I thought everyone knew 95% of female characters are guys IRL. |

An interesting title, followed by a awful discussion premisis. :( I'd imagine female gamers don't get that much more attention unless they are seeking it. This probably works in both postive and negative ways. I know some people who believe women are not as good at video games and so first impressions they are ranked lower than guys as far as ability. He who keeps his cool best wins. |

The only attention I get is from people who make these kinds of threads.
Do people on fighting game forums constantly ask why male players pick Chun Li or Noel all the time too? |

I wonder what people who play Tomb Raider think. The only time I have ever seen any attention to this topic is on the forums. I have never, ever, seen it come up in any game I have played. |

seems like male gamers still have a long way to go when it comes to just accepting a gamer as just a damn gamer. I married 1 and raised 2.

Originally posted by Ramonski7 I just think it's way overblown, a forum topic. It never is an issue in game. I mean lets say someone is playing wow. You play a tauren, now is it really an issue for someone whether they are male or female? I mean there is no connection whatsoever to a tauren because it's a mythical creature and could never be related to. Perhaps there should be an androgynous race. |

Originally posted by arenasb Nah it's still an issue, believe that. Whether we're playing WoW, EQ2-X or any other mmo. First thing players want to do is "introduce" themselves to female toons. Luckily I've educated both my girls (13 and 17) enough to sterr clear of creeps that approach them with small talk followed by the inevitable statement of s/l?

This topic re-appear from time to time because of attention deprived persons.(see what i did there?) Now, this people are from both genres, but if they're female they will immediatly get more attention because of obvious factors like the percentage of males in mmos and age. |

no additional attention should be gained by the use of a female avatar. In my experience, no one pays attention to my avatar. Now, if I were to start talking like a girl (and its all kinds of creepy when guys pretend to be girls) I might get more attention... I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote. |

It's a game. Not Match.com. Why would I care what your real gender is? I will never understand the male gamer that is obsessed with knowing the real gender of another player. i'm looking forward to giving TOR a try. if you can help do a mission, and you're not an a-hole, please join my group. don't care if in real life you are fat, skinny, rich, poor, young, old, male, or female. |

I play female characters all the time...and I get zero attention from it.
which is how it should be on forums as well.
really, who truly gives a flying one about who plays what? |

There are really many players curious about other player's gender, I mean, at least in WoW. I can say there are also many girl play male characters in WoW. LOL |

Different communities react differently to the use of female avatars in games. Most MMO's communities probably don't have any problems with the idea of a guy looking at a female characters rear end all day. I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote. |

I've played wow and never had anyone treat my female characters any differently then my male ones, nobody ever asked me if I was a girl in real life, this "people treat females characters different" thing is just a lie, or just a really old thing, so people who have played MMO's for a very long time might think there is a difference.

I'm a dude. I played a female iksar until i was stalked...I play only male toons now. Recently in my FFXIV linkshell about half the mi'qote were actual females the rest males. Funnily enough the big freakish roegadyn was a girl. It does irritate me when people run around naked in female avatars, regardless of the sex playing them. |

Originally posted by tank017 That's some awesome tail right there..... I've played female toons and I'm a guy. Did have the odd guy assume I'm a chick and try shit but they back off real quick when I tell em "back off, I've got a crank". I find nowadays the only women who seem to get this "treatment" are the ones who seek it out, regardless of how much denying they do. Had a guild in various games that was made of an even mix of men and women of all ages and have seen attention seekers on both sides, regardless the age. No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga- |
