Your question kind of answers itself. Compared to other games out there, they have the opinion that DCUO is a good game in its own right, but it isn't worth paying $15 a month to play. For me it's not a budget thing, there's just not enough there to spend $15 on when I can spend it somewhere else and get more of what I want. That doesn't mean DCUO is a bad game, or that I think other people shouldn't spend $15 a month on it. Just means I won't. Join the League For Gamers. |

Then you have people like myself who subscribe to Sony's Station Access plan. I probably would not be willing to pay 15 dollars per month for DCUO as it is. But since they're adding it for free to the subscription I already pay for all their other games, it's essentially a buy-to-play for me, and it is DEFINITELY worth that. It adds some much needed value to the Station Access as well. Might be a good time for others to look into it...people that want to go back to Vanguard as well, for example. And Planetside is still alot of fun. |

No offense, but this is not old, lol. You have barely begun to use your hands at 26 years old.
This isn't exactly a "old" gamer either, although you are ahead of most players.
Things BEFORE gamepads and controllers. Just dust off some history books and you'll know what I mean. Most of 'my' group are playing PC mmos, we don't mess around with this type of action game... we usually leave that for younger console players. That's the point I was making.

I don't know about you guys but I have paid $15 a month to play some really crappy games at launch. And most never get any better. With DCU online, I already know that Green Lantern content is coming, Additional power-sets like lightning, atomic, and light have already been announced (as they were in the original beta before they opened it up to the pre-order). And with an IP like DC I am not concerned with the addition of future content. I will gladly play for $15/ month. As for there being "no end-game content", that translates into "I hate PVP" and that's cool, but to say that content is not there is just wrong. There is plenty of content, IF you like PVP. which I do! And maybe I'm not a "hard-core" MMO'er but the prospect of NOT needing to make 15 shirts, 20 jackets, followed by 15,000 other worthless trinkets that no-one else wants, while spending 5000+ hours searching for the crap I need to make this worthless stuff, appeals to me greatly!! So while this may not be a "traditional MMO" it is exactly what I am looking for!!! So I would recommend this game to anyone who wants a casual MMO game with characters you know, in a world you know with the potential for VERY deep development of the IP. |

Chat doesn't work right. It's too borky and cumbersome to even try and console it. The tanking system doesn't work well enough atm. There is a lot of disconnections happening with the game. Mobs are brainless and zerg style. Hit one and you got a ton on you. The AI is horrible in this game.
I think the game will overall be fine for two months. After that, I don't hold much hope for it as a $15/mo sub. |

This is actually a VERY fair point. But the "no content" argument is very valid.
And for that $15/mo, people are going to play things like Halo for practically free on replay value. I doubt you'll see many console player shelling out $90 for six months of game time doing this, in ADDITION to montly fees for connecting to things like Xbox Live and such.

The question is not whether the game is worth monthly fees or not but whether it is worth buying and playing for a month. I'm conflicted over that. My gut says it is better to do that a while down the line. |

Originally posted by Abangyarudo You keep saying 20's....so you haven't tanked end game, trust me tanking doesn't work well, because tanking is a triangle, especially in end game. It is no longer just a matter of your tank doing his/her job and the healer doing theirs. You have to be concerned about how well a controller or two or providing energy to a team. No energy, no healing, no taunting, leaves a big mess on your hands. It comes down to a huge amount of team micromanaging when doing difficult content. Then, they don't give you any tools to monitor everything you have to micromanage. No energy bars when your raid goes over 4 people for the controllers to monitor, no timers to keep track of the duration of taunts, and the list goes on. The chat system is very broken. It's a very unwieldy system that very rarely remembers what chat mode you were using last meaning you constantly have to type /say, /group, /shout before anything you input. The tell system provides no easy method of replying to someone, so you constantly have to type /tell <name of character> before each tell. If the person has a space in their name you have to put their name in quotations just to send them a tell. There's a heck of a lot more wrong than that, but I could write several pages of current bugs and flawed systems. Not to mention the lack of content overall. However, even after all that I'm still sticking with the game on release. It's a good game and worth the box price. If they keep good on their promise of meaningful content each month the game will be great. |

Not sure you saw it (even though I said it at least twice, but I already said.. it's beta. That was for the poster who was asking "what's wrong with it" as if a beta game doesn't have problems when someone else said it did.
Every quest is voice acted and the voice tells you where to go and what to do incase you are too lazy to read the quest.. just listen and then follow the minimap arrows lol. What is sandbox about getting a quest and then following a big gigantic yellow arrow on the minimap that leads you right to the front door of the instance? You're following a MENTOR for God's sake.. he's not saying "okay, go level how you want so you can fight crime/the law". The Batman says "There is a bad guy over there. Go kill him and 10 of his henchemn and free so and so."
No sandbox type= quests you MUST follow to progress. Scripted world that you must follow for progression and rewards (DCUO, WoW, Tera, most MMOs) |

I'll have to agree with OP here. Overall, I actually enjoyed the PS3/PC betas, but not enough to justify paying a sub right now. Fun in its own right, but not deep enough for me to toss them 15 after the first month. I could see buying the box just for the free month, but I personally prefer to stick with a MMO for a good while.
Going to wait and see if they eventually overhaul the payment structure.

I am of the camp, that I do enjoy it, I will buy it and see what the first 30 days bring, If I am still enjoying it i will sub, if not I won't. For me it is no different than buying a console game that i generally don't play for more than a month unless it's a stellar game I do foresee me playing for a few months anyhow, something to fill the time with some fast action fighting fun "All expectation leads to suffering" Buhhda |
