 Archeage.

Where do you find info on this game? From the company website I don't see what makes this game a sandbox? Is there a better info source out there? Ugh.. it would have to be one hell of a sandbox game for me to play with elves, especially a Korean game.

Archeage-online.com I think is the official sight, won't let me link for some reason. Anyways the game has all the sandbox elements, town building, making your own faction, territory warfare, classless system, player driven economy where most stuff is crafted etc. It's a Fantasy game which i'm not the biggest fan of but oh well. Oh and it has ship building and navel warfare, and apparently different people have to steer, row, be the lookout, operate cannons, operate the sales etc. PVP isn't open, well sort of, on 2 of the continents you can only kill people on the other faction. But on the Third continent which is the biggest one where all the clan vs. Clan territory warfare takes place it's open.

It's being made by Jake Song the guy who was involved with Aion and Lineage 2, both very grind-tastic games however apparently he wasn't a proponent of those aspects while helping make those games and this game I heard is trying to completely get away from that. I forget where I heard that but maybe if you look around you can find where he said that. Apparently it's being beta-tested in Korea and alot of people are complaining essentialy that there's not enough grind since they are so used to Korean grinders lol. The maker Jake Song made the first ever MUD so probably sees how far the mmorpg genre has gone down hill. The game has a reported 25 million dollar budget according to Wikipedia and Song has said many times in interviews that the biggest inspiration for the game is oldschool UO. He's a very experienced developer with a big budget not some little indie developer doing there first work. As for your question as to weather the game will release there, I have not heard specific statements as to where it will launch but Song said that the West is there biggest market and the one they will target.

Here are some gameplay vids, sadly it has some of that cutesy Asian Anime style for characters, but it's not too overdone so it's fine I guess, but the graphics sure are awesome.

One thing about Archeage that's strange is that there is no page for it on this site despite many people asking for one and talking about it in general discussion including this huge thread here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/301794/page/1

Apparently the game uses the Cry 2 engine from Crysis with a full physics system and destructable terrain. And a map editing system that allows you to create, save, and sell maps and be a cartographer shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1mwU14-a3Y.

And also I messed up the budget, appearently the game has a contract for 50-60 million and is the second most expensive Korean game ever besides Aion.

I cant believe your stil at it Mako. You have some obsession with Earthrise.

Ok let me start by explaining how your comparison to APB is complete shit. First off APB had a much hgher development cost and had WAY more money invested then Earthrise does. APB paid allot of money for the use of the game engine itself. they decided to cut their losses quickly when they saw they werent going to get a refund on their investment.

Earthrise on the other hand made their own engine and as you could tell from playing the game obvuiously had a much lower development cost. They also sold the engine for use on the Fallout MMO wich generates income. This game should stay afloat for awhile.

But i do agree if they dont do things quickly with this game it could get ugly for the players. The game world is so huge and actually done very nicely it would be ashame not to have anyone playing in it.

WoW, that's actually a first Asian MMO except L2 which catches my attention...and some of its game features, interesting.

Yea Archage defiantly is one of the games i'am looking out for.. I just dont think it'll release this year though.. The naval combat is a marvel and seriously is something i've never seen done before; where each shipcrew mans their own equipment.. Shooting the cannons looks like it'd be the job for me!

In game durning the beta one of the GM's said that they where looking for between 20k and 30k subscriptions. That at that point the game would be doing good and be semi profitable.

At the rate things are going and the lack of patchs (quality patchs) and information from the devs, I really dont see the game sticking around for too long. Maybe 6 months if enough people buy the game.

They knew about the lag and preformance issues over 2 months ago and they kept saying that there would be a patch at release that fixs it. Now release has come and gone and the lag and preformance issues have only gotten worse as more people are getting in the game.

If they couldnt fix the issues in 2 months time then how are we to expect they are ever going to be fixed?

Although server side patches that do things like increase performance and fix some bugs dont require you to download anything, wich might lead people to believe nothing is being done at all so far. But i'm still not impressed so far even though its only been a week. Many issues are still around since Beta. Hopefully they get it together.

Thats a developer chat from like today with the producer.

I think it speaks volumes that they really have no ideal what is going on, nor are they listening to people.  Just like the holding down alt (or whatever key it was) to attack friendlies. There answer was No, we have no plans to make it a toggle even though everone wants it to be. We dont want people to accidently shoot friendlies.

I really like the server location question. Even though the server has been traced and pointed to exactly the same location it was during beta. There answer was that its moved, even though it still trace routes and appears to be in the same location and even has the same preformance as the beta server did.

There where several people doing traces and such an posting on the offical forums. One guy ran a packet sniffer in the background to catch the information and it showed the exact same server ip's that was being used for the beta client.

Pull the green cord...

my thing is that if they don't have trials available by now then they're hurting, and may not last the year as a pay to play mmorpg. that being said i think mortal online is still going and that game seems to be in more dire shape then earthrise.

Life is what you make it

so please make life good for me - im counting on you

That is a question thats just too difficult to answer right now, with most sandboxes on release they are utter garbage, but then some how they seem to pull a blinder on the community and become vastly popular after a couple of years or so.

Earthrise is not fit for purpose in its current state but thats not to say in a few months to a years time it wont become another EVE but on the ground.

Im gonna keep an eye on it and watch it grow.

My prediction that this project will last another 2-3 months untill they starve for income, and they will starve because in 3 months not many people will be back to this game.

What do you think?

I think you have no clue what your talking about. The game is awesome, if you look beyond the performance issues. Once fixed this game will flourish. It has a couple of things no other mmo has done well recently

Awesome indepth, technical crafting system with links into a player driven economy

Great scifi landscape, enviroment , lore

Deep deep player customisation

The devs have a road map up to the middle of the year, looking forward to the growth and developemnt of what is for me the best sandbox out there currently on the market.

Happy for folks to say the games shit or not oging to last because everybody entitled to their opinion however this game feels very much like SWG, EvE, DF and others that have started rough and gone on to good things.
