In choosing a class to play there is a lot people look for. I personally enjoy playing melee characters. I like to get in there and fight it out. It always made me feel like I was a real part of the action. With always choosing a melee class there is always the death from afar feeling when facing down mages or ranged opponents. MMOs have done a horrible job in balancing melee and ranged classes. TERA, on the other hand, has invested many classes into the Melee category. There is the Lancer, Berserker, Warrior, and Slayer. Each has a certain play style to it and al the classes are fun, at least based on the demos we have played. Today let us look at the Lancer.

The lance is a weapon strictly for mounted action and pretty much useless in melee action.  Granted it is a fantasy game, but I still have to scoff at such a ridiculous class.

How does their arm hold up that huge lance?

Not a great write up, nothing really interesting to tell.  The lancer is your normal tank class, and yes that lance is huge.  Tera is a fantasy game and I don't mind the big weapons.  I still think this game is going to be very popular, due to the combat and gameplay. 

He isn't gonna stick you with the lancer, he is gonna beat you over the head with it :)

why is he holding a heavy lance in 1 hand? it had to be 2 hands ;/

sure it's your standard tanking class but it looks so damn cool :).

Think of it as a large rapier. Or spear.

Its just another weapon for tiny diked old men to make them feel like they can get it up again.

Maybe it is a very low gravity planet?

Or the lance is filled with helium?

Or it is just purely based on magic, maybe Lancers are Mages at heart and are wielding such huge oversized weapons due to their magic.

I don't entirely disagree though.  I love lances and knights, would have been nicer to see the lance included in the true form as a mounted weapon of pure and utter devastation.  Makes it situational, but why can't the lancer use a sword or mace when on foot then.

Mages shooting fire OK. Spawning mounts from your pockets OK. Weilding a lance WTF THAT AINT RIGHT!

It's a FANTASY game, I don't know many FANTASY games that are bases on reality, do you?!

It sounds like it will play like Hellgate and Borderlands... and not have that annoying auto lock that makes games less immersive and boring... well at least for me it does.  I'll give it a try... and yeah I say it's a fantasy game... remember we do this to escape from reality... so what if it's an ubber long lance that's not mounted... if it's unrealistic?... so what, isn't that the point of escapism into MMORPGs?  (These are rhetorical questions and merrit no answers, let them stand as my opinionated statements... thanks)

Mentioned already, but the GIANT lance looks fecking retarded. Even for a fantasy like this, it's comical. Not to mention lances are supposed to be used from horseback. Again, I understand that it's a fantasy, but STILL.

The bigger the weapon... Please devs just invest in some prolixus or Extendz...

Anywho..

I think the teeny vids on the website scale the lances more reasonably.
