Well if I have to pick just 3 (I have about 50 I really like) these would be my choices:
Honarable mention goes to the love/hate relationship I've had with both the Star Wars and Star Trek IPs. I absolutely loved some out of both franchises.... Some were just mediocre. (Star Wars 4/5 and The Wrath of Khan/Search for Spock/First Contact top my list)

oooh ,,, umm in no particular order my 3 all time favs ( they change a bit based on my mood but these 3 are always up top) Aliens - who doesnt like Hudson. and come on a mobile forklift vs alien motherbitch !! Starship Troopers - this movie just tickles me everytime i see it , i even stoop to watch it on TBS or something. Gattaca - Im prolly the only person here who actually went to a theatre to see this one ... i consider this a real glimpse into the future of the USA.
others of note : Star Trek II : Wrath of Khan ( KHAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!) , Star Wars- The Empire Strikes Back ( whos yer daddy?), Logans Run ( I have this one on Laser Disk of all things) , Darkstar ( lets see you talk a bomb with a sucide complex out of exploding and imagine being stuck a few lightyears from home without any toliet paper), and Black Hole ( yeah its disney so what, its a good movie) Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. |

1, Solaris by Andrei Tarkovsky. This has to be the best. So much amazing-ness. My fave scene is zero gravity in the library room with the close ups of the painting "Hunters in the Snow" by Pieter Bruegel. This movie will rearrange your entire raison detre of what movie SF should be. Easily the best by a million light years. A masterpiece. 2. The Thing by John Carpenter
3. 2001 by Stanley Kubrick.
