I beleive in life before death... So dont forget to enjoy it while you still can. |
Just wondering what kind of gamers are going to play GW2.
I myself prefer to play for the social contacts i am mostly a PvE player, when soloing i love to explore new area's and share my experiences with my guildmates in guildchat when exploring i love to mellee, when grouping i love to keep other players alive as a support player that prefers crowd controll and healing meanwhile keeping an eye at the situation and warning everyone for potential danger. I am the kind of player that tries to stay alive first and kill seccond...
Sometimes i want to PvP, but i don't like when PvP interferes with my PvE, my best PvE experiences dates all teh way back to DAoC with my sorcerer. Again in PvP my chore buiseness is trying to stay alive... I hate people that keep doing suicide runs just to get one or two kills.
Next to this i am a roleplayer at heart and i will allways roleplay in /say /shout and /emote ..... Mostly i use guild, party, world and zone chat to communicate OOC.
Most of all i am an altoholic, the only game that i never needed to create an alt was guildwars, i kept experimentating with my 2nd classes all the time... every new spec made the character feel different .... i somehow hope to find that in Guildwars 2 where i could have 1 character that could Mellee with one spec, range DPS with another spec, crowd controll with several specs... well you get the point i think... i hope that i can build a lot of diversity in my character. Most important tough is just having FUN for an hour or two on weeknights en several more hours in the weekend.
So now you all know what kind of gamer i am.... Which makes me wonder what kind of gamer other GW2 fans are ? Please take some time in this thread and tell us what kind of gamer you are.......
Currently i am a super hero in DCUO. |

I've mostly been a solo player for most of my time in GW. I hope I don't have that kind of bad luck in GW2. I really enjoy group content more. I'm a big pvper, but I enjoy pve just as much. I'm also an altoholic and I'm always indecisive about my characters. I'm fairly experienced with MMOs and I could become a hardcore pvper or pve'r depending on the guild I'm in, I also learn pretty fast. (Thanks to FPS games on the side, I guess?) I enjoy helping new people and anyone who doesn't act like a douche bag. Aside from all that, I'm really really lazy and can't stay focused on getting important stuff done that benefits in the long run. Don't ask me for money. |

100% pvp, generally only willing to take part in pve if it results in some kind of reward useable in pvp.
Prefer team based play over solo play every time, with emphasis on guild groups and VC.
In terms of general mmos, it's sandbox games with FFA pvp all the way for me. GW2's dynamic system, pvp combat and ANets attempts at innovation as opposed to stagnation is what appeals to me. Future: GW2/DF Relaunch/WoD |

I usually play with 1 to 3 other players. Rl friends of me. GW is perfect for that. We could always fill the rest of the team with heroes or before that with henchmen. We are also so used to play in the same team, so that challenges which are made for full groups, we can do with just 3 (after some trying of course). Like in Underworld or Fissure of Woe before heroes were allowed in (before Nightfall was released). I usually put more hours in MMO's, so in lvlbased MMO's I usually get ahead of my friends. In some games this is simply a problem because of the way they nerf XP when the lvldifference of teammembers is too large. In GW that was never a problem and I hope it wont be either in GW2. If it is, then I hope they introduce some kind of mentoring system like in EQ2. While I can be very picky about MMO's, my friends have already a blast if we can play together. So I have no doubt that they will like GW2 :p . But if they are forced to solo their way through GW2 because of lvl difference, then they might not stay. |

First off i wil be playing GW2 no doubt about that :P So yeah, about being either a PvP or PvE kind of guy... For me it really depends on the mood I am in. I love being melee, generally assassins. I like to go up to the guy, do some kung fu crazy ass stuff and kill him. :) I'm pretty cool with most ppl. I hate douches, smartasses, and ppl who insult others for trying something different. I generally help others, I enjoy a team who make jokes and doesn't take the game that srsly, and yeah. I look forward to playing. |

