I was wondering, what is the best tanking class now ? I was wondering if pally is still good for tanking ? Or, is warrior better ? |

The absolute best tank class is Warrior, but SK & Paladins both have excelled in the group game. So if you're doing group content, all 3 tank classes can do their jobs very well. If you are thinking about being the main tank for a raid guild however, warriors are what you want.
Each tanks have perks & things they excel in the group game. SK for an example are great at fast agro, pulling, and self buffs. Paladins are great if you're killing undeads, and they got the fastest agro gaining out of the 3. Warrior on the other hand does more dps than the others. Do yourself a favor, don't play a Warrior, they plain suck unless you are 1 of 4 warriors on the entire server in the top two guilds. SK solo/duo is the best of the three. SKs easily out DPS warriors due to their spells and superior 2hs weapons available for much less than a warrior weapon. If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1) |

Originally posted by sebbonx be wary though, posts like this can be misleading. Yes a SK for duo-ing is nice, but you still need a healer to back you up, either in a player shammy or a cleric merc. Dps is dependant on Gear and AA. if your slinging spells everywhere your still going to have some downtime. it's not like EQ "gives" you stuff, you gotta fight for every anything you try and get. |

Of the three he is correct though, a Warrior is the MOST dependant of the three on gear and you aren't going to get the gear with any of the three. You won't have the AA's for a top guild and if you group gear either Knight is better than a Warrior in a group tanking situation. Do yourself a real favor play a Mage with a Cleric Merc! |

We're 2 couple going to play, to old veteran going back. I was too young to understand to grind and raid, soo I've lvled paladin to 30, Rogue to 55, Cleric to 67 Those were mostly my prefered. I love tanking My wife is going for healer, probably Cleric. My friend is going for enchanter and his girlfriend is probably going for an easy DPS. (probably a caster, no need to move much) We're waiting for house of thule to release to buy it and get the 2-3 expansions we didn't bought yet and start 2 brand new account for our girls. We will fill up the 2 remaining spot with anyone online or with DPS mercs. So, I was strongly thinking going for paladin, but still, I don't really think I will be ablle to catch up to raid, but I still dream of it. is it a good choice ? Or I need to go for warrior for the tiny chance i may raid. |

You only really need to go warrior if you think you may want to main tank for a raid guild. If you'll mostly be playing group content with your family & friends, and you may join a raid guild later on but may not want to main tank in raids, then a paladin will do fine. Since NDA dropped with beta, I can say Paladins got some really really nice upgrades in House of Thule EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

Play the Paladin, seriously you won't ever be a main tank, there is no way it is happening. You need 1000's of AA's and what happens if against all hope the cleric dies? You can rez and then the cleric can rez herself again to erase the minor exp loss. A warrior adds NOTHING to the group, Paladin has the best aggro, and can slap on the all might LoH when the going is to tough. Warrior brings NOTHING, don't play one! Have the friend playing the caster DPS be the Mage, then if you go down the pet can tank, I warn you the pets are pretty powerful and it may tank more than you like. |

Thx for all the advice. I will go Paladin then, Sound good like this. On a side note, is soloing a rogue viable ? I would love to lvl a rogue again, loved those. I thought I could get a Tank merc and play with my rogue, is it good ? Or should I dual box with my wife PC. (like a combo of Mage and rogue ? with a Merc healer and maybe a second merc ? |

Originally posted by thedrakon A tank merc should be able to hold agro so your rogue can backstab, so that may work out well. Mage pets are powerful and strong, but they don't work well with melee dps since mobs will most like turn to you and you won't be able to backstab well. If you want to utilize mage pet tanking, it's best done with other casters or ranged dps. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

Pets can no longer tank and hold aggro. They used to and I remember having one MT in a group with 3 warriors and a Mage. But it can't be done now. Rogues can "solo" with a melee merc till I hear level 70 or so, then it won't work. |
