I had high hopes for CO myself, but it (and STO) didn't fail because of WoW. If failed because there wasn't really anything compelling...you didn't get to develop your nemesis until too late in the game, the crafting system was confusing and relatively useless, and PvP was as problematic as Cryptic's first venture (CoX). The missions mostly felt the same. I was in the STO beta and quickly discovered that I was going to like STO even less. Both games suffered from highly repetitive adventures. STO even more so with the space combat. |

This is fairly common knowledge. So while the company name is the same, the people making the game are not. |

His basic problem is that he only wants to put in enough resources to make a Yugo...but he still thinks he can market and price it the same as a Mercedes....AND he's willing to tie up a top name IP with his bargin bin game. Honestly STO wasn't the worst game I had ever seen....it was, however, one of the worst let downs....or would have been had I not been following it closely during Development and knew what to expect from it. Had they made the exact same game, removed the Star Trek IP...and made it F2P with a standard cash shop (much as I loathe the model).... It probably wouldn't be any worse then the run of the mill F2P game (admitedly, not a high bar). But marketing it as a AAA title charging full price for the box and a standard Sub price on top, and then putting the cash shop they did in on top of that....not to mention selling life-time subs..... Let me just say, if some-one tried that in a card game.....that's usualy the point where, fists, bottles or bullets start flying. If they went with a B2P model for NWN....like Guild Wars does....and didn't price it obscenely or get to absurd about thier DLC. They might actualy have a model that was appropriate for thier Development style....except I don't think they have a chances in Hades of matching the same quality that GW2 sounds like it's going to have.....but we'll see. |

Cryptic remain erm... cryptic about pricing

It appears that Cryptic Studios hasn't settled on a business model for their new D and D project, Neverwinter. Their new co-op RPG title based on the ongoing saga of the Dungeons and Dragons city of Neverwinter may or may not feature a subscription of some kind. Cryptic COO Jack Emmert told Gamasutra: "I can guarantee you that we envision this as an online product that will continue to grow over time, that we continue to add content to." Carrying on in the same vein he added: "So whether it's subscription fee, whether it's free-to-play, whether it's microtransactions, whether it's pay-by-the-minute [laughs], whether it's some sort of Ponzi scheme that I haven't figured out, I don't know. None of that has been announced." Neverwinter is due out at the end of 2011 for the PC and will be based around five-player co-operative play. |

Yeah, I'm pretty much proof of how likely that is to happen. If you even try to do something that the devs won't do then they'll censor you and ban you because their moderators and forum team are fucking morons. I was one of the original supports of UGC, but mainly, Modifications to the game, I felt that cryptic weren't up to the task of doing a good job, so comparing what the community has done for games like Bridge Commander, SFC and Elite Forces it would be best if Cryptic gave up and let people who were actually tallented do the fucking job properly and quickly. Freaking amatures. I will admit though that the new guy seems a bit more understanding of what the community wanted, but he's unethetical in that he thinks everything can just be sold via the C-Store. I'm just glad to see they've got 85% Z turning in development, people wanted this since day 1 of beta- its pathetic that its taking this long for them to realize it. |

Originally posted by Mr_Cyberpunk DStahl isn't really new, just new to that spot; he was the one that got the flames stared when he gave the Podcast interview about the Klingons back around Dec. 13th of last year, and those wanting to focus on the Klingon faction got their first taste of how little that faction would have. Around Dec. 15 things had gotten so ugly in the forums that Jack had to make a rare appearence and go into damage control mode, posting that he wasn't sure why the 'Klingon information blitz' hadn't started and he began to give interviews to try and sell how great the Klingons would be (along with DStahl). I must admit, I am surprised they actually changed their minds about increasing movement to be closer to 3D; as little as two months ago, they were still getting touchy when the subject was brought up and keeping to their general canned responses on the subject. "Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan |
