Me and my brother are confused which one to avail when Guild Wars 2 or FF14 online is released. First of all Guild Wars 2 is only B2P and no subscription while FF14 is you have buy the installer and have to pay monthly. But regardless the payment, I am a huge fan of FF series so basically have an idea on what is coming when it comes to graphics and storyline. I am curious about Guild Wars because they have a lots of improvements in their system compared to other typical MMOs. I'm interested to play GW2 becuase they have change or resolve some of the issues that covers the level grinding, party or solo advancement, pvp, and your own story mode. However I don't want play a serious game anymore like WoW, what I'm after is having fun. FF14 I think has the fun factor on what I'm looking for but i still don't know about its in game system like i know in GW2. In short what are the trade off if i choose GW2 or FF14. Any advice or opinions that will make me decide on what to choose? Thank you in advance! |

While I prefer FFXIV over GW2, and most likely won't even try the latter unless pressured into it by people I know in RL, but I recommed GW2 to you. FF is going to be niche, and in it's own way, frustrating. It's something I expect from it, and kind of love at the same time. GW2 is more for the unwashed masses, and will probably have a lot more going for it if you're not the type to have dived into FFXI all bright-eyed and been able to stick with it. By all means try both, but GW2 may last you longer. Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |

Originally posted by khirmell GW2 will have PVP and faster combat with faster payoff. FFXIV will have slow PVE, with a slow payoff. If I had to pick, it would be GW2 Like ^ stated, FFXIV will be niche to the hardcore PVE crowd.

Originally posted by khirmell If pricing is a big issue - I'd say go with GW2. Otherwise I would suggest getting both and just taking breaks form FFXIV to play GW2 when you feel like it. It really sounds like you are going to play FFXIV anyway - but I'd recommend doing more research on GW2, there's plenty of info out there. I don't know exactly what you mean by a "serious" game, but the main goal of GW2's devs is to rework all the mechanics they think put a damper on fun. The only thing I can really tell you is that if you are the type of player that refuses to try pvp, you will not be able to participate in several interesting features of GW2, where you don't need to like pvp for FFXIV. There will still be a lot of fun things to do in PvE but it depends on your preferences. |

Of those 2 ... GW2 sounds to be the most interesting by far, BUT there is always a but isnt there :-) FFXIV coming out in a little over 1 month, and GW2 sometime in 2011??? I say go play FFXIV till GW2 gets released then move to GW2. If you havent already I suggest you also have a look at the following ... lots of nice games in 2011 |

Two completely different sides to the MMO genres, and to be honest, they're going to appeal to almost completely separate audiences just from the pace of the gameplay alone. I personally am looking forward to both titles because I enjoyed MMOs when there was downtime, slower combat, exploring, and whathave you. I enjoyed FFXI as an MMO very much, so naturally I'm very, very interested in FFXIV. I've played Guild Wars off and on and honestly, I'm not quite sure what to expect. There's hardly any leaked videos, hardly any ingame footage other than from their trailers and footage. We don't even know what classes Guild Wars 2 is going to boast. All we've done is got the same amount of information that is typically on the back of the game box. We know very, very generalized information on Guild Wars 2 and it's systems, but nowhere near the amount of knowledge of the game as FFXIV. I plan on playing both and letting each one work it's magic on getting me to stay subscribed. |

I don't understand why would you not just play both? It's not like you have to pay 2 subscription fees. That's what I did years ago when GW came out. FFXI didn't go anywhere when I played for GW, cleared it, got bored and went back to XI. I think I'll do the same this time, and don't see a problem with it now either. GW2 will probably last longer than GW1, but I don't expect it to be a long-term investment like XIV will be. I'll probably play it for a month or two, then go back to XIV. No grind, no longevity, but probably more fun during those few months at least gameplay wise.

I could try both but since i have to work for "THE MAN" like everyone else. So got a little time to play for both games. But you guys mentioned that FF14 is going to be released earlier than GW2 then i will have enough time to see it how it turns out. Thanks a bunch guys! |
