They know who plays WoW by using your Facebook details and seeing what you like and take your email from there. We all know that if you "like" something on facebook, or even put something in your "interests" it automatically links your account to another website in which they can access your information. -and I could care less if I did not spell everything correctly nor if I was grammatically sound, you people who harp on those things really need lives, more so than us who play video games. I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors. |

I can beat that. I got one saying my European Blizzard account was hacked. I live in the States and don't even HAVE a Euro account :P I also got a "Your Account's Been Compromised" email on an email that is not even linked to an account :D My favorite thought had the subject line "[spam] [scam] Account Compromise". Definitely my favorite. I have nothing that adds those tags by the way :P They were part of the subject line itself.
Sebali, someone in Blizz might be selling them off, a different site may have sold it off, there's a billion different ways. By which I mean like 5 :P ____________________________ "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but I know World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

Am I the only one getting the faction change ones? It is actually a good one. All it says is that the faction change is in progress, how long it will take, that my character will not be playable in the meantime and that . . . if it was in error or there is something wrong please click here etc.
I also get the. . your battle.net account has had a request to change the e-mail associated with it. . please click here blah blah.
They all end up in my junk mail folder though.

Originally posted by Aethaeryn Most of the ones I get are the your email changed, password changed, your a hacker, or opt in for Cata Beta. Had one that made me really wonder as it hit right about the time that I was accessing my account to change the password on it. It was in my spam folder, and looked semi legit but erred on the side of caution and nuked it anyways. Even if it was legit I knew what was going on so decided to ignore it anyways. |

Originally posted by Aethaeryn I get them too. And a lot of other ones for that matter. I wonder where they got my mail, I never had a Wow account? Maybe from some kind of competition or beta thing here... This is the only forum that have something with MMOs where I hang, I don't think they got it directly here but indirectly. |

Originally posted by Loke666 They use E-mail phishing to feed their account-phishing. First, they might buy/get a starter database of emails from somewhere (porn sites, free goodies sites, low-level-websites, etc) Then they might get bots scanning social networks. profiles, forums for anyone posting their emails there. They might have some rudimentary script to decypher hidden emails such as this: my_email AT hotmail DOT com And finally they would go with scanning usernames on various forums, websites then add @yahoo.com, @gmail.com etc... I highly advise everyone to use recyclable emails. I use spamgourmet.com, its bit complex for a beginner, but is fairly powerfull and gets rid of spam effectively.
