In a recent Final Fantasy XI media tour, MMORPG.com's Carolyn Koh had the opportunity for a look a the last major update that brings the final chapters of the Wings of the Goddess story arc to a close. Between the September update and the update coming in December, FFXI players will have a lot to do to hit level 99. Check out Carolyn's thoughts about her media tour and then comment below.

As usual, I had to get a controls refresher, especially since I had been playing FFXIV with it’s very different controls, then I was treated to the opening movie cut scene which took me and my cat companion, the Regal Feline, Cait Sith – a talking cat which walks on its hind legs – into the alternate time line that Wings of the Goddess is set in. Lilisette has vanished and instead we meet the Lady Lilith who in a convolution of a parallel world, is actually an evil Lilisette twin. With the help of Cait Sith, players are tasked to gather the pieces of Lilisette’s memories to bring her back. If Lilisette is brought back in this timeline, then the Lady Lilith and her evil minions and doings will be no more.

Scars of Abyssea, Empyrean armor... are you sure its FF ??

Wings is the best storyline in XI, IMO. Too bad it was drawn out for years.

I cant imagine people will leave FFXI for FFXIV since it seems like XIV is a prettty awful game and i have yet to hear anything good about it.

I always wondered about FFXI.. I feel like i backed out of the game way to earlie.. I only played it at launch and wasn't too satisfied, but now i hear that it's taken tremendous leaps and bounds.. Looks like a good game.. Just a shame that PvP isn't implemented in a better way (aka world pvp.)

I did not once heard anything good about FF14 yes. Am i not part of the audience or every one feel the same thing? Been playing FF all my life BTW, but 13 and now this one, big let down.

I think for the most part, the FFXI people are staying put.  I have a couple of friends that play, that were hoping they could move to XIV, but considering the sorry state that game is in they are staying put and so are most of the people they play with.

Fortunately, synthetic Atma (although less potent) can be purchased with cold hard cruor (FFXI gold) as can a Lunar Abyssite.

Actually, Cruor is Abyssean credits/currency and is not used elsewhere; Gil, the fundamental term used for currency in all other FF titles, still applies here as well for the rest of the game :) Minor correction.

As far as I'm aware, the level cap will be raised to 90, not 99.

Played the game from the start, made many many great friends around the world then 'it' happened.  Square thought they could make it better.. thought they could appease the whiners in FFXI.... It was the begining of the end, the elimination of the "MPK".  Don't get me wrong, sucked to have a pissed off mob dropped into the middle of your party but it was a very slippery slope.  The game quickly began to loose it's aire; the Dunes were quickly forgotten as being a nightmare and places like Kazham, or as we called it, "Vietnam",  became just another place to grind out xp.  Then came the game mechanic alterations.. the ability to solo, the ability to change jobs basically on the fly... These are what Square thought we wanted, they thought if they dumbed down this game enough they could draw more of a crowd.. more WoW players.  FFXI was a niche game and it was good that way; we all hated the gil farmers or the NM campers but we knew how to deal with them.  So Square took all they 'learned' and put it in FFXIV.. sure it is mostly bugs and lack of content now but I assure you it will disapoint because it was made for the wrong reasons.  FFXI players know it too; we play FFXI because it has a fantastic community but I do not know a single veteran player that is happy with what FFXI has become and we are certainly leary of what we see in FFXIV.  For those of you that aren't aware of how Square Enix operates this should be all you need to know: SE wants to chain you to your PC and time sink your life away.  SE wants as much money as possible while riding the popularity of a dying chocobo name Final Fantasy.  *end rant*

Wings of the Goddess is a really good exanpsion. Too bad that  Abessya was a flop. But dont expect anything like Wotg anytime soon. I really think Se will fix 14 the game is too beautiful for failure.

It's interesting you consider Abyssea a flop, when I visit some big FF XI forums most people actually think Abyssea was a good improvement and hope SE will change the rest of the game to be more similar to it.
