Rift is NOT WoW killer for one simple reason - graphics are too high for 12 mill WoW players. That simple. You can't get such massive player base with graphics like that. |

Originally posted by Rockgod99 well, i dont doubt that, but my point was that it 'sounds like yet another asian grinder' ... perhaps when the game is released and we hear something about it.... it might be worth a try.. i kind of lost faith with new games tbh, so now i wait until they have been live for a month or three before even trying them... saves all kinds of levels of disapointment |

Once again, and I cannot stress this enough, the term WoW Killer is as ridiculous as ever. I wish that people would stop with the ridiculous posts say that X game is a WoW Killer. I am no fan of WoW, but I respect what they accomplished and they moved the industry standards, but, each time someone says WoW Killer the game ends up so terrible that I wouldn[object Window]t give it a breath of time. If you want people to actually pay attention to a game, research it and provide reasons WHY it is so great and WHY we should pay attention to it in the first place in a reasonably knowledgeable format showing the pros and cons. Simply saying WoW Killer seems to be the most asinine debating point that anyone ever created to advertise an opinion of a game. I personally don[object Window]t care if a game kills WoW, but if its is a game like EvE (since I don[object Window]t like EvE), then why would I care? How about a second try? Try a title of 10 reasons why people would like RIFT over WoW or even RIFT vs. WoW WinnTech |

Yet another WoW clone doomed to be a flop that will go F2P in 2 to 3 months. The only games I see taking a noticeable chunk of WoW subs from Blizzard are SWTOR and GW2 to a lesser degree. |

Um, no. Not even by a long shot. *sigh*. If you don't want to play WoW; fine, but can we stop with the silly "WoW killer" comments? APB didn't kill WoW, Aion didn't kill WoW, and neither will this.

When will people realise that there is no such thing as WOW killer? after the new CATA release WOW will rule supreme easily for another 6 years. Stop making these topics please. Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?
To put it in a nutshell, our society is about to hit the fan, grades are dropping, obesity is going up,childhood the USA is going to lose its super power status before too long, but hey, as long as we have a cheap method to babysit our kids, all will be well no? |

Believe it or not, games CAN co-exist peacefully. We don't need threads like this clogging anyone's head with nonsense.
Been playing WoW 6 years strong, and still love the game. It dulls down right before the next expansion comes out, but aside from that there's a LOT to do for everyone. Cataclysm is only strengthening that fact. Strangely, WoW has a die-hard base: both fans and anti-fans alike. The fans who love wow (not talking huge fanboys) just play it to have fun and relax, and often will not care if people write threads like this. The anti-fans, strangely, end up posting more on these threads in defense of WoW. Everyone has their own opinions, and their own playstyle. WoW doesn't fit them all, but 12 million people will not leave wow to play Rift. I am REALLY excited for Rift. However, I'll be playing both together. Just like right now I play WoW and League of Legends together. Two completely different games, but I make time for both because I enjoy both. No game is going to kill WoW, and you know what? They don't have to. Rift is being made by developers who love doing what they do. Do you think their meetings ever consist of lines such as "Alright guys, what should we implement next to try killing WoW?" No. They don't care about WoW. I am sure a lot of their team plays different games, including WoW, and that's what is going to make them good developers. Because they're PART of the community they're making a game for. I'm sure they have no ill will toward their competitors, but they're likely trying their damnedest to make a good game.
So please, knock it off with these threads. Even the companies making these supposed 'WoW killers' are not making their games to kill WoW. They make them because they love doing it. Drivel like this is what makes the online gamer communities so bad.
On that note, though.. I hope I get a VIP beta invite to Rift. Because I really want one, but am always 'too little, too late'. |

I seriously doubt that Rift, or any other of these new mmo's coming out are going to kill WoW. They may steal a few numbers and hopefully they are made in a good enough state that they do well. There is only one game that has a chance at being a WoW killer, and it's not a new game. No, it's an older game that still holds reverence by countless players the world over! No it's not EQ, or Baldurs Gate, or D&D! It's the legendary, immortal Pong!!! But not just the same old pong! no, no, no! This is a new Pong! One with laser beams, and ninja's and dogs shooting gatling guns! I'm talking visuals that burn in your screen AND your eyes!!! Sound effects that send such massive shivers down your spine you'll think you're having a seizure! In fact, you'll probably have a seizure! Hard core drug addicts will forget about their addictions just by playing the NEW PONG!! There is no denying it, no arguing the point. When pong is revived, it will dominate the world! All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

It's starting to SCARE me how often I'm agreeing with you lately, but.....I agree with this too. The games that I have plans on playing this next year (the game gods willing) are GW2, Rift, and TSW. I only hope all 3 make it out and give me that opportunity.
Just because I don't think something will have "WoW-like" success CERTAINLY doesn't mean I won't be playing it. As a matter of fact.....I'm a LOT more apt to like a game that isn't so generic that it draws in millions of people who have never played an MMO in their life previously. I tend to like things that are a little LESS mainstream. That's just me. President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club |

I've said this a few times in these forums . The thing that will kill WoW is the new tech coming along . 3D tvs coupled with 3D capable and mmo friendly consoles will make it look old hat . Having said that I think any of the new mmos next year could dent WoW subs .The shattering has been welcome in WoW but its left a lot of us thinking if this is much of the major selling point of the new Xpac that the redesigning of the game world is underwealming and certainly not cataclysmic . Good as WoW is/was I think all it will take now is one half decent alternative and theres gonna be wounds but I doubt there will be a kill . |

I'd like to add my counter-prediction. Release Day: Some players will say that the game offers nothing new, or that there are too many bugs, or that the combat system sucks, or that it's just like WoW, or it's boring, or there's not enough content, or quit the game after a few hours because it's not for them but feel compelled to come here to post a "Why I quit" thread to supposedly "warn others to not play this horrible game". Other players will say the game is a refreshing take on the genre, or that the bugs are to be expected with any new release and the game is still fun despite some minor bugs, or that the game is nothing like WoW and it reminds them more of X game (only better), or there is plenty of content and they don't know what the other players are talking about, they say they will subscribe to the game (or will subscribe if X or Y is fixed before the free month is up), they will feel compelled to come here and post replies to the "Why I quit" threads to supposedly "warn others that those players quitting are just missing the point". There you go, see if that doesn't come true :D "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

I don't like WoW, so I hope nothing kills it, it can hopefully keep its audience, and those looking for something new/different can find new games. Nothing is killing wow but time, they got too much cash and can retool quickly by throwing cash at it, if needed. |
