i'm looking for a new mmo! i loved wow to death got to end game raiding in bc and wotlk but am no longer feeling the love its just become far too easy to complete end game content i want a game that is really a challenge with a decent player base any suggestions? |

No mmorpg has ever been challenging. Time =/= challenge. |

In general I would agree with this, but there have been a few MMOs that have distinct challenges. Ryzom's crafting was challenging in both the gathering of materials and also the experimentation of combinations to get the best armor/weapons. Some people shared "recipes" but the best ones were kept secret. Darkfall's mobs are more challenging because they usually spot you before you spot them and are much stronger than your average MMO's mobs. They also kite you and run and get backup. I would even throw Vanguard's diplomacy in there since it was unique and took some time to learn. All of these, though, can be overcome and after a while cease to be challenging without new content being added. Current: None |

I didn't like LOTRO when it came out because the first 20 levels felt a lot like WoW - and I was still playing WoW at the time. I thought "Hell, if I'm going to play something LIKE WoW, I'm going to just play WoW where I already *have* high level characters and a bunch of friends." 18 months ago, I quit playing WoW. 2 months ago, I picked my LotRO sub back up, and it doesn't feel like WoW any more. It still is a Fantasy Quest Based Game, but after a break (and an additional three years and two expansions worth of development) the differences from WoW stand out more than the similarities. Apart from LOTR you could try FF14 although it's a bit of a specialised niche market. There is also SW:TOR due out next year at some point if you want to wait that long.
If you want a MMO that will test you out, then try EVE if into space and everything it offers. Slow to get going, but give it a month or two and you will be hooked on it, I know I was. |

If you have a good rig I'd give AoC a try until one of those new and flashy AAA MMO gets released. |

Are you looking for pvp or pve mostly? Casual, solo, group, raid? Without knowing more of what you are looking for I can say the following. If you are looking for a game that offers something similar to wow then lotro is a good choice. You will be familiar with the gameplay mechanics very quickly, but the world will feel pretty different. It has a more story forcused approach to gameplay which is nice and less reliance on magic and mystic creatures. It is really the only fantasy game on the market that comes close to wow in terms of quality.
If you are looking for something that is different from wow then maybe DDO is a good choice. It focuses more on dungeons with problems to figure out and again slighly on a story. It isn't about living in a huge world to explore though. It is a bit cumbersome to learn, because the game is hobbled by converting pen&paper rules to an mmo.
As others have said, you are not really going to find a game that is more difficult. The best you will find is games that require more time to get something done or have more cumbersome mechanics that make it feel more laborious to get the same thing done.
