Originally posted by mmorpgmaner Yeah, definitely not vaporware. This game is surprisingly well done, and the Devs really do go above and beyond. The news section on the Link Realms home page hasn't been updated since 2009. Most people would tend to believe there must have been some note worthy changes in the last year if the game is truly being actively developed. Not to mention the game looks like diablo 2 did over ten years ago, how long could a game like that really take to finish? Hell the full game is only 200MB. Overall I'm beginning to think they are running out of money and the game isn't going in the direction they would have hoped. Hence why this "holy grail of beta wave invites" will never come to pass. And why the new beta account status has been closed all year. Eventually the servers will close too and site will dissapear. |

Kind of fishy that they wouldn't bother to copy/paste that to the news section. One would tend to believe they wouldn't want the press to have to dig through old forum posts. Ah well, good to see the game hasn't died yet. |

Also had an email from the creators about beta. Hope this helps anyone who is wanting to beta test or see the game for themselves.

I am in the beta and just got in a few weeks ago. It's much like UO but with some nice added features.its still not ready as far as content goes, but its got alot to do now the crafting is decent the fighting well seems pretty much like uo was.
today i tried prospecting... When you create your character you get a shovel and i have found many others by breaking vases (kinda like in diablo). So i start out digging holes and i can see the hole it makes and open it up and its got a pile of dirt. Now when you open the hole you can find several different items, like a old coin, arrowheads (stone not metal) fossils and i even pulled up a human skull. Then you can add to that by using a miners pan to sift the dirt pile and find other items like gold etc... Then once your high enough you can use a metal detector to find other items... not high enough to use it yet so not sure what but i heard a guy say he found a treasure chest.
So definately not vaporware they are just a indie very small team working on it. you can own land and plant crops own cattle sheep chickens so far.
i think they are gonna send out another round of invites soon...
oooh ps> they told me players cant invite anyone till there character in game is 2 weeks old.. not confirmed by a dev just what the players have told me. played M59,UO,lineage,EQ,Daoc,Entropia,SWG,Horizons,Lineage2.EQ2,Vangaurd,Irth online, DarkFall,Star Trek |

Originally posted by elitekitty I agree. They'll have to provide great content and a decent story to even have a chance. As the graphics engine they chose is clearly sub-par. Additionally if they plan to charge monthy, they may as well hang up the towel now...as the market is already flooded with mediocre mmo's as it is. |

Link Relams has about the same graphical detail level as the Dungeon Siege games. It has a whole boat-load of promise, but that and a dollar bill can buy you a cup of coffee in the MMO market these days.
The graphics are actually quite good for a 2d game. There's a lot of detail and variation in the design, so don't be fooled into thinking it's a browser based looking game.
The only fee associated with it is in owning your own realm and buying store items. You get to build a house with their editor and upload it to the world... for better or for worse that is. This kind of binds them to being as "carebear" friendly as possible since people pay real money for their items. There's no loot system and PvP is minimal.
It doesn't come close to the UO feel it appears to have. So don;t isgn up plannign on going on any PvP runs or sneaking around town stealing from everyone you see - you can't, plain and simple.
Th devs seem to have a specific vision of what they want the game to be like and they don't want anyone telling them otherwise. So try it at your own risk! |

Got in played a little, it did bring back memories of UO.
I poped right in after downloaded right away I got someone port right to me asking if I would like a tour. That was kinda cool knowing I wasn't alone... since I was playing in morning not many on then.
One thing I didn't like is the movement :( not sure if I can get over it... Not a horrible game, but WOW has nothing to worry about unfortunatley. |

Played it for a while.. And I got fooled by the devs just like most others.. IT'S NOTHING LIKE UO. It's skill based instead of levels and its isometric.. That's the only similarity it's got with UO.
DEVs are just a indy "company" of 3 persons who rarely work on the game, There was a porn ad from a bot on the forum and it took like a week before it got removed. There's no customer support in the game even tho it has a cash shop and you're a paying player. If the DEVs don't like you for whatever reason (not being a carebear) they can just ignore you. Another proof of their slow development is that it took half a year for them to create a dungeon, Nothing else was added that year.. or well there was a handful of newbie quests but they weren't even working 100% after an entire half year. And the dungeon which took half a year to make turned out to suck, No one even tried to run it.
Population is like 1-3 people on at average, I very often was alone online. Peak hours It's around 3-6 on average but most of them are afk since theirs not much to do in the game.
Theirs a lot of corruptness from the DEV team too.
Their is NO LOOTING and PvP is RESTRICTED to very few PvP zones that no one ever goes to.
Have fun wasting your time testing the game. I saw hundreds of people come test the game out over my time playing LR, They all quit when the game is nothing what it was made to look like (UO). |

If what's being said is true...it's sounds like the game has changed a lot in the past couple of years. I used to play and enjoyed it immensely, found the devs to be very warm and friendly, and found many similarities to UO (they are DIFFERENT games after all), but I was quite pleased and excited with where LinkRealms might be going. Sad to hear it's taken what appears to be a "bad turn." :( President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club |
