You got a fair point here. Yes, the developers made a game world where FFA PvP with full loot is possible. They didn't intend to make a PvP-centric game, but all things considered, it might be that is just what they have done. Thus they shouldn't be surprised that they get players that like this type of gameplay. Hmm, might be that Xsyon will be the next sandbox attempt that fails because of FFA PvP with full loot. For the time being I still very much enjoy my time in the game, I don't mind being ganked so now and then. :) |

Ideally, we would have one well balanced world, where most PVP is friendly sparring (not resulting in death) and where evil players really feel like game 'monsters' but with better, unpredictable AI. This is a quote directly from Jooky on his vision and what he wanted PvP to be in Xsyon. Anyone who has an idea that it was in anyway different than this is not reading wht he has stated himself. That being said, anyone who now plays Xsyon, and is trying to scream and kick and change the game to something other than this will just have to fight with Jooky to change his vision of his game. But make no doubt about it, the ONLY person your going to be fighting with on changing this vision is him. No amount of bitching about it in global chat while in the game is going to accomplish anything but make the people playing hate you. If you feel this vision of Jooky's is wrong I suggest you go to the official Xsyon forums and make a thread and communicate with him about how you feel he is wrong. I'm sure he would love to hear about it. But the OP is right on this thread, it is getting WAY out of hand on the global chat already. If you have an issue with the PvP focus, use the forums, not global.

I gotta agree with the OP too; the constant "PvP or not" debate is giving me a headache while I'm playing Xsyon (that, and the red text against the snow of course). To me, the discussion is utterly pointless. I'm no hardcore PvPer by any means - I recently left another "sandbox" game because it focused to heavily on PvP, and came to Xsyon because I was looking for more sandbox tools rather than more warfare. However, I fail to comprehend the "hardcore carebear" mindset sometimes. The silliest argument in my opinion is the idea that PvPers "force their playstyle" upon others, thus making the game less of a sandbox. This would be true if attacking other players required some kind of cheating, but it doesn't; it's part of the game design. So no one is forcing anything upon you - you chose to play a game featuring free-for-all PvP with full loot. The game also features gathering, crafting, architecture, and tribe building. Does that mean the carebears are forcing their playstyle upon the PvPers by hiding inside their tribal areas, crafting away where they can't be killed? Another silly, or rather uninformed, argument, is that all PvPers are immature, antisocial idiots. This usually goes together with the cries about "ganking" or "griefing", usually coming from someone who just got killed. First of all, PvP is not the same as griefing. Griefers are usually not even PvPers; they just enjoy making other people miserable, and PvP is a much too limited tool for that. And as for ganking, well... see above. The game features free-for-all PvP, you bought it, you play it, you should expect to get killed some time. And PvP is not about "fair fights", it's about winning. Numbers, better gear, superior tactics, better reflexes - anything goes as long as it's allowed by the game mechanics. If you got ganked, get good. Team up with others, get some help, find ways to avoid killers, whatever. If you run around in the middle of nowhere, unarmed and alone in your best bone suit, encumbered by rare goods, it's your own fault if you lose your stuff. The game caters to more than one playstyle, and seems to strike a fairly good balance between safety and risk. I don't think anyone playing Xsyon want it to be a 100% PvP game like MO or DFO, but in my opinion it will never be, even if we'll see more PvP in the future. Why? Because Xsyon has so many sandbox features - it already has more of them than MO and DFO combined, and it hasn't even launched yet. If there are lots of things to do besides PvP, killing others will not be the sole focus of the majority of the playerbase. |

I have seen many hardcore PvPers use this exact argument. Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls. |

Originally posted by Joliust the entire arguement of 'you joined a FFA PVP game Therefore you know what your getting into' as an arguement for any and all imagianable pvp as well as constant conversation about it is just silly. its not a FFA PVP game, FFA PVP is a FEATURE in the game. But clearly for some people the single feature of FFA PVP gives them such a woody they completely overlook that the game has other features and consider FFA PVP a 'meta type' of game but its not. Most PvE 'carebears' really dont give a rats a$$ if PvP folks hunt each other down on the server, most of us know that grieving is rarely a major issue. what I think we tire of to be honest is just the constant talk about it and the stupid player names like 'TotalPwnage'. Just give it up guys we dont care but if you are welcome to play on the server anyway. does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |
