I wish devs would remember how to make great games, then make those games massively multiplayer.

When i first got into mmos, i loved playing video games. And when those games started being playable over the internet they became so much better, AND replayable forever.

But with so much money to be made, everyone seems to forget to make a good game, and just tries to get a subscription based business going as fast as possible to make themselves rich, which doesn't work. I guess it IS possible, but with the way internet society works i'm guessing you can only have one of those at a time. If the majority chooses it, it will become a hub for the masses to flock towards.

But, even what i consider the king of  mmos, the only hugely succcessful mmo game that has consistantly kept massive amounts of players since launch, would probably be unanimously considered complete garbage if it were a stand-alone game without the online group and competitive aspects. Whether you love it, hate it or think it's "good enough because we are mmo crack fiends, who need our fix and will take what we can get", as it is now.

I used to dream of amazing action rpg games with massive freeroaming multiplayer worlds when i played the console games of my youth, but that dream faded somewhere between phantasy star online, world of warcraft, vanguard and age of conan.

Since then, i've just been looking for any good game to play and taking whatever i find. I realised that while signing up for a beta and being asked what my 5 favorite games were, in reverse order starting from now and going back in time. It was really hard for me to start the list, lol.

Unlike RPGs, First Person Shooters have continued to advance along a steady path and have slowly increased thier multi-playerability. Which is probably why games like MW2 do so well even with rampant cheating and harsh learning curves. At least the game is fun, online or off. Alot of COD fans even hated the game for things they feels the devs did wrong this time around, but they got enough right to be one of the best sellers of all time, or something like that.

Once games like MAG and others push those multiplayer numbers past the current limits and reach "massive" levels, maybe we will start seeing stuff like Morrowind Online possible too. Imagine a massively multiplayer Cryengine5 RPG, or Call of Duty: World War 3.... team USA vs team S.Korea for the Gold Cup!

Anyways, i hope TERA is going to be good.  It looks good in the videos i've seen so far, but who knows. I can't wait to try it for myself.

I totally agree with this video, nice find.  This is where the real gaming is at, down with grindy point and click games!  Seriously, old stuff like Oblivion was better than that, give us our hack and slash and storyline games back!
