The EVE Online team has announced the commencement of the Create a Starship contest voting. The ships were created by fans and players. There are well over fifty entries from which to choose so be sure to head to the EVE Contest site to vote for your favorite.

wow, there's a lot of good stuff there. They might as well just use all of it!

Sad...that line-up is missing some of the really good designs and there are a bunch that aren't even that good (Porpoise especially). Abdiel and Aura look almost the same. Leads me to conclude that the deviantART staff didn't even look through all of the entries (there were hundreds).

 This is not the same competition. The DeviantArt competition went quite terrible because of some horrible nominees, so this time we are having a contest for Eve players and as such there are fewer designs. The Deviantart competition has ended and following ships won: http://news.deviantart.com/article/133951/

Unlike last time players chose the winner this time around. In actuality this also happened last time, but only after much turmoil. The winner was not even in the original nominees.

Thank you for the explanation. I can see why players wanted another contest; they missed some really great designs. The CCP staff should have just chosen the 15 semi-finalists and the three winners instead of relying on the deviant-art staff (since they obviously didn't do a very thorough job).

What is the new contest for? Will the winning design be created in the game as well?

We should have our own contest. 

Sucks to hear about the Deviant Art contest going into the shitter but I must admit I'm not entirely surprised by the revelation, DA's been on the decline for the past several years now.

Also, I may have just missed the memo but there appears to be a lot of battleships in the running....  That being said, EVE rounded up some real talent all around.

I think I remember someone saying that while they do not promise this, it is likely. However it is not likely to happen anytime soon. Couldn't find my source so I may be wrong.

No. Due to a packed production schedule of ships and other art next year we cannot guarantee the winner goes in before 2012. Seriously, the art schedule is packed. However the CCP Art team reserves the right to change their mind and find room to allow a truly gorgeous piece in."

IMO i wanna see the Gatekeeper or the Minos wins, truly awesome.
