To me it did for the most part, but until I started taking a closer look at what SOE had done and noticed that they didn't do anything different again. now I know its hard to come up with new ways to get players to do missions which is ok I'm fine with that (for now), but what isn't hard to do is giving players an alternative to collecting gear. after all isn't this suppose to be a super heroe game I mean where are the innate super defenses like invulnerablity or some kind of skin toughness that raises your Defense Rating say by 750 per power pt. that would have been a good start.

Now I did expect pvp in DCUO to be like out of the comics in some ways but it didn't, to me its to much the same as other games you know dry with no real threat to one another other than damaging each others armor up, so DCUO did kind of turned out what I expected it to be - an action based MMO with gear being the main prize.

Sadly, it did.

RIFT - You're not in Azeroth anymore. Oh hey, would you mind throwing this net on 10 of those squirrels over there? (Yes, that is an actual quest).

Turned out even better than i expected.

When i first made my character i was surprised that not only could i make it how i wanted it to be but even more. Of course i know not everyone has been able to have that same experience.

There are plenty of problems with the game but in general its fun as hell.

Its gonna need lots of content updates.

Perhaps that in a year or so the game will be worth playing, but right now this is just the same old crap we always get with a new combat system.. Very dissapointing game.

Thats not to say i didn't have a blast for a week or so, but after that i just didn't see the point in playing anymore.. Low level cap, repetitive questing, and collectables and races are only a very minor distraction.

Healing was done really badly as well in my opinion.

This is my personal opinion and I am by no means saying this game will be bad for everyone, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

In my mind i bought DCUO to cross over the time that Rift is being released.

I was right and got bored with DCUO, so I am ready for Rift:)

You simply cannot do every single piece of daily content available unless you have the day off of work or school.

As repetitive as it is there is an insane amount of stuff to do in the game.

I expect and want more content and if the game doesnt get content updates pretty often then yeah it will suck, but as it is now its pretty cool.

It doesn't seem to me that it is worth the game purchase and sub.  Just not enough content there.

It was almost comical to read the amount of "reviews" written by players that had one or more characters at max level and had experienced the majority of the game already simply gloss over that fact when discussing other points.  That was a rather glaring concern to me.  Considering the other issues can be fixed, but if you're lacking content from the beginning with your game how in the hell are you ever going to have enough over the long haul?  I just don't see this game having a very good retention rate at all least for now.  Just seems like as is the norm with most launches this was pushed out the door way too soon.

/shrug

Maybe I'm in the minority.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Seriously though, DCUO was totally fun at first. It was new and I had fun with it. Then came the broken things and most of all the ever so emphasis on the "gear grind". The game needs lots of work...

I didn't go in with much in the way of expectations (a sure future let down for me). I like the game alot so I guess it was better than I expected as not much interests me anymore. It  does suit my playstyle in that I can solo, join in on the bounty kills, die as much as I want without much penalty, immerse myself endlessly with different characters and basically set the difficulty by what powers and skills I choose. Plus I can get lots of weapons (or looks) by learning what drops where.

I have no idea how the masses will take to the game and I really don't care other than I'd like the game to last but I do see the game chasing away those with no patience and/or short attention spans or the need to play an easy-mode mmo. 3 thumbs up.

For me the game was great at first, got to 30 easy enough, graphics were amazing and gameplay was amazing, but on my second 30 I started realizing how repetative it was, than from the other 30s I realized how little effort was put into creating the episodes.

When they announced each episode before release it sounded like they would each be a real adventure. They made it sound like taking down The Joker would be like Batman would, like you have to solve some puzzles, maybe beat a timed bomb accross the city, stuff like that. But when it came down to do they were all the same, if you put neutral enemies in the episodes you cant tell Bane from The Joker, the game is great to start but in reality its an MMO disguised with some action and ruined by repetativeness. Plus I spent YEARS collecting gear in EQ and WoW, why would I want ANOTHER game where all there is to do is collect gear???

It was better than i expected. Not exactly what i wanted but fun none the less.IF it grows (adds more power sets costume /gear) etc its a good go to action game.Since its part of my station acess i dont pay 15 a month for it.Id guess tho in 3 months we wil see how much content bug fixs etc they do.

I was bit worried when one of the eq devs left eq for dcuo dev post. But looks like he hasnt made the game unplayable.Where as eq seems to be better since hes gone.Least some of the classes i play.

But ya they need to add invul as a power set.An wheres the elastic/plastic man power sets that were talked about? An if their smart before summer they will have willpower greenlatern set out.Hopefuly before the movie.

One of the things that surprised me on likeing so much was acrobatics .Best movement power ,more true to comics that i have seen.Great fun.Tho flight animations i still like city of heroes better. But they are two very difrent games.

Sadly it was exactly what I thought it would be:

A console Action/adventure game.

I went in expecting a game like Co or COH, and probably a bad version of those games because it's SOE.

I found a very fun diversion with combat that's fun and new for MMOs.

More then i expected. I had pretty much written this game off before launch when I got a beta invited FFXIV had totally failed and i figured give it a shot. I had a lot of fun in beta and pre ordered the CE. Loving it so far. I'm at 30 on a few characters and still having fun.

I didn't have many expectations, as I only heard of the game relatively close to launch. I would have prefered if they didn't seperate the servers by plattform, but other than that I got what I wanted.

As another poster said I really wish the severs for PS3 and PC weren't split but other than that I'm having fun. One of my favorite things is the fact that instead of just the normal gear grind in games like WoW there are the feats which is a means of leveling and improving your toon beyond the 30 cap. The passives from the weapon tree's and the fact that you can continue to get skill points after you can no longer level really makes a difference.

The action based gameplay and more action based missions and such seal the deal. In the end, I'm very happy with DCUO. Was getting pretty tired of the exact same formula being used for just about every MMO lol.

Looking forward to adding GW2 to the mix so that I'm back up to running 2 MMO's again.

Having experienced SoE before and considering recentish releases like Aion, Champions and STO, which sort of took the genre nowhere, DCUO is actually much much better than it was reasonble to expect. The game is a lot more responsive and immersive than I anticipated, the generic mmo elements are there and the content like those other titles is very lite but the presentation and integration of theme and IP is far better than any other mmo of my experience. As a result of the conviction behind the 'universe' the game ends up more than the sum of its parts, its fun in a way you don't expect of an mmo. There are many mmos with more content and more things to do...but few if any ever feel as engaging or genuinely fun... mmoers seem a very intrasigent lot, masochistic almost in their need to fuel an addiction to a sterile grind for grinds sake so DCUO is a bit of a change, the grind is there but its not demanded its optional, it will improve your character but not beyond all recognition, the experience is getting a rare priority over the perpetual grind so in that regard there is some real alternative for players at last (unless the whingers force the game to conform to those 'staples' in order for a quick fix on content).