A casual MMO player, generally solo in PvE: I like a realised world with loads of stories and lore besides the flashy graphics and polygon hills, exploring different areas and finding your way around the map coming across new stories is my preferred PvE with lots of converstation snippets on all sorts of topics. I'd happily search for lost tomes and read pages of stories and info on the world, talking to various character and hearing their concerns and cares and histories or rumours etc, so level progression and xp farming has never been that interesting to me nor grindy end-game or loot even, unless there is a good story to it with a sinister multiple plot mystery to uncover and solve. Most of all I enjoy casual PvP the most, such as RvR in Daoc or WAR and can see myself spending most of my time playing that content WvW. I like huge battles to take control of keeps and gain more territory than the "hated" enemy or routing every single last one of them and teaming up with a load of other players committed to this defending or attacking a keep and rally the realm to war. Guilds tend to enhance this gameplay with better cooperation and communication keeping status updates on the enemies movements and planning "the biggest ambush anyone has ever dared" etc! Generally a ranged character has been most useful for shooting out/in keeps, but with the weapons system, it could be interesting seeing what else is available? I'm also that player hiding up a tree for an hour or so waiting to ambush you... Populous: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1014633/Classic-Game-Postmortem |

I play MMOs with a few close friends, and am heavily invested in the story/RPG side of the MMO - I prefer the company of others, so I don't like single-player RPGs and must rely on MMOs for my story fix. I don't put in hours upon hours pursuing shiny things, and don't have much time to play in extended sessions at any rate, so I might put in 2 hours a night one week, and 1 hour total another week. I like to explore, but am not driven by exploration achievements and don't need to be the "first" person to discover a nook or cranny. I play at my own, leisurely pace, so the ability to sidekick up or down will be most welcome for myself and my friends. Additionally, I am an alt-aholic, with a handful of favored classes I like to play, and I like to experiment with different races/classes/looks. Having multiple paths of advancement is a must for me as a result, as I abhor repetition. In short, I feel GW2 will be perfect for my needs, as I won't feel driven to rush to max level and end-game content, I will be able to explore a personal, changing story at my own rate, I can start multiple characters and experience different content, I won't have to worry about outleveling or being outleveled by my friends, and I can achieve all of this in small bursts of playtime over an extended period. Edit: I also am a casual PvPer. I used to avoid it like the plague, and I don't feel organized match PvP is for me, but after Warhammer I realize there is a place in my heart for large-scale objective-based PvP, where everyone has something to contribute and it isn't just an open-world gankfest nor a tightly-coordinated arena-based Vent-required affair. I am hoping the Mists delivers on that front, even if I have to wait until I am max level to fully contribute. |

I'm a pretty laid back player who likes to sit back and enjoy a good game. I really enjoy playing with others if it's a good group (both friendly / interesting personalities and intelligent). I enjoy group combat that requires thought and strategy. However, as was with GW1, I do get in moods where it's too difficult finding the above situation, and it's just easier to go on solo for a little while. I'm hoping GW2 has both, because each style of play has it's own merits, and I wouldn't like being stuck with either one by itself. |

I would say I am a group player. I prefer to group up and do difficult quests, or run dungeons, more than I prefer to solo quest or grind. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE group PvP. Solo PvP - hate it! But getting a group of friends/guildmates together to sneak into enemy territory to look for a fight, or organizing a huge raid on the enemy's base/fortress is just a huge amount of fun for me. In groups or raids I typically play the healer class, but I also loved ranged dps, usually a caster type. I'm with you Lord.Bachus, about the roleplaying. I started back in the day of MUDs when roleplaying WAS the major content of the game. I remember playing Gemstone, which had NO quests, NO dungeons, NO raids. It was just grinding for levels and roleplaying. But you know what, most of my 'fun' memories from gaming are from that game. Because the roleplaying that the players did made it a living, breathing community much better than any dev could have designed. GW2 really looks to be shaping up nicely. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hope to see you all there. |

I do PvE casually (infact I played the original Prophecies 6 times through with different characters) and I tend to do it with people I know. Solo PvE is not fun. I enjoy my PvP in groups aswell. Nothing gets in the way of PvP. Primarily high-end GvG for me. The challenge and the competition is part of the fun. And the rush you get from tournament fights... Hall of Heroes (or Heroes Ascent) or Team Arena for more casual group PvP. Random Arenas only to test stuff. I am a sucker for offensive casters leaning more to control and toolbox roles than actual DPS. I have recently tried playing more warrior and rogue-like classes in other games but I lose interest quickly. Warrior-roles are usually too simple and rogue-like classes are for cowards - plus you usually don't need much skill to be effective although player skill can be a plus. Warrior-roles are good when you don't want to think a lot. Playing a prot-monk in GW was fun but I usually leave healer-roles to others who do it better. When I do it - people know its not serious and they tend to die a lot. ...in many sad ways. ...and voice coms fills with laughter. I can just imagine their *facepalms*. I tend to look for the role that demands the most skill or is the most challenging. Mesmer was my absolute favorite followed closely by the necromancer. Runner roles were also fun when sometimes you could harass and duel enemy runners but normally I don't play much ranger-type classes. Whatever my preferences may be, I will play whatever is needed or ordered. Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. -Author unknown, attributed to Mark Twain |

