More likely the correct version of that is: even major IP can be more profitable as F2P.

This was a rather quick turn-around from EQ2 going F2P.  Wonder if SOE will announce higher profits like Turbine has...

More like, there were so few people playing, it was either go F2P or close. The case here, at least.

And the "F2P" EQ2 is gimped beyond usefulness unless you cough up the microtranactions, to almost universal player criticism. Probably the worst "F2P conversion" so far, in terms of functionality.  Not the best example....

I did the free trial several years ago but moved on to other games. I am going to give POTBS another look for sure. Something different than your typical fantasy MMO. See you on 11/22. 

I've subbed PoTBS a few times off and on when the mood struck me, i did quite enjoy the naval combat and i personally felt the graphics during the naval battle and sound effects were quite enjoyable and very fitting(sound wise) . When i heard it was going to free2play i was happy to hear the news. I'll for sure be getting my account updated and see if the guild i was with last time i played was still around. It was a solid game to me at least.

ok im currently bored off my ass waiting for various updates to games and new releases.

i played the steaming pile known as PotBS at release for the free month

i have not looked back as it really was a steaming pile at release (avatar combat, need i mention more?)

have they fixed any of that?  i might be convinced to check out f2p mode if they have improved the game over the first 30 days it was out.

The games major focus is naval combat and I am sure they probably have improved avccom since release plus they recently released a whole new expansion.The game will be free so whats to lose hehe.

Unfortunately the f2p wont be starting til the week after Thanksgiving.

Possibly but one would think Vanguard should have gone F2P too in that case.

I think they believe they will get more money this way. It might work too.

As for EQ2X mane people are upset but they still got a lot of new players. Same goes for LOTRO that is almost as bad as EQ2X, you have to buy quests there for most parts of the game. It seems like both companies are earning money on this even though I think they should wait a few more months before opening the champagne bottles.

I think both Turbine and SOE are charging for too much stuff and that it will come back and bite them in the long run. Compared to other F2P games like RoM everything cost money in LOTRO and EQ2X. There is a balance you have to get right, DDO had it perfect but not these 2 games.

Once premium MMOs comes out as without monthly fees and with a better balance things will change, I believe LOTRO and EQ2X will get over run by GW2.

But in this case it might be a good idea unless they get too greedy again...

We plan to publish build 2.1 to our live servers on Monday, November 29th. Antigua and Roberts should be down between 4am and 9am PST*. This patch will take Pirates of the Burning Sea Free to Play!

The exact release time may change based on conversations we have with SOE later this week, and we plan to keep you up to date with any changes.

potbs used to have the best avcom of all MMOs then they made it into shit cause players where to dumb to understand it.
