I think the way pvp works is on pve servers it only functions in certain areas and on pvp servers you can kill enemy faction just about anywhere. |

Kind of, considering that rifts of different planes fight each other you can certainly help one of them out to take over another's footholds and the like, I am quite sure that the aggro mechanics allow it. Furthermore, you can join rift invasions in battle against your enemy faction invasions/footholds and quest hubs. These things are possible as long as you don't in some way anger the rift you're helping.
Pretty much the only thing you can't do is turn against your own faction NPCs

On a pvp server, I would expect the following example within the realm of possibility: You are Defiant ---> Rift opens in Guardian controlled area ---> Guardian players attempt to fight and close the rift ---> You ambush and slaughter the Guardians, helping the rift to grow and wreck havoc on their territory. The rift creatures would still aggro you if you got close, but based on the rift mechanics we've seen I think its very possible to actively work against the opposing faction and help the rifts takeover a region by working to kill those trying to defend it. Maybe not work against your own faction like this but certainly the opposing one. Actually I would think this kind of pvp action would be a big part of the pvp system. Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. |

From videos I have seen and interview info of devs........
You will be able to use a device....if you can get one....that allows you to open a rift up where you want to. This means that you can actually start rifts in your PvP enemie's area and lay in wait for any of the enemy PvPers to engage your newly opened rift and then jump them and kill them mid-combat.....thereby not allowing them to stop the growth of your rift you created making it bigger until finally it will be raid force and you will have taken over that area in a way squeezing your PvP enemy out by helping the Rift you created. This is very exciting and has not really been seen in other games. Should be interesting once the game is released to see tactics like these being used. |

Originally posted by svann Um, not really. You can be flagged (healing/buffing a PvP enabled NPC, or flag yourself (click the button) most anywhere (talking over-world map, not instances/dungeons) and engage in PvP is an opposing factioned, PVP flagged player wonders up. Only real difference is that on a PvP server that flag is always on. On a PvE you have to activate it. So, there will be plenty of Open World PvP on PvE servers I'm thinking. @ Grunties and Karble Yup and Yup. "Many nights, my friend... Well it doesn't seam you can help of even join the mob factions from the beta, but if you could it would be very nice. Especially if later they let you enter rift portals for pvp or pve, which i don't know really, but this seam such a nice persepctive, i think the dev might explore it one day, if they havent already. |

Keep in mind that the lore is that both the Guardians and the Defiant exist to FIGHT rifts. They didnt bring you back from the dead to help the rifts. |

From what I have read of the Planes and the Dragons that control them, no one in their right mind would help them. Also they would probably just destroy or plunge you into permanent nightmare anyways even if you did help them. The planes creatures are a bunch of dicks. True Neutral Half-Elf Ranger Mage |

Originally posted by cosy The point. First off every good MMORPG that has come out has had a story associated with it. Rift story focuses on a world under assault from all sides. There is no hope in this world so they bring back to life the fallen heroes of Telera to try and stop this take over. You are one of these fallen heroes and basically the shield that has kept the other planes filled with bad creatures from taking over has been weakened to the point of collapsing. You basically start the game in the middle of all this chaos and will soon run into your first experiance with a rift. As you get deeper into the gameworld of Telera you will find rifts from 6 different planes of reality opening randomly and taking over areas. They will start waging assaults towards locations that are important to questing and such. eventually they will take control of massive parts of the map and run into other planes and fight eachother. Also These Rift areas are concidered PvP locations as well so while you are fighting a rift you may also be fighting players of the opposite faction. Rifts have many power levels associated with them all the way up to raid style rifts with big bosses that will crush regular players. The introduction to them starts off easy at very low levels but even in beta at the low level of 17 you will find the rifts to be very challenging. They also scale with the amount of players involved. More players,,,more rift mobs and more challenging they will be, but also more rewards will be taken by the surviving players. |

yes but like i said you still cant help/join the rift side so no matter what happens the "rift" efforts are useless "rifts" will lose all the time The end game content, the Rifts, have a clear winner and a clear loser side

Originally posted by cosy We as players haven't seen the endgame side of things just yet. No idea what the designers have in store for us post release or in an expansion down the road from there. WHat we do know from info gathered is that rifts are bad and need to be destroyed if in your territory. You can open a rift clos to an enemie's quest hub and use that as a location to start a massive pvp assault by preventing players of the opposite faction from closing the rift and thereby making the rift stronger and after a bit it will start launching attacks on thier locations and such. As far as partnering up with your local life rift in a group and not being attacked within range of the mobs from a rift...that is not the case. But you can use a rift as a tool for your own purposes if you are smart about it. |
