I just changed my older Xbox for a slim one and was really close to get a PS3 instead. The main reason why I was so close is the blu ray player.
=> Simply put not only I don't have any room in my setting to add another external box (read blu ray player) but I also can't stand adding more messy cables nor another remote.
I guess MS will never ever add a blu ray player to the box and will keep saying: not needed you have netflix. Which at this point is false regarding not only the infrastructure isn't there, but not all blu ray movies are available through streaming. Furthermore, and not the least, it more than often would cost me half the price to rent a blu ray to my local blockbuster than the MS renting fee alone, not to speak about exceeding network bandwidth or getting a very high one.
There's also a huge edge for the PS3 over the Xbox it's the web browser. I regularly !@#$ against M$oft as they don't want us to be able to check our emails, meteo, whatever on our TV. No they want us to buy a PC and pay for their OS.
Honestly I can't wait to see Google Android massively installed on all HD TVs and you'll see who will be the winner in the home computer field. |

Maybe if they didn't charge the price of a fridge when they first released the PS3 they would have sold a lot more. Ten people who speak make more noise than ten thousand who are silent. |

Originally posted by DiSpLiFF For example I like much better the Xbox controller than the PS3 one. Also the PS3 was way overpriced at launch, vs the Xbox.
I might be wrong but if I remember well there were more games on Xbox than on PS3 initially.
BTW in your list you forgot "free" Wifi and HDMI port along blue tooth support. |

Originally posted by MystaIV This is the smartest quote here. We are all gamers, we are all going to play what we want. Until Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo start paying me for lip service, I am going to remain console neutral. Each console has their ups and downs, I don't care who has more units sold, or who has a bigger online population, or who is gonna outsell who. I am going to play the games I want to play regardless of platform. All the nitpicking and semantics going on about console gaming just gets annoying after awhile. In the MMO realm games are competing for your monthly sub, and that +1 to the server population so the wonderful discourse here is absoulutely necessary :P. I feel like I have to make a bigger commitment to a MMO than I do a game console. Just so I am not misunderstood, I do own all 3 systems plus I am a PC gamer (see, no time-space continuum distortions there, it's ok to do both). Both systems have been out for awhile now, so are threads like this even necessary? There's plenty of info out there for people. Magazines, Websites, etc. Or does someone have buyer's remorse and needs to justify it? I'd rather talk more about the games themselves than the platforms they are on. Current Games:EvE |

I sold my PS3 for these simple reasons.. I did't like the controler.. all games seem to have different configs and i found it to small and to light I found the games that i really like are on xbox 360... The ps network was not that great, and played up more than a few times. Most of all and the bigest issue i had by far was the chat.. oor lack of it. The xbox 360 is by far the better console for game with friends in group, and being a social gamer this wins hands down for me every time.. The PS3 with its blueray is good, and as a media tool its great.. blue ray films are the dogs. if thats your thing. It was.nt mine so it lost out to the 360.. thats all really |

Originally posted by SaintViktor why do you think the xbox sells "tens of thousends" systems more than PS3... they forgot to mention the PS# system lasts longer than the xbox. When the red ring of death of the xbox gets on, then u buy a new xbox. Now count how many people gets the red ring of death screw up their xbox and end up getting another xbox..... the company will count that as an increase of sales....(when what really happens is the same costumer had to buy a new system coz the old one screwd up before getting old) LOL. I have my PS2 and PS3 slim since they came out and its like new and and as of today all my friends that had xbox 360 have bought some 2, some 3 systems because of the red ring of death (and i play viciously more on my PS systems than they play their xbox 360's) |

Well now the PS3 has been cracked open wider than the grand canyon,i can see an Xbox 1 scenario Sony to all intense purposes removed other OS and pissed of lots's of very talented coders who were happily useing Linux, as in Xbox1 the console will sell like hot cakes just as Xbox 360 sales increased after drive firmware hacks. Then Geohotz cracked the PS3 Sony responded by removeing other OS hence pissing off the talented coders who banded together and in under a year now have full access to Hypervisor and full root access, suffice to say i'll now be getting a PS3 as now i have a full fledged media centre with full admin access SONY must now be kicking them selves or the douche who turned harmless homebrew linux coders into an army of hackers

Originally posted by aleos I need to see more last guardian gameplay before forming an opinion on it to be honest. I traded in my 360 for a PS3 not so long ago and i'm happy with it. Sony just needs better games and make the PS3 a more social platform. |

Originally posted by SaintViktor This is not the first time that analysts and soe have stated that the ps3 would overtake this that or the other thing. Nothing yet has come of it and the ONLY reason why the PS3 may see an uptick in sales is not because of the quality of the software (Lord knows the idea of exclusivity is counterproductive to game studios endeavoring in an hostile economic environment to generate profits and revenues that will allow them to continue development) it is solely because of the possible jailbreak. If it is that easy to be hacked and if they have actually succeeded where people for years have failed then everyone will rush out to buy one because then they will never have to buy a game that they do not want. Which, while giving Sony initial sales of the consoles and accessories will eventually hurt their bottom line. One of the reasons is that each game sold gives royalties to the console manufacturer's (something which does not happen on the PC by the way hehe). In order to make a game for any of the consoles you have to pay the manufacturer for the privelege. Now, if your platform has lost all security and the numbers of games being sold decreases by a significant margin then no developer in the right mind would pay to develop for it. So, the era of exclusivity could come back, very much in favor of Microsoft and the 360. At least until the next series of consoles is prepped for release, and while they said they weren't going to for several more years something like the jailbreak could be incentive enough for Sony to push the PS4 years ahead of schedule. |
