It is no where near a game breaker or anything for me at all, but I was curious if anyone caught wind of mounts being in the game or not. I was always a fan of a cool looking mount.
Unless I am mistaken I do not believe GW1 had mounts right? |

I don't remember if it was an oficial statement but... no mounts, at all. If it wasn't an oficial statement, then they weren't announced yet, and chances we will be seeing this feature in launch are close to none. There's really no purpose for mounts though (besides the fashion), GW2 will have insta travel all across the map. I guess ANET didn't want to make it like WoW where mounts scales in size (imagine asuran vs. norn horse, lol) because it's too unrealistic. Also, imagine a charr riding a lion... wtf? But they could easily avoid these problems by making racial mounts, and it would make sense i guess. It is not a game killer but i've always LOVED mounts :( Hope somewhere in the future ANET implements it. Playing: Starcraft II. |

Yeah, i think it was officialy confirmed somewhere that there would be no mounts, unfortunately. Not that it's overly important, but they do look really cool most of the time. SteamID: Sertii Help spread PC gaming dominance, sign up on Steam! |

Like most people have said...I don't think there will be mounts, all though no confirmation that I'm aware of. Honestly though, I think I'd prefer if they stick with no mounts. I always loved mounts in other mmo's, but I think GW2 is one mmo that I'd rather have none. Would God bless a murder of the innocents? Would God bless a war based on pride? Would God bless a money-hungry government? Noooo! |

No mounts if I remember things correctly... One of those tiny little things that make no difference in PvE but do add an extra dimension to world PvP... That along with body blocking. Sigh, I loved the sight of those endless streams of mounted crazies in WAR RvR lakes... Since there isn't a lot of info on PvP so far, meaning it's still "work in progress" I do hope they renege on some of their blanket statements eventually... "no collision detection" and "no duelling" particularly grate my over-sensible nerves. Mounts would be cool - giving a nice differential between "combat" and "travel" speeds in the Mists but hey, you can't have everything. |

We can't really know yet. A good hint would be in judging how big the game world will be and how open it will be. Knowing both would help, but even then we wouldn't have any hard confirmation. We do know that there'll be "fast traveling" (traveling from one waypoint to another instantly), but we also know that there will be fees attached. So from that info you could really take it seperate ways. I'm doubtful that we'll get mounts on a personal opinion / guess. For one, while it hasn't been confirmed, this game will most likely have a much shorter level cap than most MMOs, as was the case with the original guild wars, despite the massive level increase. The original guild wars was very dependant on characters being at the right level of experience as they went along the campaign, and this was mostly solved by fighting mobs on your way from one outpost to the next destination and/or doing a side-mission on your way there. However, thanks to the shorter level cap, that meant there was far less time spent grinding levels in Guild Wars than in any other MMO. With an introduction of mounts, that could encourage a playstyle (one of ignoring the few amount of mobs necessary) that could tamper with their leveling and mission system, that is, if they keep one that is semi-similar to how it worked in the original. With their stated level system, I'm guessing that they'd be essentially following the same path as with the original guild wars, but this way, are able to extend the gameplay without gameplay becoming stale by keeping the time from level to level short and consistent. With mounts from outpost to outpost, you'd be missing those necessary experience boosts necessary to continue the main campaign properly. Second, I'm doubtful the world will be that much more massive than the original. More open ended in terms of much less instancing? I believe so. But as big as, say, the space of World of Warcraft (which, even that isn't too extreme)? Highly doubtful. With both fast traveling from anywhere (albeit with a fee, but we don't know yet how much of an encumbrance this fee is) and a world with waypoints that will most likely be numerous and only slightly farther than in the original guild wars, it doesn't seem to make sense to introduce mounts. Speed boosts through abilities and "speedrunners", however? Very likely.

im not sure if i should be Happy or Sad if there isn't a mount, i mean, sure, there will be Asura Gate and all that, but what if people want to explore? by running? that will kill my intention to explore if i had to run across the gigantic map by foot So What Now? |

I have to say, my personal impressions of mounts, is similar to healers, I'm glad to see them go. The healer, because it worked in it's own trinity structure with tanks and aggro, but taking it on, and seeing all that health regen was no fun for me. Now everyone helps heal and the emphasis is on avoiding damage not recharging health. Now with mounts, my reasoning is similar, if you have a much better system in place such as using the map to hop around as seen in the vids (much more effective), then mounts are not needed. Besides if you are actually in game, it should work that you are taking a care and being conscious about the environment you are in, not blazing through it on a mount. That would be doubly true if the environment is detailed and full of content (dynamic events) and a map that is interesting topography, vegetation or buildings etc. That's how I see it, in a very subjective way, so I think the game experience will be better without mounts. The WvW question, about mounts, well maybe portals or key movement centres would be very strategic control points on a map, I think is much more full of possibilities so again a more effective solution to mounts, imo, plus mounts without combat is a bit of a half-solution I feel. Foot movements for everyone is better for routiing an an army too, imo, so a defensible positioin of advancement would be a better option in case of this could add more gameplay, I'd speculate. But yeah, some collision detection would be nice. I have these horrible visions of assassin-type characters dodge-rolling through me and stabbing me in the back. |

I really doubt they will be in from launch but maybe with an expansion. But as other have stated, the need for them in GW2 is not that huge (even if the insta travels isn't as good as you seems to think, it costs a little and takes you to a waypoint, not exactly where you want to go). |

I wouldn't mind getting mounts in GW2. But it isn't game breaking if they don't happen by any means. |

Considering the instant travel feature using the map I don't see the point of adding mounts actually... It's just one step from the sublime to the ridiculous. |

Originally posted by Douhk Well i am not sure where it was said , one of the early interviews/blogs this spring i think , might be wrong! But i am very sure that arenanet stated that the world will be much larger than the original. Anyone remember where that was said. on topic. Doesn't the easy use of map travel make mounts for travel obsolete. I quess if we see mounts someday , that will come with a twist or 2, maybe even be part of combat ! but just for travel forget it ! |

If it came to a vote, i'd say no to mounts, specially not with fast travel, they're just a crutch to make the world needlessly stretched out.
Speed increasing skills would be cool, since you could switch to a speed weapon set for travel -or- A warrior banner that increased speed would be a nice taxi service =p |

I agree... if we could vote i would vote no. Unless we can fight on our mounts, with special skills and the like! ....But i thought i saw a trailer video where an asura jumped out one of those robot seige weapons kind of thing...? you might be able to ride those. It's kinda cruel to kill the innocent monsters standing in the fields picking daisies. -GW2- |

Most likely there will never be mounts. It's simply not necessary for all the reasons already mentioned. RIFGAMERS.COM - Multi-Platform Gaming Community |
