Hey all,

I'm going to be doing a Sandbox Challenge for my blog and I am looking to put together a list of Sandbox games which I will then play through. I'm focusing mainly on MMO' s but will consider others as well. Must be fantasy, historical, or science fiction.

This is what I have so far. Let me know of anything I may have missed,

Out of the lot to save you time i'll recommend:

Darkfall - Only reason im not playing is because its too time consuming.

Mortal - Maybe 3 months later when they fix it it will be decent.

Eve - Im considering resubbing

UO - But only if you find a good freeshard

Mount and Blade: Warband - Go on forum and download CRPG mod, its a lot better then standard Warband, im currently playing and still loving it.

Minecraft - Decent game.

Elder Scrolls IV - I will come back to it when i finish playing GTA4 :)

You could add Fallen Earth to that list.

I Don't see any true sandbox games there.  All just themeparks with a sandbox in small quantitys.

Second Life maybe?

Second Life is out though- focussing on historical, fantasy, or science fiction. I get enough real life....in real life, and to be honest real life is a bit grindy and I'm having a lot of trouble trying to roll an alt ;)

I really like the idea of Xsyon but bit leary of indy companies.

Eve though is top notch as far as sandbox games go.

 You check out my posts about Xsyon on that forum. However, I have spent three days trying to craft or trade or beg for a saw or pliers but while there are peps in game no one wants to help me out or trade so needless to say...yawn. Tried to go take one but PvP is so completely hilariously fail that I literally beat on a guy with an axe for a good minute while he did emotes...yawn. I think Xsyon has great potential however i would wait on it for a few months at least, right now after a few days it is a yawnfeast.

Oh! Oh! Xsyawn! :)

Now Eve is top notch....but then people been spam blogging Eve for years.

One person cannot experience all of those games.

One person can play them all a little bit and think that they know how to play those games.

You are looking at a lifelong commitment since there is no end in sandbox games.

But since you are willing to spend the rest of your life playing all of those games through I would definitely recommend the following starting with the best:

Darkfall

Like other sandbox games there is no end. I've been playing for 2 years and have seen 70% of the map. My character is no where near complete.

That one is a must for adrenaline.

Crap.

No time for anything else.

On the side during ego-repair I would play:

Mount and Blade. EVE. Elder scrolls IV.

If it was sandbox games only that is how I would do it. The other games arent nearly as fun to watch so I wouldn't want to blog about them even if I enjoy them. You can do so many fun blogs with those games above though so make those priorities.

Seriously these are the only ones to blog. If you can handle going back to UO 2D world or MO paid-alphabeta I would enjoy reading about it. I wouldn't be interesting in reading about the others at this time. Maybe other people would want to read about those other games though?

Its too time consuming to experience them all though. You shouldn't do it. lol

Thanks- except for the making fun of my name bit- I appreciate the input. I won't be wasting my life, however, as I've set specific rules, etc regarding play time. My goal is not to become the best at the games (as that would take too much time) or play 'through' them, but to play all of them to get the flavor.  In any case, if you're really interested you can check out my blog in the couple weeks when I will be starting this. Simply gathering information at the moment.

I was going to add Face of Mankind but did a quick look at the forum topics and there seems to be a lot of negativity regarding this game- is it worth a look, does anyone know? Remember I'd only be trying for 20 hours or so, not a life-time sub :)

How about Arch Age.  Just put 'in development'  next to it.

 Imo, if you're only gonna sub for a week or so, it's not worth it. The game is very complex, and it takes somewhere around a month or 2 to go anywhere in that game.

Hey, I'll add anything that comes out the the bottom of that list (such as Salem), no problem! I try to keep an eye out for upcoming games.
