Let me preface by saying i think WoW is a very well done game.
My problem is not with WoW its with the rest of these so called developers out there that take WoW and just add a little twist here or there. Hey lets take WOW and have a bit more focus on RVR hey lets take WoW and add a more open class system Hey lets take WOW and give it star wars skins hey lets take WoW and set it in norrath Hey lets take WoW and give them guns Hey lets take WoW and but set it in a comic book
we get it WoW is a big moneymaker, they are the largest MMO out there but that doesn't mean their way is the ONLY way so you have to copy it directly.
I am done with this genre till some AAA company pulls their heads from their rear and realizes that if people wanted to play WoW they will just play WoW, we need some originality. |

thats all fine and good. Now, what do you want? What do you want developers to do differently than WoW? Can you think of anything someone hasnt tried already? |

That is like saying all single player games should be that same you have no idea how ignorant that sounds, I am not calling you ignorant but someone who is a gamer in many ways find this statement almost unbarable. The thing is if they keep making games like wow people will want something differant all those kids who started in wow 4 5 years ago are growing up want something new and fresh, just like the console and pc gaming industry games need to evolve and change to entertain just like movies and tv shows.
You cannot keep reselling crap that is why many games fail, now sadly allot of mmorpgs do to much at once, and make the game unappealing in the end, if they would just focus on a good launch make it as unique as they can and make it more unique later that would work out quite well. |

Originally posted by Ramonski7 You either like mmos or don't The wisdom in this statement is in its simplicity. Blizzard continues to update and intergrate the entire genre. I'm sure the developers are all thinking "Let's not do a WoW clone." but as they go through the genre, you kind of have to. DDO isn't so WoW-like. City of Heroes is pretty unique. WURM & EVE exists. These games exist outside of WoW's direction, go play them. Bounce around. It's just how the market is now a days. |

You need to check out Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, DCUO. Tera and Rift just wana be sisters of WoW, so I wouldn't recomend them. Guild Wars 2's 50 minutes game play video: |

Will there be questing with small groups? Raids were mentioned today, which will be high-end content. I know you can't talk too much about raids. Will they be integral to the storyline of the game? Will players find themselves being lead to them? Or will they be more stand-alone, you-can-do-them-if-you-wish? What does crafting entail? Is there going to be a lot of crafting, or is it going to be very focused?

Originally posted by Slipscreen we would have got your message even if you only had said, WoW is perfect and all other mmorpg are wow clones..... man, it is true that there are wow clones out there, many, but you are talking like if every single mmorpg out there is a wow clone with a twist.... keep in mind that wow was not the first mmorpg ever made. If there is gonna be a wow clone that is completely fine as long as it is well made and fun to play and of course F2P wich is the purpose of wow clones, to bring a close experience of wow to the players who cant afford to pay for wow plus the ones who rather microtransactions and non-sub game... but thats only with the wow clones, Most of the mmorpgs out there are NOT wow clones..... so your post only fit in a few mmorpgs that cloned wow where you can sense the epic fail of a game right away (thats only a few of them). PS: if u are waiting for a AAA game as u said, be patient until GW2 comes out. |

Originally posted by theartist agree with this, the problem is that people think an mmorpg is a wow clone because they do the same thing as wow such as, crafting, questing killing mobs, gathering items, pvp, factions pvp (some of them) variety of classes (where most of them are the same as wow) like mage, summoner, rogue, warrior, knight/paladin, ranger/hunter.... races that include elves.... all that stuff is typical in mmorpgs, so that does not mean is a wow clone... so far the wow clones out there took some of the graphics and mechanics, thats it. most of the stuff out there belongs more to the fantasy genre thatn to just plain WoW. WoW didnt bring the fantasy genre to the world, WoW was made based on an existing fantasy genre which people seems to forget that and think its the opposite |

How much more can the MMORPG offer us? If we're looking to push the envelope... where does that 'push' come from? And really, where does it push us to? The FPS-MMO hybrid was supposedly 'next-gen'. It's not. It's just an MMORPG with a different combat system. And...? FPS games that now track 'achievements' and stats, allow for unlocks of weapons and equipment, etc.,.. Also, not an MMORPG, imho, but that's the FPS genre bleeding over into 'MMORPG' territory. Theme park vs sand-box? Open world vs streamlined pathing? Are we looking for a different 'genre' or IP? How does the MMO move from the current space to somewhere new? Somewhere beyond WoW? Some people think it's by blending in Facebook/Twitter/MySpace with MMORPG's.... those people should be punched in the jejunum. Honestly... do I really want to be 'friends' and connected IRL with the arsehats from tradechat? No... I really don't. Personally, I think customizable content... personalized content... adaptable content is what we need. But that's just me. All of these games tell us 'we are the champion'... 'the chosen one'... the game promises to tell 'your story'. Okay... then let US tell 'our story'. That's what I want to see.