I like PvP and PvE equally, really, the thing is though that in most MMOs the PvE just isn't enjoyable. Aka, it's just grinding. So I normally play PvP for a good amount after I reach max level until I get bored of the game. Guild Wars was a game I that had me mostly playing PvP, but for different reasons. The PvE content in Guild Wars was the best PvE content I've played in any MMO. It was group oriented, challenging and diverse. The campaigns were purely fun and played like a single player RPG while keeping what makes me enjoy MMOs, group content. But they're short, and there isn't much to do after the campaigns PvE wise other than grind. So I played PvP, and enjoyed myself very much for about 2 years or so until I finally started getting tired of it. Guild Wars was certainly the MMO with the most time spent on it on my part. There was a certain level of strategy in the high-level PvP content that wasn't existant in other MMOs. Teamwork was key. As I said, the fun I find it both PvP and PvE comes with grouping... I don't find dueling anywhere near as fun as group vs. group combat, nor do I find soloing as fun as group vs. massive number of enemies combat. I'm one of those MMO players that doesn't really get the preference of solo gameplay over group gameplay in an MMO. I get that its just all around easier to solo, both in time consumption and gameplay, so there's a convenience to it. But I don't see how those things can make the game more fun than playing with a group of other competent players... a game having all of its content soloable is a great feature if only for the fact that people generally don't have the time to find a group, but I don't see it as a full replacement. If people can do one or the other I just don't see the enjoyment of solo content over group content, if only the MMO has a horrible grouping system or absolutely atrocious community (though, even in the worst MMO communities, you can find fun people to play with relatively easily). I just don't get why people would want to play an MMO if they don't want to be a part of the community... it all goes back to that question of why play the MMO over a single player RPG if you're not working with other people?

I'm not much of a competitive pvp player but I do enjoy the casual pvp. What I enjoyed most about GW pvp was that everyone was on an equal footing, which was quite a change from all of the other mmos that I had played. Now we haven't heard a lot about the WvW realm but from the limited information about it I can see myself playing there quite a bit. I always enjoyed the RvR lakes in Warhammer and AV in Wow and this sounds like it is something similar, except on a much more massive scale. I enjoy PVE but not raid style pve. Small groups and just exploration is what I really enjoy about the PVE. It sounds like GW2 will cater just for me in that respect. |

I'm more of a solo-small group pve type player mostly. I'll spent most of my time running around and having fun with the dynamic events/running the dungeons, etc. I'm usually either the badass that carries everyone through a challenge solo, or a strong team player depending on my teammates :p. I'll pvp too, but I'm not too into the esport/hypercompetitive aspects, so I doubt I'll be doing much GvG or arena style games. However, I like open battlefield type pvp and world pvp - so I'll probably spend a good amount of time in W v W. To sum up, I enjoy challenging myself, but don't as often enjoy directly competing with others. My most social experience (and probably the most fun for me) is when I have a LAN party at a friend's house and we all play in the same room, or when I'm at home we'll chat on vent while playing. Other than that I'm usually only especially social when it suits my mood - however the town minigames sound like something I'll do now and again. |

Guild Wars was my first experience of multi player gaming, I played it solidly for almost four years, a few hours most week nights and expanded sessions at the weekend, for that reason I'm particularly fond of the lore of GW and excited to see Anet doing such a great job with its successor. I'll be playing it as I did GW, 90% PvE and 10% PvP. I'm in a great guild in GW and I'm really looking forward to playing alongside them all again. In GW it was all about unlocking content and beating the harder content, probably played it 45% achiever, 20% explorer, 30% socializer and 5% Killer. GW2 on the other hand will see achiever go way down while explorer, socializer and killer all go up (looking forward to mists PvP). I'll be playing some RP, something I never did in GW but GW2 has such good support for it, how can I not? I have several alts in GW, my main is my namesake and Necro, second favourite would be my Ritualist closely followed by Monk with my Ele and Tank being a close fourth. I was an armour whore in GW1 I doubt that will change in GW2. I enjoy the company of others whether that's just over guild chat or in groups, I'm expecting dynamic events will be a great way to see spontaneous grouping evolve and the side kick system means you'll never have to worry about inviting a friend a long. Its B2P model means we'll have our fair share of the ignoramus and immature but that will just make us appreciate the cool folk more. In short - exploring, socialising, building my character, killing stuff and smiling a lot with people who do the same :)

