this late in the BETA yes you can get at least from a gameplay/enviroment standpoint good standing of the game and if you are going to enjoy it.

YOU may be tired of the status quo, many on these specific forums may be tired of the status quo, but there are millions of players who like games like WoW and Rift and LOTRO etc. etc. and they will keep playing them.

Don't get confused as to think a minority opinion is anything more then it is.

We live in a very fortunate time where there are dozens of quality titles available for MMO fans to enjoy. There is a lot of variety and a lot of competition.

I just think the "status quo haters" are just upset because their titles don't receive the same level of funding and support and as such polish and resources as the more mainstream titles. I call it the "hipster conundrum."

Really then why the uproaring from everyone to say this is sooo much different than WoW? And really millions of players like WoW? No kidding that's why their sub base is so high. I have no problem with WoW Rift or LOTOR actually sub to WoW and testing a couple other MMOs. And if you think it's a minority that people are sick of the status quo look at how many games in the past 4 years have touted to be the better thing than WoW, even with Rift saying "We're not in Azeroth Anymore" they are trying to change the status quo. And don't get Casual MMOers confused with the customer base of actual MMO's cause they flock to the next shiny thing like a magpie.
