Indeed.. Well I can understand how certain humans get their underwear all in a knot over being around a member of the opposite sex (mostly guys i imagine), we're not a very clever or self-aware species, mostly we get dragged around by our hormones and justify it intellectually after the fact.

I would say that part of our humanity is great. I see no reason why people need to justify it as that's who we are and a great part of who we are!

As far as people hitting on other people in a video game, that just surprises me because I would never in a million years "hit" on a person in a video game.

So much more interesting doing it in person. but to each his own I suppose.

I believe it's mainly what toon looks more attractive to the player regardless of being male/female. They can easily say they are male IRL and get over the topic and move on.

Come to think of it, women have men to thank for making character' s gender not as clear who is playing behind it (Ok, dev artists too for making them sexy). Now, they don't have to worry quite as much.

on a side note: way back when, playing a female character was a good way to fooling guys into giving you free stuff. RPing was... rewarding

You will see first hand that full nudity, sexual dancing, and sexual behavior is now a part of games and will not leave. The more we ignore this fact, the more game developers will try to put in thier version of what they think the  MMO community wants for thier brand of MMO sex.

Every time there is a thread on this subject it always seems to reach 20+ pages. Never ceases to amaze me. Have decided from now on to only role female toons to piss off people who are botherd by it.:)

Ive never done that, but it sure messed with your head.

Ill play a female character depending on the chracter models and the class.   Its not something I do to fulfill some fantasy. I have a wife, and if I was set on that fantasy, Im sure we would try it. For the record, Ive played goblins, and taurens also.

I think the most important thing you youngins should think about is, it is just a game. Dont take it so seriously...

Before I answer let me mention one of my favorite hobbies is writing. In said hobby I am putting my self in the shoes of men, women, elves, dwarves, or whatever and need to think like they would to be convincing or the story comes out as flat and generic. I carry this over to gaming, will play whatever provided it fits the backstory I create for that character.

Even roleplayed a female (male in real life) a few times even though I made it obvious I was a male IRL but was doing it for the sake of roleplay. None of it is real so you may as well have a fun time playing pretend.

These people haven't read the results of the Daedalus Project, a scientific research of mmogs. Google it and you'll find that males playing as females is very frequent. The mains of most of my friends and mine are females simply because they're sexy.

But as you asked it in the GW forum, I find it interesting to note that different mmog communities react differently to this matter. In SWG, my guild found weird that I, a man in real life, was playing with a female character (nvm the ugly models ;(

My answer is:

Definitely yes.  I have, I do, and I will.  I always have characters of both genders. Why?  Because it's fun to role play them and....some classes and races just lend themselves more to the male form to me.  My main is almost always female, but I absolutely always have male characters that I play as well.

I see no issues with it for men OR women to role play either or both genders.  I mean....these are mmoRPGs we're playing here.  I think the RPG part is left out far too often.
