 Grinding is what a sandbox game is all about. As for what else the game would offer I wouldn't know, it's always sounded like a game I'd want to take a look at but for the fact that it's purely  PvP, so I have never bothered.

 Darkfall....contrary to the hype....is not purely PvP. On the other hand, if you wish to do much non-PvP it is hard to find. It is there just hard to find. There are also aspects on non-PvP that could be added or enhanced but so far AV has not figured that out.

I have to agree, butter is spread really thinly in DF. In theme park based MMOs you have couple of thousands of quests. They are usually really poor quality from RPG fan point of view. Beyond that theme parks are lacking enjoyable game content, which you would happly play again.

DF is trying to be a sandbox MMO but fails miserably without interesting game mechanics and mini-games. Seriously I think that good strategy games or even team based FPS games beat it when it comes to lasting fun factor. That was the second reason just after the grind why I don't enjoy DF in long term. It is just not worth the price. However mind I hardly enjoy any MMOs lately. I think they are really cheap in terms of quality of game play and fun versus price. At time I had hopes DF will change it, but it just stayed a bare skeleton of basic game content like it was in beta and after launch. 

You have the same quests in DFO.  There simply isnt a flotaing '!' over the NPC's head.

Please...quests in DF are totally out of place. Not saying that's the last type of content I am after in DF. The problem is the game hardly delievers anything instead. They would invest that time better in EVE like randomly generated missions.

Darkfall is the best MMORPG in existence but unfortunately still in paid beta. They have improved the game twenty fold since I started playing (for casual players and legitimate players . ... but not macroers, they will keep complaining because most are impatient scrubs).

 

They are making so many changes soon for the better . .. I can feeeel it!! : )

 

@ OP

If you played Darkfall for as long as me with my mindset than you would not be able to log into other MMOs . .. even if Darkfall's grind was worse. Too many things that it has to offer which most games simply lack. One character per account and you will never have to be forced to reroll. Compared to other FFA PVP (like EQs FFA PVP) the grind is minimal . .. but since there is full-loot the grind honestly does not end because you will always have to replace what is lost. The trick is finding fun in replacing those goods, which they are improving every few months.

NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do.

Now if you suck at FPS, having 100 in everything wont help you.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else.

Sid and to the others responding to the  'i'll never catch up" complaint.....stop wasting your time. These are the same people posting the same nonsense about never catching the vets in EvE. They either haven't played and are professional regurgitators or have played and are just butthurt. Grinding in DF used to be way, way worse than it is now. If you could get a toon 100/50 or whatever when i played...it tooks months and months.  Macro'ing/bloodwalls all that nonsense makes the game worse.

As far as the lore is concerned...RP'ing in DF was never it's strong suit. I was in a clan that only allowed orks/mahraim and a few alfar for a long time...guess what happened? We kept getting our asses handed to us by ARAC so that stopped. There just wasn't enough ork/wolf players to begin with.

People will never be happy with DF, EvE whatever b/c there are consequences. Or these people want a solo experience. What they fail to realize is, they are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole...it doesn't fit. You can be the best macro'd up/uber/leet whatever player in DF, in a one man clan, and get your ass handed to you, repeatedly.

Same goes for EvE. It's posts like these that make reading the forums tiresome. I'm not saying they don't have a right to express their opinions, but it's the same 10-15 topics over and over again. Find a new complaint.

Fact: they aren't implementing a skillcap  (which sucks, but it is what it is)

Fact: if you have 100/50 in a skill and i have the same, but you suck at FPS's, you will lose.

Fact: if you choose to log in to the server, you are consenting to PvP.

Has school started back? Get these same ole complaints off and let's hear some new ones, ffs.

100 goes for any skill , spell  and 110 for stats.

The whole 'grind must catch up' argument is a myth.

What you need to do is play smart - and skilled players with 1 month old characters can (and do) kick ass by playing smarter than the other guy/gal.

 

It's a FFA PvP game.  No-one cares if your new toon didn't have 450 health and capped magic schools - everyone cares about who is lying on the deck about to lose all thier stuff after a fight.  If you want to be a superb pvper, stop fussing about numbers and get in-game and work out a strategy that suits you.  Join a good clan, and you too can be butchering people faster than most players believe is possible.  And a good hint - don't miss ;p
