I had high hopes the Cata cinematic would somehow be better than the rest. Maybe showcase the new races like they did in BC. The dialogue was on par with something lame you would hear in the transformers cartoons from the 80's. Yeah the animation was spectacular but I was hoping for more.
You be the judge

I like it. Love them or loathe them, they are masters of building hype.

I agree it didn't feel as epic as some of the previous ones, but it is still pretty damn good. I like that they showed him doing some of the damage you'll see in the game. Current: None |

I agree it could've been better, however I think it is the second best of wow cinematics: Order from favorite to least: BC, Cata, Vanilla, Wotlk, I thought the Wotlk one could've been 100% better. However, all the WoW cinematics are below WC3 ones, especially Thralls Dream, Archimonde destroying Dalaran, Arthas killing his dad, Grom killing Mannoroth, and the first time we see Illidan as a demon summoning the Naga. All those felt deep, made me go oooh aaah, and created a strong emotion within me. All wow cinematics are just pretty and extremely predictable.

Having watched them all again now, it follows a BC, WoW, LK...and this intro - well, it is just an intro and all that - I sneezed the first time and had to watch it again... edit - though depending on one's definition of "Epic", LK would be at the top of that list. Cata would still be...well, in denial. I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20% |

I know what you mean, It might have helped others see what you ment if you had posted all the other cinematics for the comparison. I do agree that was pretty weak for WoW, the first one and BC where much, much better. |

BC with the Sheep and the Hellfire of the Murlocs was "Epic" lolz. The first one was an "Epic" introduction. LK at least made an attempt at "Epic" story. Cata... DW leaves DH - the world got shattered. Think of all those NBC Sunday Night cataclysmic movies 10, 10.5, and the like. This one could have been "Epic"... instead of just... well... I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20% |

They definitely could have done better with this and it felt way too underwhelming.
Though i have to disagree with the op that the cinematics got worse with each ex-pack. Felt the LK one was way better than TBC's. It had better background music and i loved how Arthas fulfilled his father's prophecy albeit in a rather twisted way. |

I still think the original cinematic was the best. Anyway, this wasn't bad and technically it looked great. Love them or hate them you have to admit that Blizzard's cinematic team is top notch. |

Originally posted by VirusDancer Did I say they were the absolute best? No, but they are certainly up there with anyone regarding game cinematics. BTW, those cinematics you just posted are made by a separate company that specializes in animation. |

Originally posted by arenasb Difference on meaning of terms then. You said top notch. To me that is best. To you it is not. Aside from that, you put them up there with anyone. I would not. But that is just a difference of opinion on a subjective matter. As for the topic, have not seen anybody that has liked the lil' Cata tidbit more than the previous movies - though people will always have their favorites from among the previous offerings. I loved the cinamatic. In fact I like the Wotlk one and this one the most. The way they did deathwing being rebuild and the whole of azeroth shattering was really cool. His voice is pretty badass, but not as badass as the lich king ;). This cinematic actually made me more interested in deathwing. |

The quality of it, was again, top notch. But blur makes epic ones.
The make up if, however, was not. I think it was well below the past three movies for Blizzard, well below the TOR ones, and even below the DC universe one. Prolly a few others too. WotLK and BC had great ones. This one is just...ho hum. No mention of the races, no mention of the fighting. Just the dragon. DotDotDot. |

It shows pretty much that some people despise Blizzard that much they lost all sense of taste and reference. Like I said in the general thread: it shows Blizzard has outgrown this terrible state of mmo game design. Both in revenue as in game mechanics. Sad but true. |
