Just started watchin FireFly, AMAZING show, couldnt help but think that that show would make the perfect MMO. I guess multiverse started and then gave up (Like the show). That is the best hope there was for a western MMO |

Space ships aside, Fallen Earth is not that far off to the atmosphere in Firefly. ............. |

yes lets give an MMO company another great IP to destroy and run through the mud. |

I don't believe any game company could do the IP justice. I would hate to see a game made from Firefly. I enjoy the shows and the movie. The game would suck, I think. |

Firefly has a *lot* in common with the Traveller pencil and paper RPG. The few games I played ended up being based around the trading minigame at their core: you arrive at a port and there would be a random assortment of passengers and cargo and you'd figure out what you could take on to systems within reach of your ship's engines that could net you the most (if any) profit. Then and see if there were any side jobs or harvesting you could do with your shuttles and ATVs (if you had fancy world-vehicles). Since ships cost a lot of money over time to maintain and fuel (especially if you got shot at), running out credits was always a real danger. Little if any skill advancement after character creation (you were typically a cached out soldier and character creation was essentially rolling up how your pre-adventuring career and training went and what your pension was) - a quirk was that you could die in character creation if you risked too many tours of duty. Quests in published games were usually set up as hook + random twist (was the person who they really said they were, were they lying about the challenge, are there any competitors, legal complications, etc?) . It had a wonderful way of classifying the physics of planets and the culture/tech of populations living on them - you could run into everything from clubs to pasma cannons. Players would usually go in unarmed trade ships because although you could do space combat, the risks and repair bills were very high. |

Would it be a fun sandbox? Sure. Do you suppose the fanbase could agree on any part of how this would be translated? Nope. I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil |

I'm thinking the big deal with the Firefly series was the super-character synergy. That was the best character drama I've ever seen. Somehow everyone they chose was a casting win. Other than that it was space-opera cowboys. Been done a bazillion times, and better at that. Don't get me wrong though. I love Firefly. I just don't think there is an MMORPG there. |

Besides the fact that I would love to play a FireFly MMORPG, I also wish the tards at Fox would pick the show up again, if possible. MOrons cancelled the show because they had horrible advertisement and bad time slot on top of going by an outdated ratings system(nielsen's ratings) to gauge the success of the show. Time has shown that it is a cult classic now. Same for that show Arrested Development. I knew tons of people who loved that show, and Fox canned it. Anyway, back on topic. Someone said Fallen Earth is similar in atmosphere. It really isn't. Fallen Earth reminds me more of Fallout than anything else, on top of the fact that it sucks. But yeah, they could really have fun with the FireFly universe. Plenty of "bad" guys in it and ships and weapons and planets, even politics and being an outlaw or being part of the "alliance" heheh. OP, have you seen the movie yet? Serenity? It's good. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_(franchise) "On December 8, 2006, The Multiverse Network announced that it had obtained the rights from Twentieth Century Fox to develop a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) based on the series. As of 2008, little progress has been made. On 3 September, 2008, as part of a press release announcing the development of an MMOG based on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series, Multiverse stated that work on the Firefly MMOG had been delayed as there were "some issues that need to be worked through", although some gaming news sites have expressed doubts, based on the lack of progress with the Firefly MMOG, about whether or not it will be completed or released" Spoiler, it was not completed. :) Anyway, they tried to get the funding and failed it seems. |

I really would love a Firelfy MMO, I've cooked up ideas for one before. It'd have to be a small scale sandbox thing, but it could be awesome. Copy and Paste from my old notes: Firefly "Love not only bears with others' faults, but cheerfully submits to whatever suffering or inconvenience that such forbearance makes necessary." |

I liked it better the first time when it was called Cowboy Bebop. |

Firefly was a great show, but there's really not enough in it to support an MMO. MMOs need many stories going on at once. Firefly had a singular story to tell. Important facts: |

Oh man, I love Firefly and Serenity, but I'd hate to see them try to make an MMO out of it. Current: None |
