MMORPG.com Runescape Correspondent Fasail Baig has written this informative piece letting the game's players know how to avoid being the victim of a scam in-game.

Do you ever get the feeling that you are being cheated out of your money? Have you ever thought a deal was too good to be true? If you have, it probably is. Scamming is a big problem in the Runescape world. Greedy and lazy players will usually do anything to get money without actually doing any work. Don't be fooled by high levels acting nice. For almost all of us we have been scammed at least once, and if you haven't been yet - give it time. This guide will tell you how to avoid some of the common Runescape scams. First off, never rush trades. Scammers will always try to rush through the trading screens so that an inexperienced player will miss some very important points. Take your time check both screens. Whenever you make a trade for gold, always keep a few things in mind. When you sell something for, let's say 20k, which is 20,000gp it should say 20k as the trade window (20,000 gold). What a lot of people will do is put up 1000k which is a million GP then they will take off 900k. This makes 100k look like 1000k, now if you were rushing through trade screens you might overlook the missing zero. Another thing to look for is Runescape players trying to scam you by adding a 4 at the end of the number which looks almost like k. This is not used very much anymore, but again, if you were rushing through your trade you might miss it and get scammed. Now just remember to never rush through trade screens.

Well, thanks for this post, but in truth most of those scams aren't possible anymore. Jagex created a trade-limit over a year ago, and also got rid of PKing. Also, passwords ARE blocked from the game now, so that scam wouldn't work either. There is a limit on the amount of goods you can see on the ground, (i believe it's 3k?) If you were actually able to scam someone, it wouldn't be for anything worth talking about, and it'd be pretty hard to do even that with all the warnings Jagex have put into trade, (for example, if you take something away from the trade a red "!" flashes on the screen for a few seconds.)

The hacking scam still works, but it is risky. They could always type their password in parts, but to actually get their items, you either have to go to Bounty Hunter, or try your luck at the Party Room. Bounty Hunter was made to "replace" PKing in RuneScape, and it is very risky to go in to BH to transfer items to your account. You'd need two people; one on your account, and the other on the person getting hacked's account. People always try to attack other people who carry expensive items, and if they see that you are transferring, they will team up and most likely kill you, unless you are a high level. Party Room is even more risky. If you put an item in that is >50,000GP, the bankers will announce the party for all of RuneScape players to see. If the party is >1,000,000GP, Hundreds of players flock to get a shot at getting it.

RuneScape has done a pretty good job and erasing scamming from the game, but in turn this has also driven away most of the old players from RuneScape.  The game was best liked because of its PvP aspect. Since that is gone now, (besides Bounty Hunter and "PvP Worlds," which not many like,) many of the beginning players, and most loyal players have quit RuneScape. But that is another story.

Before the update there were many scammers people complained now since the update was released, Jagex thought no more complaints and scammers now people are complaining about no Wildy and the trade limit.

In fact scamming has become harder, although it's not yet impossible to misuse players or even real life trade.

Real life trading still happens through the Bounty Hunter Cave where person.1. take a sara set into the cave and let's person.2. kill him. The penalty of 3minutes is often not enough for anti-reallife pk'ers to kill the offenders for they can tank over 3minutes. In some cases they even get help from clanmembers or friends who defend them by attacking the anti-reallife pk'ers (i just use this term freely here).

A not illegal way to still sell your goods against a higher price then the GE or new trade system allows. Just add in junk in the trade. This was what happend on the last added quest: while guthix sleeps.

The new armour and robes were sellable like this: person.1. obtained the items. Person.2. wants to have them no matter what. He offers for instance 3 milion gp. Normal trades wouldn't allow it. Though person.1. obtained during his rs carreer a lot of junk (read logs, bowstrings, runes, whack arrows etc). Normally these goods are hard or almost impossible to sell. They still have a value though ofcourse. When they are added in the trade suddenly person.1. can obtain lots of gp's.

WARING:In my world shortcuts are not short!

It's pretty hard to scam in RS but here are two more scames you should watch out for.

1.Although many know this if a player offers to "trim" your armour it cannot be done.

2.This is one that players that who aren't paying attention will miss. There is no name for this scam so let me give you an example. You want to trade a granite maul and the other person offers 200K (WOW) but then the trade table exits out and the other player says its an accidentSo you you offer the granite maul but this time the player offers 20K.You zccept the trade but by the time you see that you only got 20K teh other player logs off.

Also it is possible to trade up to a 250K difference if each player has a certin amount of "quest points"

Thank you for telling me all their "tricks" i feel that the runescape community is great and all but the problem is with some pple who are trying to ruin it... Good thing runescape has that report abuse thing and the trade limit... Even though many dont like the trade limit it stopps scamming. I also like your grand exchange article... Kind of persuasive which i like

I remeber the old runescape without the trade limmit and one easy way to make money was as a information monger/guide now its not exactly moral but back in the day before quest help it was the best way to get information/find places and yeah their were people that would scam and charge a bunch of money for a easy to obtain bit of information and i think that is why alot of people dont like the trade limit  but i was playing the other day and someone was guiding people to fist of guthix for 5k it was rediculus because now the world map shows were everything is and what it is

P.S. cant do gramer at all so idecided instead of trying and failing gramar i would just leave it without gramar because when i use gramar it confuses people