I'm that casual schizophrenic MMO gamer that you love so much. One day I'm tactical and calculating, doing everything right and totally ending everything that crosses my path, the next day I'm running into everything head first without thinking 'cos I just want to play around. I'm that guy you want in your team because I can think up extremely wacky strategies that probably definitely maybe might not work but sometimes they surprisingly do. I'm also that guy that loves making controversial builds that make "elitists" scream for mercy and "noobs" ask to see my build. Without me, your party is incomplete. This is not a game. |

I'm a strange one when it comes to the type of MMO player I am. I'm highly methodical, I like to figure out how every little detail works, and then optimize my gameplay around the data I've collected. This tend to push me one of two things: either PvP or crafting. In most games its usually crafting because the PvP is crap and imbalanced, but in the original GW it was PvP. I basically ran my own GvG guild for a while, where I could build extremely complex and effective team builds. It was also PvP in GW1 because the crafting there was next-to non-existent. That said, I'm also AD/HD, so I get bored quickly with repetitive tasks, so I don't really like grinding and farming. Because of that, I also tend to gravitate towards raw exploration, and I loved the fact that the original rewarded players for doing so. So for GW2, I'm both super excited and slightly disappointed. I'm excited that the positional gameplay will allow my explorer side to gain advantages in PvE combat, but also disappointed that GvG will probably be limited to 5 players without secondarys thus greatly reducing the complexity of builds. But then again, I also look forward to trying to figure out each an every one of the cross-profession combos in order to find the most effective ones. So too will crafting draw me in. I'm also a stickler for lore and speculation so the early part of the game where no one knows what the main story arc will be, will be super fun for me. |

I'm a carebear PvP-er. I'm in it mostly for the Mists. I just love the feel of the whole realm (aka server) uniting for a common cause and everybody you meet being your buddy (except those dastardly reds that need to be exterminated with extreme prejudice). No really, realm pride and all but love your enemy and congratulate him on a great and exciting fight he (or she) gave you. I'm not really into competetive PvP and stuff, seeing myself more of a general of a ragtag army. I love the strategy in games and there's nothing more rewarding for me than seeing my PUG motley crew grow up into a well disciplined fighting force which is having fun even when we wipe due to a botched ambush or siege. I love coordinating my stuff with others all over the map and seeing the "bigger picture" all the time. It's nice loosing yourself in a crowd too ocassionally but I like being led by a living human being rather than some scripted rail. I predict I'll be playing say 20% competetive PvP for laughs and another 20% PvE for breaks and guild fun but most of the time I'll be in the Mists following the "situation" and trying to make the Difference for the Glory of the Realm. As for classes... Healer/support or ranged spike damage. Again, I love to be able to influence the outcome of large fights with precise application of my abilities. You kill, or just overload with dps, their healer there in the last line and their whole structure breaks. Kill counts and damage/heal meters do not interest me at all. It's all about teamplay and drama (in a positive, like you never know what's gonna happen sense) for me. |

PvE player with online guild mates from the whole world , (playing again in a GW1 guild) PvP player with oldtime real life friends (last game I PvP in a mmo with them, was in WAR , ) i just hope GW2 will be the game for both groups , and everyone else. Also alot of time spend playing alts, often leveling them in solo play! |

I love Guild Wars. I love everything about it. And I love my Mesmer. We did lot's of stuff together. And we had a great time, from Ascalon City to Realm of Torment and all through the Eye of the North. Unfortunately, we don't visit those places much anymore. We log in to play some small scale PvP and chat with guildies until Guild Wars 2 comes. (give beta please!) Ok, ok... enough with the crazy "we" talk. :) I played WoW for the first year at launch. I used to raid almost every night and I can't really see myself setting foot in those 40 man dungeons ever again. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Warhammer's Public Quests a lot so I see myself enjoying Dynamic Events as well. But the thing I miss from WoW the most was one particular battleground called Arathi Basin. The most fun PvP moments I had in WoW are bound to that place (hello purged-feather fall-lumber mill-jumping mages). It is the only place where you can get zerg(15v15) / skirmish (3v3) / solo PVP experience. I think it would suit my current gameplay style perfectly. I hope Guild Wars 2 has something similar. I would certainly spend most of my time there (after I am done with the main story - I am big RPG fan so I enjoy playing through a good story). www.gamersbook.com - Community for Gamers. |
