From what I've seen so far this game could potentially be good. There are some things I wanted to know about it that are not clearly answered anywhere that i have found so far. Maybe you know, maybe nobody (even the devs themselves) don't even know. I'll ask anyway: 1. Will there be any open alpha or beta testing? or will this be another "pre-order only" alpha/beta? 2. How complicated will the game be? Will we see the usual lame and boring "kill 10 rats" quests or will we actually need to think to complete tasks in this game? 3. What is the user interface going to be like? The game looks like it should have something similar to Assassin's Creed's 3rd person interface (with first person for "eagle vision"). However I have a bad feeling it will be another crappy FPS hybrid system and fail bigtime like most MMORPGs that try that interface. (FPS is great for shooters but in RPG games it is awful for melee, AOE mages and any social interactions) I know the game is about secrets and cryptic things but the devs don't have to be that way with releasing details about the game. |

They have been withholding info since 2007 to make sure that what they tell the market, is whats gonna happen. Also, then they know what kind of features they can put in. Simply put, its a marketing tactic, and it works. ARGs keeps the interest up as they develop futher. In 2011 they will tell us more then ever, and it will probaly begin in 20 days on GDC. So keep a look over there. All other is unknown until then, but you can search up the countlessm (few) interviews and read those while you wait. |

Yep. At this time there's still hardly anything known about the precise mechanics of the game. So I can't answer question 3 for you. However:
1. Will there be any open alpha or beta testing? or will this be another "pre-order only" alpha/beta? The main webpage darkdaysarecoming.com features a chance to 'win' beta. So they must plan to at least have an open beta without a purchase requirement at some stage. During the current Alternate Reality Games there's also been talk of '11' being chosen from the community. What exactly they are chosen for I have no idea. It's too few for Beta of course, but still interesting to keep an eye on.
2. How complicated will the game be? Will we see the usual lame and boring "kill 10 rats" quests or will we actually need to think to complete tasks in this game? Game director Ragnar Tornquist, who has a proven track record and passion for deep storylines, has said in many interviews that quests will be meaningful and not just kill 19 rats types of quests (E.g. this vid, around 8:50 to 10:30). He also says that quests will form part of a wider puzzle to unlock secrets about the lore behind the Secret World, so I imagine that 'real' knowledge (not exactly sure how to phrase that) gained as you enjoying playing through the storyline will make you more effective later on with puzzle quests. Exact implementation has yet to be seen of course, but it really does give me hope that PvE gameplay will be engaging and creative.
Destiny 2010 is spot on about 2011 being the year for TSW reveals. Can't wait for GDC! Until then there are several fan sites you should check out, because over the years quite a bit of data has been collected from clues released by Funcom. I have to give a shout out to my favourite one Mysterium Magnum, because it got me into TSW and because I am a lore nerd who loves that stuff. They have a fansites page with tons of other excellent sites as well. |

my impression just from the mocking release date is that they don't want to commit to anything or say anything or promise anything in lueu of age of conan and how that game itself had a sloppy release |
