Originally posted by Asm0deus i think the lack of people chatting or helping out in chat is a lot of people are actually using gamepads instead of keyboard i imagine it would be a pain to put down the gamepad to pick up keyboard and type. than pick gamepad back up. But I use just the keyboard to play and am having a lot of fun in game. yes the ui is slow and laggy but it is the only UI that allows me to play using only the keyboard the way i like to play the most. FFXI introduced me to playing this way and i have been disapointed in every other game that i had to use the mouse and couldn't map my keys to hte point that i didn't need to use the mouse. |

Originally posted by xpiher lol xipher are you quitting darkfall for FFXIV? But you're right most people don't realize that the game came out on PS2 in Japan a year before that.. FFXIV as far as development goes is LIGHTYEARS ahead of FFXI @ beta when I played it. I have played FFXI since then.. i can't freaking wait for this release(did play some darkfall too for my pvp fix). |

Originally posted by segyn Everyone chats in linkshell. Public isn't the place to chat. It's probably more a Japanese thing then it is a Controller thing. I have a wireless keyboard in my lap and chat with my linkshell all the time =/ Its the same way in FFXI. Talk in /tells use shouts for Seeking for parties for events or what not, get help from your linkshell. No one talks in /say like in the barons in FFXI. If you're in party you use party chat. Just the way it is. Get use to it. and talking in shout is considered rude. Most of the japanese people will even apologize for using /shout at all. |

Christmas might be too early of a release for the game at this point. Major improvments are needed. Good luck to them. I live in Tokyo so I should go to the office and just ask them, "what the hell is going on?" - ya I'm here |

The only piece of advice I can give to people experiencing major lag is to take the time to adjust your graphics settings. Turning off Ambient Occlusion first was my start and it took care of 90% of my character lag. As far as the server lag, that's an entirely different issue. |

"It's still in beta" doesn't cut it anymore. Why would they release the OPEN Beta so close to release date? Are they going to pull an all nighter to fix everything, add more content? The OB is pretty much the final product with a few content not released yet. "Patches" Open Beta started the First of September. Release date is the 22nd of September. The early access is like what? A week before offical release? The game isn't developed and lts really close to release date. |

Originally posted by Hyanmen Ok saying it needs a year is really an over exaggeration. No doubt they could use an extra month or 2 to clean up some stuff but I dont think that will be stopping many from buying it on launch day. Alot are playing everyday and seem to be having fun. My entire company I am in will be there at launch day 1 like alot of other companies will be. No doubt I see some patches in the first month of launch being issued. |

Can someone tell me if the UI in FF XI is slow and laggish as it is in FF XIV? Does it take forever to scroll down a list or display server-side information? |

Originally posted by Ikkei It most certainly is not. FFXI is a great game, smooth transitions through menus and controls and battle settup actually better. |

I noticed people making comparisons to other betas in this thread (Warhammer, Vanguard, AoC being popular ones). Being that I've played in many betas (not Vanguard, but have played in closed betas of Warhammer and Age of Conan) I can tell you for me personally that both Age of Conan's and Warhammer's betas were MUCH more playable for me. Not only do I receive consistent crashes, frame rate issues, (changing graphic's settings do not help, the problem here is my processor, FFXIV refuses to make full use of my graphic cards), and game breaking bugs, but as a programmer I see lots of faults with the system other people probably wouldn't realize. I've had a bug where I couldn't resurrect my character, because I happened to be returning as I was killed, which now renders that character completely unplayable without GM intervention or a level 38 Tham. It wasn't the worst beta I've played in. I've had far worse experiences like Anarachy Online, but it is a lot worse than most betas. That's just my personal experience, but a lot of people within my linkshell are having similar problems, causing them to log off for night. For a beta, it's also very odd we have absolutely no means to report feedback or bugs, since SE only let a select few testers in older versions report feedback. Let's hope the JP players are doing a good job sending feedback, concerns, and bug reports on issues they encounter. That said I still haven't lost hope in the game. I don't expect it to be in a good state on release, but I'm guessing by the time the PS3 release rolls around the game should be in pretty good shape and fun to play. In the meantime we have the opportunity to level our jobs up and be far ahead of those who waited till PS3 release. |

All I can say about the game so far is it has been the most difficult to download. I have not even been able to test it. |

The FFXIV Official Benchmark is one of the best CPU benchmarking programs, it seems. And the game isn't much different.
It's wonderful making this discovery right after you bought a second video card and new PSU in anticipation of this game, and crying. Oh well, the new PSU comes in tomorrow, so I'll be slapping her in to power my dual 5770s. Hoping for the best.
P.S., even if it really is so dependent on the CPU.. I have an i7 930, so it shouldn't be giving me half the trouble that it is... sigh. SE has just completely botched this, as far as programming goes. "He who cannot draw on 3,000 years is living hand-to-mouth." -Goethe |

Originally posted by Plutarch im sure the game is being made with the cell processor in mind, considering the PS3 version of the game is going to be the landslide popular version for the game in japan (this games largest market)...... therefore, current PC tech is probably ill equipped to handle what the game is doing, considering the cell has 8 cores, and at most you can have 4 in todays MAINSTREAM processors. that isnt an excuse.... it should have been developed independently for the PC so it ran well.... but that clearly isnt the case. all of that aside, the game doesnt run THAT BAD. come on guys, i have an E8400 which is dual core and i run the game maxed out and it is very playable. there is a lot of stuttering, which is an optimization issue, but it is still playable..... stop complaining because you are getting 40 FPS instead of 60..... |

Originally posted by Hyanmen I have to admit coming from you this does give me pause. I know you're a fairly big FF fan. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. I'm not sure what the deal is with the UI and "lag". Crafting is an absolute chore for me because of it. I'd say it takes a good minute to set up a consigned craft (leve?). Scrolling through my mats to put on my retainer is also insanely slow. Setting the retainer up for bazaar is infuriatingly slow. It is defintely something to do with communicating with the server though. (my R can spike to 947 while my S stays around 20-30) |
